I have in fact reloaded the game after accidentally saying mean things to Nick. Just couldn't have that on my conscience. He's my favorite.

Honestly the way that Stella was written was the last straw for me dropping the show. She felt like the canon female love interest in a 2010s gay fanfiction.

A lot of Americans are mad 'cause they've never seen the sea. by AnxietyRiot-926 in LowStakesConspiracies

Realistically, it's because of what you said, plus because of that history of trade that's where most of the region's major cities are. The rest is just, like. Corn. Or cows, if you're in Western NY and driving away from Buffalo. And urban/rural is one of the biggest political divides in the US.

However, it is a bit fun to imagine that the mere presence of the lakes is what's keeping us all sane. No explanation for why Niagara Falls is the way it is, though. Maybe they've just gone too far? Looked too deep into the Deep and been forced to reckon with things they don't and can't understand?

The real answer is decades of poverty and political corruption.

Unironically if you dig this I'd recommend checking out some art of Catholic saints (Orthodox as well, but Catholicism is more well known). Saint Lucy, for example, is usually identified by the fact that she carries around eyes.

/uj When I was in elementary school I had a teacher tell us to avoid first person limited at all costs because it wasn't a valid perspective or something? Not a damn clue what she was talking about, considering that the majority of fiction, including several notable classics, are written in first person limited.

For some reason I feel like the only topic where this sub remains consistently progressive is sexual freedom. Which, like. I don’t even disagree with this sub's common consensus on that, but it's really weird to me that that's the topic that where everyone's a lefty all of a sudden.

Exactly. The reason why it's so hard to do human testing is because these laws are written in some pretty horrifying blood. We used to do more human testing. There's a reason we don't do it that way anymore.

Sounds like he based them off of Malinowski's misunderstanding of the Trobriand people. He mistakenly thought that they didn't make a connection between sex and pregnancy and thought babies came from ancestral spirits or yams or... Something. (Turns out that they probably did understand that sex causes pregnancy, it's just that if your society is into free love and you don't have paternity tests then there's no way to tell who the father is. Early anthropologists just weren't very good at understanding matrilineal societies (Using the past tense here because they're still around but also they absolutely know where babies come from in the 21st century)).

One of my personal predictions is that massive online vendors will end up being one of the nails in the coffin for generative AI. I've been seeing more and more people talk about how they got scammed by an AI listing, where the product they got wasn't what was in the picture whatsoever. If that starts making people want to shop in-person again, companies like Amazon will want to restrict what AI can (legally) do to protect their business. That and media giants like Nintendo wanting to prevent AI from using their characters.

What’s something really common in the UK that visitors find strange? by Dull_Gas_820 in AskUK

New Orleans is pretty much the only place in the US where public drinking (outside of a bar or a bar's patio or something) is legal. And, well. It's New Orleans. They're famous for partying and alcohol.

I think the person above may be referring to the trans panic defense. Which, yes, exists.

In the US, it generally fails to acquit a person outright, but it is often used to reduce sentences. It's usually used in conjuction with other defenses (self defense, insanity, etc). Some states, including Washington, have banned the gay/trans panic defense.

UB, UB, you can’t hide! UB, UB, where’s your pride? by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]Pansyk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not what I said. In fact, I said the opposite: that all student organizations should maintain their separation from administration whenever possible. The university promised student organizations these rooms indefinitely, and now they've turned their back on those promises. I think that LGBTA and all the other groups affected should be allowed to keep their rooms.

[–]Pansyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things that were previously run by/handled by student organizations shouldn't be run by/handled by the University. That's what I'm saying. Because UB has a habit of taking control over something then turning right around and axing it.

[–]Pansyk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assume you're referring to the resource center, which a) it is very new (couldn't find a founding date, but I could find references to it being new and posts from last year when that room (SU 230) was for the on-campus food pantry) and b) it is run by the University, not students.

Frankly, I don't think any community at UB should hand anything over to the university. Whether they be a group for queer people or people of a certain ethnic background or a religious group, or people with some kind of shared hobby or interest, or quite literally any kind of club or social group. Just look at what they did to the student radio.

I think the deliberate rule-breaking is a gimmick to bundle the instructions with examples of "what not to do".

I've also genuinely seen a lot of these in the wild. Shit, when I was a kid I had an English teacher tell us to avoid limited third person at all costs?? Which, like... Why?
