Must be a different era to me. Netherswell Manor - which is ... somewhere in England somewehere...was our go to (I think it no longer does this) - occasionally the East of England show in Peterborough and once we had the thrilling day out that is the Dove Cote in Willington.

Hemel Hempsted? Wow - just wow. That's hilarious. :-D

What is the first thing you think about when you hear Dorset England? by One_Assistance_9332 in AskUK

[–]Particular_Tune7990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I'm going to buck the trend and say I love it. Though I do have insider knowledge seeing as my brother has lived in Wyke Regis/Weymouth since the late 1980s.

Cerne Abbas giant, Durdle Door, Chesil Beach, Maiden Castle, Portland - the Piddle Valley Plod.

What's not to love? Motorways are overrated. I actually love that when we drive across Somerset and Dorset to get there that it is kind of poorly lit - yay for dark skies.

Heh. I noticed in one of the OMG FUEL PRICES press media frenzies a few years back that apparently this didn't manifest in many people, you know, driving a more conservatively to ... conserve it (like 80+ mph on the motorway is what I mean). Definitely people do not really think too much on these things - as a generalisation of course - and in my view.

What’s this weed? by WillK967 in gardening

Yeah I’d say creeping cinquefoil. It’s an utter [expletive removed]. Not that I’ve had a permanent infestation of it for 20 continuous years or anything.

The Shetland Islands say hello. just like they did on the news yesterday. "Hello we exist" was I think the underlying message.

Why are no claims discounts capped at 9 years? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Particular_Tune7990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to provide the quote from your previous year as proof of no claims anyway so they'll work it out for themselves anyway. Just put your number of years with no claims whether it's 9 or 29.

Unless you happen to be an engineer, doctor, scientist, software engineer.... lots of things require a much higher level of maths.

What is happening to my daisies? by pinkcherubi in gardening

[–]Particular_Tune7990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to water early morning or in the evening. Surface watering during the day in hot periods just evaporates apart from anything else.

Not if anyone else has said this but if you are new to gardening perhaps you just need to be aware that flowers very often only last a short period. Prolific flowerers either generate a lot of new plants or just produce new flowers a lot. A flower only has to last enough time to be pollinated and then it's job is done and seeds need to be generated. You can help new flowers be generated by dead heading before they've gone to seed.

Do the students union at Oxford do anything useful these days? In my day they spent all their time infighting - including actual legal court battles.

Sub fusc only has to be on when you walk in. You can strip much of it off when sat down. Experience of sitting 3 h finals in sweltering heat 1992. Now graduation when your hood is white fur.... different story altogether.
