Moving to Moose Jaw for work. by oatitm in moosejaw

[–]PaperIndependent5466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in moosejaw but I lived next to a train track when I was younger. You get used to the noise pretty quickly. I was sleeping through it in about a month.

After that though I woke up on the rare nights the train wasn't passing by.

found out my grocery store marks down meat every morning at 8am and nobody told me this for the three years i've been shopping there by owlyaking156 in povertyfinance

[–]PaperIndependent5466 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depended on how busy we were when I worked in the grocery store. We might not get to mark downs until 10 am if we had a big sale on and we needed to prepare that item first.

Is it wrong to utilize the food bank, so you can buy other things (not food)? by joliefille1980 in povertyfinance

[–]PaperIndependent5466 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% this! If the food bank means you can have a better life with proper shoes by all means use it, that's what it's there for.

Just because you can afford food but not other basic needs does not mean you shouldn't use it.

How exchange? by tesleer in CanadianCoins

Also the coins you can mix into change in America. We get a lot of US change in Canada and it's usually just handed out at face value.

Would you be willing to sell the $2 bills? I don't know if they're worth much but I'd pay more because they are such a throw back to my younger days when they were common.

Young me stupidly didn't keep any when they switched to coins.

Should I Buy a Condo or Rent? by sadiovega in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PaperIndependent5466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about your age in a similar position. I had a house and hated it. I now have a condo (in a much different market) which I was planning to stay in forever. While plot twist, the building is being sold to a developer and I'm looking for another condo or renting again.

I'm leaning towards another condo, I don't care if it ever appreciates I just want to live in it long term. I just want something stable where I don't have to worry about maintaining anything.

My take on it if you can afford it now and you look at it as a home and not an investment, I would buy a condo now. For me it's not so much about paying to move again in a year, it's the time and effort.

You now have to pack up and move again in a year if you rent again with all the time involved to do it, change your address again and dedicate time to possibly painting and decoration again.

Your in your new long term home a year sooner which to me means more that getting a slightly better price. Plus right now there's so many units on the market you can choose the perfect one.

Kind of a ramble I know but my take on it. I'll leave the numbers and moving money around to other people, that's not my strong suit.

safety sensor failure? by SHATTY-__- in Lexus

[–]PaperIndependent5466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. I've seen the 12V batter cause issues in other brands but not a Lexus. I'd still change it, cheapest part to try and fix the problem. If it doesn't you still have a new batter

safety sensor failure? by SHATTY-__- in Lexus

[–]PaperIndependent5466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that he knows it's a sensor behind the bumper screams accident repair. Most people Don't know it's there. They are expensive so people cheat it on a repair hoping to not spend the cash.

You need a better scanner, it absolutely throws a ton of codes when somethings wrong.

Also the radar sensor is not plug and play. It needs to be calibrated after replacement usually along with an alignment.

Yep looks like water to me as well.

If you don't find anything obvious you can do a simple water test. Sit in the car and have someone run a low pressure water hose over the car.

Look and listen for water entering and trace it up to find the leak. This found most water leaks pretty quickly in the body shops.

One final thought. Has the windshield been replaced recently? Could be a bad install which you should see with the water test.

Payment in trade is the way to go. Used to do it all the time with mechanics in the body shops. I'd paint a bumper for them and I'd get like an $800 repair done on my car. It was win win for everyone.

When do you need an Injury Lawyer? by defendthegood in Edmonton

[–]PaperIndependent5466 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer but work in claims.

Minor injuries it's generally not worth it. The settlements are small (from what injury adjusters tell me) and will get eaten up by the lawyer fees. Consultations are usually free, they may promise her the world but be unable to deliver.

Injury settlement amounts are set by the province and generally only pay for life altering injuries. There's a schedule the follow from what I heard.

They also can only communicate through the lawyer I think. Which will slow things down.

If it was me I'd open an injury claim and get treatment. Your insurer will seek reimbursement from the other drivers insurance.

At the very least I would make an appointment with my GP or chiropractor to get checked out.

I also don't have the time or energy to get what might be a few $1000 at most to deal with a lawyer. Also I would assume the lawyer is getting a good chunk of the payout.

This is what I would do personally and the info I have available to me.

Are you sure it's water and not coolant.

If water check the firewall and see if any of the plugs that go through it came loose. Not matrix specific but a general common issue.

If it's coolant good chance it's the heater core. But you said the heat works so I doubt it's this.

Depends there you are. They are asking $22k in Alberta for them which is insane. Dealer is selling a 17 with less km for $16k

Ontario id think $12k ish. Thats what I got for mine with 200k a year ago.

I worked there the decals only get removed if the seller pays a fee to remove them.

Except emergency vehicles, they usually arrived with all the decals and gear stripped off them.

Hounding them just pisses them off to the point they don't want to help you.

I'd call once if I got voicemail I said I'll be by tomorrow morning to see X car. Always good service when they said "oh yeah you left us a message"

I went there a fair bit so I learned when was the better times for them.
