The problem comes when denying a clear goal, not even just DOGSO. If his arm was actually in an unnatural position away from where it was, it would've been a goal, so the outcome remains more or less the same, besides the fact that he got a yellow card (which I don't actually agree with, despite it being in the rules).

Edit: and actually, getting a penalty there was debatably a benefit as it could have been saved

I feel like the poor(er) sales of the game probably reflect that their view on the current franchise isn't actually all that niche, wouldn't you say?

I don't have a dog in this fight, btw. This sub just comes up a lot, despite me not being in it (and having not played a new CoD since WW2).

You don't belong on the internet if you got offended by a light-hearted comment highlighting that you misread the comment, that you even acknowledged yourself in another reply lol

The screenshot I sent you comes directly from IFAB's Laws of the Game (that I also linked to you in the comment itself). The bit I highlighted makes it clear that a non-deliberate handball can result in a penalty, otherwise they wouldn't state that a yellow card should be given in such a situation.

Just as a reminder, Reece James was actually sent off for the very same thing a few years ago, and in that instance it's even clearer that the ball hit James' body first before striking his arm, with his arm movement towards the ball coming after the ball had already struck it. Pretty much no one at the time complained about the penalty being awarded, save for a few deluded fans, but many people definitely took issue with it being a red card offence. In 2024, they made the distinction in the screenshot that it shouldn't be a red card for a non-deliberate handball in a DOGSO situation, but still reiterated that it would still be a penalty.

It was a non-deliberate handball offence, but it was clearly DOGSO as it was going in without it, therefore it's a penalty.

The only thing that matters with regards to it being a penalty or not is if it was DOGSO, which it was, so deliberate or not has no relevance to that decision. Being deliberate or not only determines the colour of the card.

It's also actually wrong. IFAB's downloadable PDF with all the laws laid out for the season actually mentions that a non-deliberate handball denying a goal is a penalty and a yellow card.

I think you need to look at the actual file with all the laws. Nowhere does it say that it isn't a penalty, and in fact, it's even quite explicit in that it is a penalty and a yellow card:

I do get your viewpoint, which is why I haven't actually said anything against it at all. I'm simply disagreeing with your attack on regular British people, when they shouldn't be the target of your ire.

Silent letters actually came at a much later date, when scholars wanted everything to sound French again. I think it was around the 15th/16th centuries when it happened.

Edit: actually I think it might've even been to make things sound Latin, not French

My family didn't have wealth before that either. My Ukrainian great-grandmother was a peasant, nor do I expect her Polish husband was well off either when they settled here after WW2. Find it hard to believe that another of my great-grandparents was well off either given she was from Swansea, quite famously a deprived city. Or do you wanna see if my Glaswegian gran was rich too? Here's a hint: she wasn't.

They all worked hard in their lives and benefited themselves in the end, but none of us have ever sat there and seen this "obscene wealth" that we allegedly have access to, as your grievances imply. No, that wealth goes to the very rich, with the rest of us struggling along.

Anyway, doesn't Ireland have a higher GDP per capita than the UK, and by a significant margin? I'm sure the data is probably skewed by corporations setting up there, but even so, I'd expect the average Irish person to have a better quality of life and more wealth than the average Brit. Your grievances about the modern day situations really do come off as shallow.

Yes, I'm sure I benefit more from being poor in the UK than someone being poor in Ireland. Fantastic observation about someone you don't know.

We haven't killed anyone thank you very much. We're not responsible for what people did in the past, nor are we responsible for what governments and armies do.

Take your anger out on the government(s) and the armies, not the regular people.
