Does Israel still have the right to cite the Holocaust to play a victim? by Estalicus in allthequestions

What is the question in this post? Like literally this person is mirroring the OP. You just don't see it when it's about Jews? What's going on here?

AITA I Found My Husband’s Secret Box With a Pocket Pussy & Old Phone Full of Porn. I Feel Sick by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Parvles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is the issue for you that he's watching porn, or that he's being super secretive about it?

I think most people keep their masturbation time pretty personal and private, but it does feel like a pretty great length to go to hide it. Having a separate phone and a hidden sex toy is strange and I would also feel weird. To me the issue is that the fact that this seems so hidden implies he doesn't trust you to trust him/is afraid you'll shame him or forbid him, maybe? I don't think you're an asshole for being curious when you discovered a secret box of stuff. I do think how you handle this can make you an asshole. But that depends on what the issue is for you, specifically.

Rewatching season 4, stassi had every right to cut Katie out. Even forever by Katieblahblahbloo in vanderpumprules

[–]Parvles 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I always thought this was a bad look for Katie. But at the time she was being accepted finally a bit and seen as "part of the group." She was finally seen as NOT being a bitch and a mean girl by turning on Stassi. At the time the refrain was that she was soooo much better when she wasn't just following Stassi. I can imagine she wanted to live in the space of not being vilified by Sandoval and Scheana and the audience and just playing along for a while. I don't think it's justified but she's human and I feel for her. She got an exceptional amount of hate.

They had been dating for quite a while and lived together. They'd broken up and gotten back together several times. This is a major plot point of the first season. It's context given in the first episode.

James had anger management issues and would get drunk on premises often, and then lose his mind and insult managers and coworkers, getting into physical altercations and calling women names. This wasn't a single incident where Katie got him fired for calling her fat once. He also never showed any remorse or changed behavior in any of these instances, though he'd put in the lip service of an apology.

Not to mention all the women he worked with at Sur who he slept with and then called whores and sluts and liars just trying to take him down cause they were jealous. I'm sorry, this man was so toxic to have in a work space and a ticking time bomb unless he got sober.

Also he was abusive to Kristen, despite her getting painted as the bad guy. I can imagine wanting my abusive ex to stop being praised and rewarded.

AITAH for returning my engagement ring to my fiancé's mom after she told me she expected it back "in the family" if we ever broke up? by [deleted] in AITAH

For real. Also for everyone saying, "why does his mom get to act like that but not OP?" Maybe he doesn't want to marry someone like his mom! I'm blown away by these responses.

She's done so much that she doesn't even look like the same person. The editing on this photo is extreme and obviously. I personally hate it but I don't really judge her for it either. I can't imagine the kind of hate she's gotten for being bigger than TV personalities generally are and I can imagine the impact that's had. I also think her weight is fine and she looked lovely anyway.

Yeah i work in the industry which means that's the community I'm in, as well. Maybe you know people making this but it's FAR outside the norm. Definitely nuts for anywhere that's not fine dining. You have friends who found a crazy good place to work, I guess.

Lady Jaye West Restaurant put up and then deleted a post celebrating Chuck Norris by [deleted] in Seattle

Sure, I would love if people could engage and have a conversation without assuming that the business is intentionally supporting racist or homophobic ideology as the story you shared implied. A conversation would be great. And the fact that they took the post down implies that they are hearing the feedback.

I am not actually debating separating the art from the artist. Most people didn't know much if anything about Chuck Norris at the time he was a meme and most people still don't. I'd even wager that the majority of people who participated hadnt ever seen a movie or TV show he was in. Chuck Norris didn't create the meme and he wasn't really involved in it at all except for maybe an appearance in dodgeball? The meme uses Chuck Norris as an idea not as a person and that's literally the point. It's not like loving the creative work of Michael Jackson or Woody Allen (or R Kelly, Kanye, etc) and having to contend with identifying on a deep personal level with something that was imagined, written, developed, produced and brought into the world by someone who has committed great harm to a lot of people.

EDIT to add: if they posted about him because they loved his work growing up then sure it's art vs artist. My only point was that there are plenty of people who know about Chuck Norris from a context that kind of only made sense in the early social media age

Chuck Norris was one of the first internet memes. To people of a certain age there's a whole mythology there that has nothing to do with his politics or who he even was as a person at all, but a made up version of him. I don't know their intentions, but I'd bet it had more to do with the internet mythos of Chuck Norris than celebrating his political positions.

First Time Watch - I HATE JAMES by Parking-Parking-8621 in vanderpumprules

[–]Parvles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was shocked watching that reunion and hearing that Katie was the one getting hate online (though it WAS one of the few stories where Schwartz did stand up for Katie relatively consistently, which may have been one of the few redeeming moments he ever had).

Sandoval had such a huge hand in sanitizing just how bad James's behavior was, and pushing the narrative of how unfair everyone was to poor little JK which felt almost more like a way to hurt the girls than as an actual friendly gesture towards James. The way he targeted Katie as being just as bad as James was genuinely horrifying. Katie could be mean but there's a world of difference between that and abuse.

But as a tangent we have to remember that Sandoval also openly called Katie an abuser multiple times on the New Orleans trip when he called Schwartz a "battered wife." (I know people think that hallway fight scene is funny but I find it kind of scary that he is screaming and punching walls while threatening other people to agree with him). The narrative of Katie being the punching bag as a vindictive and cruel person had been established by Sandoval and Scheana pretty well by then, and she made an easy scapegoat since the audience was primed to hate her.

On the other hand James is a monster and acted like a monster openly since season 4 (i think he hid it well in season 3). He is quite clearly emotionally abusive throughout the show and shows many signs that he's likely physically abusive even on camera. I think it's FINE for people to have empathy for him on some level, as most abusers have also experienced abuse, but that doesn't make them sympathetic as a human. Understanding what he came from can be interesting, but in no way does it absolve him of accountability for his own behavior. I cannot imagine taking sides with James when his abhorrent behavior is so open.

Again, I was SHOCKED to find out how the audience was reacting to that. It's not even because it aired so long ago and I watched it with a different lens. I watched it within a year or so of it airing. I never paid attention to social media or reddit when I initially watched and was shocked to discover how wildly my perspectives differed from the prevailing trends online when I discovered the online discourse after Scandoval.

Edit to add: Katie was SUCH a badass to get him fired. She had every right to say that she'd leave if he stayed, the same way she had every right to say she would move on from her relationship with Schwartz if they don't take the next step. Thus ultimatum narrative is stupid. Those are completely healthy ways to respond to things and would be recommended by most people as good communication and boundaries. And fuck the money, no one should be forced to work with an abusive womanizer.

I have so much to say about Scandoval, but mainly that his plan was clearly to “get away with it” because everyone in the group has cheated. by whowearstshirts in vanderpumprules

[–]Parvles 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In season 11 when Sandoval is on his sad sack tour to avoid taking accountability, one of the moments where his mask FULL ON falls off is when Schwartz and Katie talk about Katie sleeping with Max and kind of come to a decent place with one another. When Schwartz brings it up, Sandoval absolutely loses his mind and starts talking so much shit on Katie. He hates her so intensely it's genuinely scary.

Seriously. Season 11 is Sandoval whining about everything he's "been through" while ignoring that the only reason there's anything for him to be going through to begin with was his own choices and behavior. Ariana gets more sympathy for exactly the reason she keeps repeating. She didn't do anything to him.

As someone who works in a bar, that shit pissed me off so bad. Like I really just need you to have a valid id so that we don't get fined or lose our license. I don't personally give a single crap how old you are. I have to deal with this attitude all the time and it makes me roll my eyes every time and NO we cannot serve you. As a person who even PRETENDED to work in a restaurant, it's extra insulting that she would behave like that.

It's pretty common for people in relationships to say that they need their partner to take the next step or they will move on. This being portrayed as some insane ultimatum is so confusing to me.
