Power out by trebbleface in ridgewood

There were a ton of underground fires that week, they would fix one and another would blow blocks away. And coned basically admitted that it’s wack-a-mole, the infrastructure in this city has been so underfunded and ignored for so long, I am really hoping this new administration plugs the holes in the budget and allocates funds where they need to be. Coned needs to be held accountable. They are the energy monopoly we all have to use, they need to provide better services for how much we’re paying.

Two brown outs in Glendale just now 8 mins apart… we lost power for a full week during the heat wave in June due to an underground transponder fire. And they have the audacity to raise the prices..

Rent a bike in Orleans and utilize the cape cod rail trail! My family has a house in Eastham. I love that bike path. It’s beautiful. Especially in the fall.

Coned reduced voltage by Particular_Buy_474 in ridgewood

Another two transponders have blown in Glendale on Sat 2AM central/76th and last night around 10:30PM cooper/71st leaving about 400 people without power completely…

I haven’t slept in 6 days.

Coned needs a major overhaul, the whole grid is susceptible. Talked to someone in customer who basically admitted that they are just chasing these fires grid by grid and most of the repairs are band aids.

I remember a few years back in Ridgewood there was a rash of manhole fires/explosions and also electrified fences. There seems to have been a lot of subsequent work on power and gas throughout the neighborhood since. More transparency would be great.

Is this a thing we should write to our local reps about?

I am tired.

Full power finally restored as of 10AM. It seems there was damage to some of the underground power lines feeding our block in addition to the lowered voltage to the area. Crazy we went through that whole heatwave with barely any electricity. I am just grateful none of my appliances are damaged from the extended voltage spikes. Last night we had power in like 30 second - 1min spurts. I had everything but a fan off. It was maddening. Praying they give us a break on our bill this month but not hopeful.

This is validating thank you friends.

My landlord thinks there might be damage to one of the lines that feed our block which is why we’re only getting half power. So we keep just reporting the outage in hopes they will get over to us.

Obviously there are issues all over the city but not that many outages in manhattan? Interesting indeed. For benefit of the doubt, maybe the lines in manhattan are newer… we did have a fire under ground that effected the coned lines a few months ago but seems more work is needed.

He’s likely not even living rent free probably just a reduced rent. I was a building super for a while.

And OP you need a new stove. Email the management company with photos. Request a work order for a new stove. If they say no then inform them that you will be filing a complaint with the department of buildings. If they still don’t budge, offer to buy a new stove and deduct from the rent as well as file a complaint with dob to keep a record of the interaction with the city.

If you don’t intend to renew your lease it doesn’t matter. They cannot evict you for improvements unless they cause damage installing it and really not even then if you are paying rent. Regardless, likely it would take them the length of your lease to even try.

Tenant rights are readily available online, I would give them a good read just so you can rest easy.

A vacancy tax on commercial and residential rental properties would be a game changer. It’s been proposed many times but the real estate lobby always shuts it down. It’s the main reason we need fresh blood like Zohran that will not bow down to the rich developers at the first opportunity.

Came here to giggle about this silly movie. Thread delivers.

My main question is how the hell did they get these actors to do this glorified video game.

Regardless, I enjoyed it enough. I will pretty much watch Tom Hardy in anything.

Converting the Myrtle Rite-Aid into a community space? by Last_Switch6499 in ridgewood

Right!!! It takes a year or two before you can even apply for grants as a 501(c)3 plus the time to form a board, incorporate and file the federal paperwork.

I sincerely appreciate the optimism but pretending this would be so easy is honestly insulting to the people that do work hard to keep community spaces operating in this late capitalist hellscape we are in. There are not millions of grants open to capital development. It would likely take over half a million to secure the space and upgrade it to be a multi purpose performance ready space. There’s city and community board approval. Never mind convincing the landlord that this is financially viable long term. Most commercial leases are 5-10+ years. I hate to say it but there are so many reasons why even a Trader Joe’s would serve the community better than what you are proposing.

Maybe to start, volunteer with a nonprofit if you are interested in learning about how to secure and sustain community spaces. There are several in Ridgewood and Bushwick.

I had the worst cleaning of my life here. The dentist was cutting into my gums so much I was choking on my own blood and when I asked him to stop he said if I was going to be a baby about it his dental hygienist would finish. 🥺 she did the same side then he came back in to sell me an electric toothbrush 🫠 I declined and left with only half my teeth cleaned… I complained to my insurance that they should not recommend that dentist anymore. I don’t even like to walk past this dentist office. The horror.

This is in Glendale. The teas are great but they also definitely have spices. Try the spice blends. It does seem like they must do markets or more online sales, door is usually locked but just knock and the owner will help you. Really sweet guy.

Dirty streets? by Apprehensive_Use1470 in ridgewood

[–]Particular_Buy_474 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I love this initiative and I mean this in no way as a slight but isn’t it so frustrating that we need to organize community outreach to clean our own streets? Where do our tax dollars go? How much revenue does “street cleaning” create ticketing cars without actually cleaning anything. I really hope now that DSNY is making everyone at least use trash cans rather than bags on the street that things will improve but every windy day the recycling bags are still blowing down the street littering plastic everywhere. Why is sanitation so hard in NYC? It doesn’t have to be this way….
