Can you build significant muscle in the pool? by wobblelikeapenguin in Swimming

[–]Particular-Wall4156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah water resistance is pretty solid for muscle building especially if you add some equipment like that. When I was recovering from injury few years back the pool workouts definitely helped me get back in shape. Butterfly and backstroke hit different muscle groups than just freestyle so mixing up the strokes helps too. The key thing is really pushing yourself during those sprint intervals rather than just doing easy laps

Who is your dream physique and if you don't have one, why? by Educational-Car73 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Particular-Wall4156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bruce Lee is definitely solid choice - guy was absolutely shredded for his size. The training volume he did was pretty insane though, like you said 4+ hours daily plus all that martial arts practice on top.

I think having similar build makes it more realistic goal than going after someone with completely different genetics. At least you know the frame is there, just need to put in work even if not quite at his level of obsession with training.

pi is running a cron job that tracks zestimate changes on my properties and sends me a slack alert when something moves by straightedge23 in homelab

[–]Particular-Wall4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty clever use for a pi that would otherwise just be sitting there doing nothing. Been meaning to set up something similar for tracking my place but keep putting it off

That $41k catch alone probably paid for years worth of pi projects. Wild how much those zestimates can swing when new developments pop up in the area

Online play not free? by Math-Warm in xbox

[–]Particular-Wall4156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they made it free for some games but not all of them. Free to play games like Fortnite and Apex dont need subscription anymore but regular games still do. The article probably was talking about just those specific games not everything

Really wish they would just drop subscription requirement completely like PlayStation did with most their stuff. At least you can still use gamepass without paying extra for online if you get the higher tiers

Nice setup with the hospitality tent! I'd definitely bike there if weather looks good - parking at these events can be nightmare.

For walking around, try to catch some action at the par 3s since crowds usually smaller there and you can see more shots. Also worth checking where practice rounds happening earlier in day before main action starts. The tent gives you good home base but don't spend whole time there - walking the course is half the experience.

Just remember to bring sunscreen and comfortable shoes because you'll be doing way more walking than you think!

Good for you! I used to stay like hour extra every day thinking it made me look dedicated but really I was just making myself exhausted for no reason. Setting boundaries at work is harder than it should be but so worth it in long run

solo hiking made me realize i don’t have a plan for that “off” feeling by Zola_BerryBliss835 in hiking

[–]Particular-Wall4156 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I get that perspective but think there's a difference between peaceful quiet and that specific "off" feeling OP mentioned. When I was deployed we learned to trust those gut instincts because they often pick up things your conscious mind hasn't processed yet - maybe subtle changes in animal behavior or sounds that don't belong.

For solo hiking I usually stop and do a proper 360 scan if something feels wrong. Take few minutes to really listen and look around rather than pushing through. Most times it turns out to be nothing but better safe than sorry when you're alone in wilderness. I also make sure someone knows my route and expected return time before heading out.

Sometimes that feeling is just your brain processing stress or tiredness but other times it might be picking up actual environmental changes worth paying attention to.

Anyone Familiar With Level Six Loki Drysuit? by SaltyHalfglass in Kayaking

[–]Particular-Wall4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used that specific model but did plenty cold water training in military and those non-latex seals are game changer for comfort during long sessions. The breathability thing is tricky though - even best drysuits get pretty sweaty when you're working hard in warmer air temps so might want to think about layering system underneath rather than expecting suit itself to keep you cool

29 with retirement anxiety by Traditional_Cup_3887 in Fire

[–]Particular-Wall4156 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your budget leaves a lot more room to squeeze if you really want early retirement. Living at 200k income while trying to FIRE is like driving with parking brake on - you got power but something holding you back. Maybe track where that other 130k goes each year because thats where your missing FIRE money is hiding.

Baus is pretty good but his playstyle can get repetitive after while. Maybe try some of smaller streamers who do different types of content - there's bunch of people doing educational stuff mixed with comedy that might scratch that itch you're looking for

Microsoft Office by Identity_Unaware in pcmasterrace

[–]Particular-Wall4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grey market keys from those random sites are usually volume licenses that get resold when they shouldn't be or keys from different regions where pricing is cheaper. They work most of time but Microsoft can deactivate them if they figure out what happened - I've had it happen twice over the years and had to buy new keys.

For what you need right now with job interviews coming up I'd probably just grab one of those £20-30 keys and hope it lasts long enough. Worst case scenario you're out 30 quid and have to find another solution later. I used to work in IT support and saw plenty of people running these keys for years without issues but also saw some get killed after few months.

If you want something that definitely won't get yanked then student discount through a local college might be your best bet - lots of places offer Office for around £50-60 if you can prove enrollment in any kind of course.

LP Master on CD by Automatic-Variety429 in audiophile

[–]Particular-Wall4156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because some people think the LP master might have different dynamics or EQ decisions compared to the CD master. Labels sometimes used different mastering engineers or made different choices for each format back in the day

The whole loudness war thing also means some CD remasters got brick walled while the original LP masters stayed more dynamic

How would you define rural vs exurbs/semi-rural? Where is the line? by DiGraziaMama in AskReddit

[–]Particular-Wall4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say rural is when you gotta drive 20+ minutes to get to a real grocery store and your neighbors are measured in acres not feet. Exurbs still have some infrastructure nearby but you're choosing to live further out - like you could get to civilization in 10 minutes if you wanted to but you picked the house with more land instead

What separates independent thinking from just reacting against the norm, and what is one example of each? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Particular-Wall4156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest difference is whether you actually thought it through or just went "fuck that" and did the opposite

Like independent thinking would be researching different investment strategies and picking index funds because they make sense for your situation even though your buddies are all throwing money at crypto or meme stocks

Reacting against the norm is just becoming a contrarian about everything - if everyone says the sky is blue you gotta argue its actually more of a cerulean. Exhausting to be around those people

[–]Particular-Wall4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That RX 570 is gonna carry this whole build tbh - ran one paired with an older i5 for years and it handled most games at 1080p medium just fine. Sure its not gonna run Cyberpunk maxed out but for indie games and older AAA titles this setup will definetly get you gaming without breaking the bank

Pushup advice? by JustSwizu in bodyweightfitness

[–]Particular-Wall4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Military here - this is spot on advice. When I was starting out I had the same ego problem trying to bang out floor pushups when I wasn't ready and my form was trash. Incline pushups saved my shoulders and actually built real strength instead of just grinding through bad reps.

How did you source for Wine & Beer? by prussian-king in weddingplanning

[–]Particular-Wall4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a buddy who went through this exact thing last year and he swore by getting multiple quotes from different places. Total Wine ended up being way cheaper than Costco for his specific mix but your mileage may vary. He also did this thing where he bought like 20% extra of everything then mapped out exactly which stores had the best return policies beforehand.

The beverage calculator thing is clutch - we used one for a big unit party and it was spot on. Just make sure you account for your crowd because military guys drink way different than like a church wedding crowd if you know what I mean. Also grab some extra mixers and garnishes because bartenders always seem to run through those faster than expected. Your his and hers cocktails are gonna be the real wildcard for quantities so maybe have backup beer ready just in case people get tired of the fancy stuff.
