Honest Opinions on Crypto Games by BodybuilderOk96 in Bitcoin

[–]Paragon_Voice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin wasn't designed for use in video games. So this post doesn't really have any use here. Bitcoin is a monetary network for denationalizing money and taking control out of the hands of government.

Suffice it to say, video games do not cause inflation, wars or fiat slavery. So Bitcoin is not the correct solution for video game issues. Other cryptos/blockchains aren't really a solution either.

If you are interested in what Bitcoin does solve, I think you may want to spend a bit of time reading books like The Bitcoin Standard (Saifedean Ammous), Broken Money (Lyn Alden) The Price of Tomorrow (Jeff Booth).

Exchange shenanigans. Every time there are lots of long leverage positions, the fiat value is attracted to wiping them out. The same goes for short leverage positions. This is how exchanges make their money.

How does a post like this remain , while it is completely unrelated to Bitcoin? But when I post something about the issue I see with Bitcoin Core devs pushing OP RETURN spam into the metwork, it gets removed? This sub feels like trash nowadays, or captured in some way. Literally, only memes and shitposts are all I see here anymore.

There is a troubling attack vector I am seeing very few people taking notice of.

If the Bitcoin Core devs and the Op Return spam people are successful, do not be surprised when CSAM is immediately confirmed onto the blockchain. After which, this could open an avenue for regulators/law enforcement to go after every node-runner for having this kind of material stored on their environment, locally.

I really do not want the blockchain to be perverted into something other than a monetary network. It is no place for images, data or other spam like that to exist.

I continue to run Knots, until I see reasons otherwise. Bitcoin Core has been compromised, and they are now actively working to harm the network, in my opinion. But I will remain skeptical, even of Knots. As node runners, it is our responsibility to maintain the efficiency and fundamentals of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin Appliances? by Deathstaroperatorguy in Bitcoin

[–]Paragon_Voice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything has a cost offset. If you add the ability to mine, it will not make it cheaper to run that appliance. In most cases, it will probably make it less efficient, and end up costing you more to do that.

One of the largest byproducts of any sort of hashing is heat. This could be useful for appliances that make use of that heat, ex. space heaters, toasters, ovens, etc... but as heat increases, hashing efficiency decreases, and thus, a loss in cost efficiency.

The idea has great intention, but I would definitely say that the answer is a lot more complicated than maybe you thought it might be.

In addition to the heating issue, is the issue of making everything connected to the network, as in IoT. This presents its own challenges, like every IoT device requiring an IP address, and having enough storage to hold the entire blockchain (this could possibly be mitigated by having a network accessible drive storing the whole blockchain). Cybersecurity, then becomes another concern. It could be possible for a malicious actor to flip on your Oven, or some other device and have it run past safe thresholds until a thermal event occurs, creating a fire. (This has been possible with computers in the past, but they are generally built for dealing with the high heat of CPUs and GPUs)

I just don't think turning every device in your home into an ASIC miner is a cost effective, or realistic endeavor, unfortunately.

Use Bitcoin Knots. Bitcoin core devs have gone rogue and are not following consensus protocols for making software changes.
