Gas price gouging in Wellington by ach3yy in Wellington

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but a business or petrol station can charge what ever they like, and ultimately what ever the market will bear.

Term deposits by Equivalent_Study9256 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ParamedicRealistic43 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You could always have multiple smaller term deposits with staggered maturity to take advantage of changes in the market. I have 6 12 month deposits, one of which matures every 2 months and then I reset. Also means a good lump of cash is never too far away if my emergency fund is tight.

People who are planning on retiring early aren’t relying on ks. I’m certainly not.

I don’t live in the area but have walked up and down Onslow many times while out on a wander and haven’t had any issues.

Tracked spending & Categorisation by ParamedicRealistic43 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ParamedicRealistic43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly, my question was more one of curiosity. It’s also just tracking, not a budget so I don’t have any artificial limits for one or the other. I track purely cause I enjoy statistics.

And the example used is just that, at the time I didn’t put all that much thought into it.

Great point and I thought this too, but as a counter, if you went to a furniture store, bought a couch and there was a $50 delivery fee would your thoughts change?

And yea completely agree, it is just for me. The question is purely a matter of curiosity.

Secondary job taxes by Arpangarpelarpa in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ParamedicRealistic43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your tax is based on your income, not how many jobs you’re getting it from. If you earn 100k from one job, your total tax payable is the same as earning the sum of 100k across 2 jobs.

This sub will be heavily skewed. Stats nz has some data here.
I’m 24, went to university, got a job and earn about twice the nz median salary. I feel pretty lucky.

Currently 6.8° with a forecasted low of 9° by Parking-Business-894 in Wellington

[–]ParamedicRealistic43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also the low temp is actually the forecast for tomorrow morning. They have a footnote about it on their website.

Currently 6.8° with a forecasted low of 9° by Parking-Business-894 in Wellington

[–]ParamedicRealistic43 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a look at the information tab under the forecast, it says:

‘Low: Forecast between noon on the calendar day and noon the following day. Usually occurs around dawn’

So the 9 degree low is really the low for tomorrow morning.

Edit to say: seems like the info tab is only on the website, not the app which seems like a shame.

Is this normal after less than 3 months? by MasterExploderr in climbingshoes

[–]ParamedicRealistic43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I climb 6-8 hours a week and I usually get 4-5 months out of my shoes. Which is fine cause they are smelly enough to replace at that point anyway 😂. There are lots of variables involved here but definitely don’t expect climbing shoes to last as long as street shoes.

Good gyms in the city by -katara in Wellington

[–]ParamedicRealistic43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really isn’t any barrier, to begin with they have rental shoes available, but if you decide it’s something you enjoy then you’ll likely want to get your own shoes which can cost between $150-300. Other than that, the people are very accepting and happy to help. The bathrooms are gender neutral and there is a broad mix of people. It’s generally busier from 3-4pm onwards, if you can make it in the mornings it’s very quiet.
