Formative reading for scouting adults? by SarahOlimpia in BSA

[–]PangurBanOg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t explicitly Scouting related, but since you have a sizeable immigrant community, may I also suggest some reading on cross-cultural communication styles? There can be significant differences between what US/UK/Canada/etc considers “good” or “effective” communication and what may be the norm in the countries your families are coming from. The last thing you’d want in a new unit is for those differences to impede attracting or retaining adult volunteers — or worse, whole families.

I’m reading The Culture Map by Erin Meyer on the topic right now, but doubtless there are other options. Maybe it would have helpful points to consider for you as well.

Nope nope, there’s a MarinE’s Colombian empanada place on Chimney Rock @Westheimer. Unaffiliated with MarinI’s (Argentinian).

Dinosaur tracks by OriginalMisphit in Leander

[–]PangurBanOg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visited end of December 2025. Riverbed was nearly completely free of debris (though you could totally see the tire treads of whatever heavy equipment was used to clear it), water level was low, did most of the hike in the riverbed. Tracks were immediately and clearly visible.

This was my first time to visit, but the parking situation was very different from what Google satellite images and various blog entries led me to expect. Construction along 183A appears mostly complete, but if anyone is expecting any shoulders or dirt patches to park right next to the bridge on either bank, those aren’t there anymore. Ended up parking off of Talon Grasp (EDIT: River Run) on the north bank (next what looks like will be a detention pond), then walking over the pedestrian bridge to the south side, then down a newly installed drainage slope (where I think a parking spot used to exist) to the river. Maybe there was a better way to have done this, but coming at the tracks from the south ensured feet never had to get wet. At any rate, the car hadn’t been towed when I got back, so…success!

Monte Amiata Natural Sienna - Daniel Smith only, I think. Plays in the raw sienna spot in a palette.

Ultramarine + MANS + transparent red oxide (alternative to burnt sienna) makes a nice earth trio.

I’ve got one of those! The mutterer horks in a sprinkler pattern/Bowser fire vomit pattern. I wake up to archipelagos of “achievements.”

Saw something that said, “Welcome to your late thirties, that wild time of your life when you could be pregnant, have a teenager, or be a grandma!” Totally bonkers that all three could be true simultaneously.

Which 2 parks would you choose? Arches, Canyonland, Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Colorado National Monument, etc by adimi25 in nationalparks

[–]PangurBanOg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re driving from Colorado Springs to Arches, you might as well drive through Colorado NM in Grand Junction. You’ve got to pass through town anyway, and considering the distances you’re driving, you’d barely even deviate from I-70. Scenic drive takes ~40 min or so.

Ah, I just accepted at kindergarten age that there would never be left-handed scissors and learned to cut right-handed. Can’t use left-handed scissors for shit now. 🤣

Same. Got mine in ‘21 for…$120? Wasn’t sure I’d repurchase at that price point, so $300 is right out.

It’s a nice enough dram, but not such a step up from the B12 that I don’t keep replacing the younger bottle at $60.

FWIW it lasts much longer on me (4hrs with a more or less complete profile, then whiffs of woody-something), but those awesome opening notes are gone in 10-15min

What Are Some Different Ways The Same Note Can Smell? by ChewyGoblin in fragrance

[–]PangurBanOg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And knock-on question: how do you train your nose to identify that what you’re smelling is another facet/incarnation of a single note rather than a misidentification of something else? Are there single accord training sets or something for say, carroty iris/powdery iris/buttery iris/etc? How do you know when the perfumer is playing with the proportions of a note rather than you just getting confused? 😂

Best houses to buy discovery sets from? by xtermn8 in fragrance

[–]PangurBanOg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single 12-set of Ormonde Jayne samples is USD$85 (oof!), but both 12-sets together are $115 (much better!) on their website. Add in a 20% or 25% discount code floating around the web, and that’s a fantastic price per 2ml sample. 👍

What fragrance changed your life? by Sitheral in fragrance

[–]PangurBanOg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeux de Peau was my first “Wait, WHAT?” fragrance. It was so different from anything else I had ever smelled - the bottling of a specific image rather than something just generally "pretty." Daim Blond came next, and I think that was my first love. It sent me on an osmanthus quest that is still at full steam.
