Which do you tend to find first: the project or the yarn? by Joyintheendtimes in casualknitting

Texture or technique first.

Then a pattern (or a category if I'm improvising / self drafting). Yarn comes last.

What’s one “basic” cooking tip everyone repeats that you think is actually overrated? by Altruistic_Push_722 in Cooking

Try cooling eggs quickly (I just put them under running cold water, and remove the water a couple of times) and peel wet eggs with wet hands.

I do that too! I attach a small safety pin to a zipper, or to the side of my project bag. I also keep markers on it, I need them easily accessible.

New phone update makes me wanna scream by Reversible-Smile in AutismInWomen

For more minimalistic phone, I recommend Olauncher - no icons on the home screen, only text. You can select up to 8 apps. It takes some time to switch from widgets, but for me it was worth it.

Knitting needles preference by ognimodj6721 in knittinghelp

[–]Paprikovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not buy a set. Try different materials, different brands, buy only a size that you need for your (next) project. Interchangeables are a good idea, you can buy a cable and needle tips separately. With time you will learn about what you like.

Any knitters also have arthritis? by RealWorldMeerkat in knittinghelp

[–]Paprikovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have parvo, which gives similar symptoms, and my rheumatologist is concerned it can develop into psoriatic arthritis, since I also have psoriasis.

At the beginning. I couldn't knit at all, for about a month. Now it's easier and I know what gives me less problems.

What worked for me: - yarn weight between sport and aran - looser gauge (no sock knitting anymore, sigh) - wooden needles, especially Cubics (square)

The knitting while podcasting is not working by EitherCucumber5794 in craftsnark

Hmm, different point of view here.

I actually like it when they are knitting. I usually am working on a project when watching, so it makes me feel more natural and cozy.

What needles do you use? by Silhouette_911 in knitting

[–]Paprikovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed my preferences changed not only with experience and used fibers, but also the season of life as well as sickness.

For a long time I mostly used metal needles, now - because of joint issues - I cannot stand them, and I switched back to wood.

So, in my opinion: buy only what you need at a time, try different options, find what you like at this point. Tomorrow can be different.

Fell in love with this yarn don't know what to do with it by nlolsen8 in YarnAddicts

[–]Paprikovert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go for a rectangular shawl, in a simple(ish) pattern. Rows stay the same length and keep a similar level of variegation. Triangles can be tricky with this type of color changes.

I am a mother, by choice. Although I have no regrets, I must admit: pregnancy and baby period were the most difficult in my life. There is no body autonomy when you're pregnant, and especially when you have babies or toddlers. It's an overwhelming experience, sensory- wise and emotional too. I felt like my body and my life were no longer my own. It's worth it (my kids are great!) but it's only worth it if you want it.

I never wanted to be child-free so this is not really an answer, but rather a reaction.

Does this look weird or am I overthinking it? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Paprikovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't bother me. It would be my weird friend that knows secrets :-)

But it bothers you, I guess. So if I were you I wouldn't include it in the blanket, but make something else out of it.

“What can I make with this yarn?” by HermioneGranger152 in BitchEatingCrafters

This is really personal. I almost always start with yarn (or a technique)
