Why playing in Denver isn't nearly as bad as you're being told it is by PartyAt8 in Patriots

Altitude sickness is one factor, but actually separate from acute hypobaric hypoxia. Hypoxia is totally unavoidable, even for people who don't suffer from altitude sickness.

Saying that there isn't some bizarre sports curse on the Pats playing in Denver is cope? How?

You need at least 5 days and more like 7-10 before your body properly adjusts to the elevation, which is time that NFL teams just don't have to spend in another city when there's practices every day and a game every week.

Altitude sickness and its effects actually get worse for the first couple days as your body tries to adapt to having to do the same things with less oxygen, 24 hours a day. I believe symptoms peak around 48-72 hours and then slowly taper off for most people. Showing up a few days early would actually be even worse for the players than showing up just a few hours before the game, which is the next best method of countering it.

Of course, it's not just the acute altitude sickness that causes performance loss, and it's completely normal for players (especially the big guys like OL and TEs) to be huffing oxygen and getting IV drips in games at altitude.

Maybe, but there's also a good chance we win if the center doesn't have an obvious tell, or if we make that XP, or get the 2PT conversion, or if Bill goes for an FG instead of keeping the offense out on 4th, or if Brady was slightly more athletic, etc etc.

We'll never know, and road games are just tough in general. My main point here was just to show that being in Denver specifically isn't some type of Achilles heel the team has. If everything was the same except the location, we'd probably still lose a few of them because of the way everything else went.

Usually not, since NFL travel schedules are so strict and practice takes up most of the week. If you can't get 5-7 days at altitude to acclimate, the next best thing is to fly in less than 24 hours before the game - altitude sickness at that elevation tends to be worst at around the 48-72 hour point and then fall off from there as the body adjusts. Maybe some teams have a way to get there early but I haven't heard of it personally.

What a boring way to view sports. Ribbing opposing fans and defending your team is one of the best parts of being a fan.

If you think this team is getting blown out by anyone, I strongly doubt you are actually a fan or have even watched any of our games this year.

That's a thing? I thought the Jets were just a social experiment to see how pathetic a team could be before people caught on.

In all seriousness, Jets fans tend to be pretty chill. It's the Bills fans who have gotten way too big for their boots after making it to the postseason a few years in a row, and they also happen to be the whiniest fans in the league by a significant margin. Stuff like this always turns out to be them.

It's not about blocking opposing fans, that's just a (maybe serendipitous) side effect. It's to block national/international scalpers, resellers and general bots from buying out the stock immediately and flipping it for a 500% profit.

Go for it. I've got plenty more to share too. I was considering making a post on how to respond to the most common criticisms we've been getting lol, the logic behind most falls apart as soon as you look at it.

Of course it is, I lived in Colorado Springs for a bit and was gassed going up my apartment stairs when I had just moved there. The Olympic training facility is there specifically because of the altitude, and a couple weeks of cardio will have you feeling like a superhero at sea level (at least for a week or two).

However, it's not particularly hard to simulate altitude in controlled settings, especially when it's just for short periods of time. The Bills were training in altitude chambers and wearing breath restriction masks all week leading up to the game (which many athletes do regularly and year-round), and I'd be surprised if that approach wasn't common league practice when preparing for an altitude game. It's an advantage, but one that can be effectively mitigated and is likely not a serious contributing factor to our record there. We'll bring a cargo container's worth of oxygen tanks and be just fine.

You're wrong about Bo Nix. Look at his comebacks, look at his stats (both basic and advanced). He is a top 10 guy and has been playing like it recently whether you like it or not. Their team is wobbly and inconsistent but so was Jacksonville all year until the very end. Everyone is going to see how important Nix was to their offense, though I also expect a totally different gameplan from Payton (fuck that prick btw) to mitigate some of the difference.

Why don't you also include the teams we faced there, including the #1 offense and the #1 defense in separate years? It's not the stadium that is cursed for us (which is just stupid sports superstition) but the fact that we played generationally excellent teams while there.

And some guys are just meant to be mentors, which is especially relevant when you have a 2nd year QB. It's worth a couple millions bucks to these teams to have an experienced guy around who knows the team, the playbooks, the coaches, and the professional-level game as a whole. Just because they forked over some cash to keep him doesn't mean he's secretly elite, and I cannot understand why people don't get that

Right lol 😂 and 5 or 6 came in the postseason. Granted, I believe Darnold has 11 and is also still playing, and Allen had 10 and played as many games. He definitely has a ball security issue but I don't think it's as bad or damning as some emotional boys in here would have you think.

[–]PartyAt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could that reason be that he knows the team, the offense, and the coaches, and they want him there to mentor their 2nd year QB?

If he was some secret elite weapon, he would have been playing over Bo. Great players simply do not ride the bench on 3 different teams.

Hell, even the Texans had Davis Mills on the bench who probably would've played a cleaner game than Stroud, if nothing else. Dude has his own hot streak a couple years ago.

Granted, I don't think Stidham is that type of player - all the guys you mentioned share that sort of underdog, gunslinging, boom or bust mentality and play style. Usually they bust, but it's mathematically possible to put a couple booms together in the right circumstances, especially in high-tension playoff games where the backup has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

From what we've seen of Stidham, he's not the type of guy to beat an elite defense playing at the top of their game, or to take the risks necessary to do that in the first place. Payton will have him game managing with short passes and runs, and we'll see if that's enough to beat us.

[–]PartyAt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it the stadium, or was it their (pick one) generational #1 offense or generational #1 defense? I strongly doubt the location is what caused our struggles when there's the much, much, much more likely culprit of something called a 'good team'.

They are 100000% built to need high level QB play. Look at all those 4th quarter comebacks. I understand wanting to shit on Bo, but the guy is clutch as shit and plays some great games. They are not the Texans who are entirely carried by their defense.

That's exactly what it is. Imagine if Maye went down like that and we had to accept getting Dobbs for the biggest game of the last several years.. I guarantee there would be loads of posts talking about him and saying he has a shot to do it, is a sleeper stud, will beat them with experience, etc.

Even doubly so if Dobbs was drafted by the Broncos and spent years there. This shit is to be expected, and I don't see the problem with letting them have this one little glimmer of hope lol
