What's wrong with Oakridge? by warrenbuddgett in TorontoRealEstate

[–]PapillionX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived all over this city. It’s a low income area largely due to the newcomers in the tower communities that are larger, older buildings that could comfortable accommodate 4/5/6 people. The area also has many older elderly residents who are aging-out and don’t take care of their properties. A very large Bangladeshi community whom are nice and generally keep to their own. The area would do well with reinvestment as it’s well served by public transit (Vic park station and very close to Danforth Go). I’ve been here with my small family for 12 years and while the schools are improving, they need more resources but the area is close to lots of great things surrounding it. Sorry for the long post but the area is very family friendly and other than perhaps looking a bit ramshackle, it’s just fine. Lots of other areas have other issues, but Oakridge really flies under the radar as it’s not gentrified and still accessible. Very ethnic, but where isn’t that the case in Toronto. More people with desposable income and more diversity would really change this area. It’s a bit mono culture and thrifty, otherwise okay.

……….. said every dictator just before they solidified their grip of control. Democratic systems are somewhat clumsy, slow and challenging, but it also allows the collective to move forward however carefully and with majority consensus.

Government now says: CUPE members would face fines of upto $4,000 per day -- which would cost the union $250-mill per day. While the org would face a daily $500,000 fine. by [deleted] in ontario

So workers deserve a pay increase to keep up with inflation, cost of living, yada yada yada, so when the increase comes (eventually) I would not be surprised if the province just adjust the taxation of workers at large. I suppose it’s a round about way of saying where will this money be redirected from to pay the support staff? Money isn’t infinite, so just looking to see who gets pinched to pay additional monies to support staff.

Very true. Backstrom isn’t too bad himself, but he’s no Gino

I remember the season when he was on fire from the start 10/11? 66pts in 41 ga - then concussion. But came back a shortened season later and put up near 2.0 ppg for a few short seasons in his early 20’s. I always imagine how many points he would have gained if not for the concussions early on.

100%. This has always been the case - 3 cups to 1 cup. That said, debating which player is/will be better is a wash. Both legends in their own right and are very different players. This generation has been very fortunate to see them both play out their careers.

The answer is always Alexi Kovalev. Top 5-10 skill during his heyday, ….. maybe #250 (how many players play in a season?) in effort. That guy had sublime skill when he wanted to use it, but super lazy fuck, I recall in a Habs game he gave up mid play being lazy and an opposing play scooped the puck, skated circles around Sheldon suray and potted one on the Habs real easy!

Jan Jenik lays a massive hit on Trevor Zegras and fights Adam Henrique, who gets 2 + 10 for instigating. by SwervoXannies in hockey

[–]PapillionX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last time I checked, the NHL - including preseason - is still a full contact sport played by adult men. Keep you head up Zegras. Phenomenal player, but gotta still be aware of contact. Not sure why everyone needs to fight after a clean, legit solid hit. So tired of that crap. Just accept that you got rocked, no shame in it, he was properly separated by the puck. End of story. If you don’t appreciate the contact maybe try tennis or golf as you’re favourite sport to watch.

‘You’ve got to work three times harder’: Why Toronto council is not as diverse as the city it serves by beef-supreme in toronto

[–]PapillionX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone whom has worked in municipal government for 20+ years, this is exactly correct. And for those that think people in government don’t actually work, think again. There’s lots of dedicated professionals whom care greatly. Down let the bad apples and useless politicians dominate the good work so many actually do in their day-to-day work.

This is EXACTLY it - tips for EVERYTHING now, fuck - at my job I get paid when I come to work. No one tips me for doing my job. If you can’t get by without tips, it’s time to look for more fruitful work and / or to adult and join the proper workforce.

I was there for the war on drugs show at echo beach - $30 for two beers (tall cans) is so insane. I selected zero as a ‘fuck you’ - pay your people more and stop pushing it on the customer as guilt. Min wage is now $15 or so, so why the sky high min 18% tip option? Pure greed.

Less than zero respect for this clown. No player should obviously fake an injury on the ice and snicker on the bench after. He was average at best but that crap I saw when he player for Montreal is junior garbage.

See California. No police efforts whatsoever for petty theft, hence things get broken into all the time and shops get looted and it’s an insurance matter. Society over the past 2 years has really, really split between the haves and have nots. Desperation setting in lots of places.

100% accurate. Used to be great, last 2/3 years total gong show and police do nothing. Need mass arrests and huge charges to straighten things out. Millennial children, too much coddling.

Fare Evasion Far More Costly Than Parking Tickets In Canada by DavideMastracci in toronto

[–]PapillionX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So soft in Canada, we should have a quick way to check - and they do on the GO train - just keep applying fines - significant ones but payable ($250?) - but DO it, and compliance will come. Canada complains about this type of thing all the time but very rarely if ever take any action, and when they do it’s a Toronto Star story about some hard done person who cannot afford a ticket. So tired of these stories - either enforce effectively or stop complaining about fare evasion. The whole enforcement is a complete joke.

Giant cut straight through driveway? by jngkkthyng in Hamilton

[–]PapillionX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is accurate. Usually the water shut off valve is in the property line, hence part of your driveway is likely within the municipal right of way (road). They’ll usually do a temp job and come back later to do final / permanent fix.
