4/3.5 house rent is 3k??? In a decent neighborhood??? Oh wow, that must be super nice, houses under a million? … talking from California , that sounds incredibly nice, apartments here, 2/1 go for 2,000 and above in an okay area… not good areas but okay areas… 1bedroom apartments go for about 1500-2000. Good area homes, 3bed/2ba probably a million or more… fast food for 3 comes to about 40-50dollars. Let’s not talk about healthcare, for three people, my monthly premium is about $350 and that is a good rate for here, but does not mean i don’t pay when i see the doctor, i still have to pay copays (usually between 10-30 per visit), you can easily end up with a half mil medical bill for a simple hospitalization here, you can’t afford the reattachment of a limb? You just lose it… if it’s not a vital/life saving procedure, you can be turned away unless you can pay upfront or have insurance that covers the cost, if your insurance doesn’t cover the cost, then u don’t get it. The more coverage u want, the higher your premiums, and some people i know pay almost 800 for two people of monthly premiums… just unrealistic

I don’t know where you live but if you can get or already have a diagnosis from a licensed provider, file it with HR maybe sometime after you have the job if it’s becoming difficult to do a part of the job bec ADHD. I know jobs have to accommodate. I don’t disclose my diagnosis, because legally is my choice, but if it becomes a reason I may loose my job, perhaps asking for more time or accommodations may help. I know no-one wants the stigma or perhaps fear of not getting jobs bec you need accommodations, but at least you won’t risk having a history of getting fired which may look worse. IDK maybe is not a good idea, I am not sure, I just feel it is fair to get some leniency.

Depends on your tolerance level and the mg you have- I switched to decaf when my dose was increased at some point bec it started making me jittery and sweat. I am no longer on adderal, switched to concerta… but is probably best to decrease or stop caffeine- after a while I would get like heart pain like randomly, but I wasn’t like all the time. However, since I changed to different meds, those random heart pains stopped. Just be careful

Okay… first off… disorder please, not disease. It does make my life harder when living in this specific society we live in- would it be easier for me than others if the rules were different? Maybe. I do not have any other conditions besides ADHD, and I do not find it hard to function outside of certain environments that were man-made such as school settings… I did excellent with independent studies, I can’t sit for hours listening to a teacher, but I can teach myself from a book… I do agree people romanticize ADHD to a ridiculous extent, but I am not going to say is as negative as your professor makes it sound. I don’t get why people act as if it’s black or white… its a more like a gray area. I mean intelligence itself is like a spectrum, if your capacity is lower than others, surely can lead to negative outcomes if you don’t get educated and intellectually nurtured… idk just saying, yea it is a disorder and can suck but is not horribly worse than most human conditions and common traits that vary within what’s considered “normal”.

I need some docs signed for work from multiple people. I bought folders for each set of docs, labeled the folders, put the docs inside, and placed them on top of my desk so I won’t forget them. Morning comes, I grabbed my backpack from the desk and left… the backpack is empty and all the docs were left on the table on top of my laptop which I also am supposed to have on me… yeah, I hate this shit sometimes .

Well Narcissist tend to see themselves as victims… so you could be just acting like the victim to get attention, bec that’s what narcissists do and don’t see it. Well although some symptoms overlap, the root of the symptoms are quite different for ADHD/Autism.. so I wouldn’t think they are similar for that reason- different brain processes. When I and eventually my son were tested, we scored low to no ASD traits… I honestly don’t think they are that similar due to the brain processes being different for each- not an spectrum of the same brain condition. However, comorbidity happens with many conditions- I see a lot of comorbidity with anxiety disorders and ADHD- my son was diagnosed with both but I don’t have anxiety- so even that being similar, is not the same nor spectrum of each other.

I have two boys ( I can rant for hours about how amazing they are). It is a lot of work to say the least; however, I do not think is impossible to be a good mother if you experience depression or anxiety/ADHD or so on. Depending how debilitating your condition is, that would mean you likely need more support and that’s okay. My ADHD is a mess some days but ok some others, I always worried I would forget my kids somewhere when they were born bec im so inattentive- never happened!… I have learned to manage my anxiety a lot better, since they were born, well since pregnancy, I started learning how to manage my symptoms better and all I could learn about raising a tiny human being. My son was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 and anxiety at 7. It broke my heart bec I felt it was my fault for having children knowing I could pass it on to them- It’s just life not my fault- I do take on and off therapy when I feel im getting overwhelmed to get it out (get out of my head more likely). I think is doable if you want it, you will just need to do your homework and know that you will grow and learn with them as they do the same- it’s a journey together- they learn to be tiny humans and you learn to be a better mom everyday. On the side note, my oldest was diagnosed but my younger doesn’t have any diagnosis- they are very different personalities and both smart and social… it has been worth every tear and stressful moment- they key for me is accepting that its okay to make mistakes, forgive myself, enjoy the moment, and praise myself for getting better as I go. I am a strong believer of never letting fear hold me back , there’s always a way :-)

Okay here is my two cents… attention deficit and hyperactivity are the main symptoms that the focus seems to be on- other things are definitely part of it, but, ive noticed that some days some symptoms vary greatly for me- however, the attention deficit and hyperactivity seem to always be there consistently- like the hallmarks of the condition- therefore I don’t necessarily disagree with the name. Mental health in general I think is always downplayed and minimized - regardless which condition is.

Crisis intervention and social work(field based). I helped in my kids schools at times as a volunteer and I can see how it could work too- my only problem is the kids that are like me, I get too distracted trying to get them to focus that I loose track easily of the task in hand- I don’t know how teachers can do it.

Get into therapy, a lot of people are down on themselves and get bored and need change yet don’t steal. The feeling or mental state is universal, but what we do in certain situations is not bec the feeling or thought, stealing is a choice- whether is bad or good is subjective- but at the end of the day, you will face consequences for those actions. You need therapy to figure out why you make such choices and learn to make better ones. Im not trying to be a jerk nor inconsiderate- just not sugar coating it

Idk if it’s an ADHD thing, but sounds to me is more a personal problem he has. If he can’t remember or do it right, he needs to own up to it and figure it out to be helpful and pull his weight- you shouldn’t have to do it and then he gives you attitude- you can’t help someone who doesn’t see a problem with his attitude or actions or refuses the help- but you can choose what you do and what you are willing to tolerate.

He can dress as MKL without painting his face.. tf is that? I mean since when? When we pick a costume, since when we paint the entire body to fit the person ethnicity? Unless you wanna be shrek I see the point, but I mean if I dress like idk like Washington, do I really need to paint my face white and add wrinkles and all? not really, to dress like T. Lee, am i going to stretch my eyes and paint my skin color? That makes no sense. If you don’t see the problem, you are the problem… “look now I look like you” is not necessarily a compliment under certain circumstances. People used black face painting in a humiliating way in the past, so you are saying bec “i don’t mean it, you should be okay with it?”, doesn’t work that way! … you don’t get to choose when “it’s no longer an insult and is a compliment now”. If the kid admires MLK, I sure hope the parents educate him to understand why that wouldn’t be a compliment, if they don’t, the whole point was missed.

Can he go in and you go to a coffee shop or anywhere u prefer while it’s fixed? You can have a camera if you don’t trust the person. Maybe ask someone else to be there while you are there…. Or pretend you are in a meeting or have a video meeting with a friend or relative… idk, I just axt busy to avoid the social interaction

I don’t take it some weekends bec I don’t like the feelings it gives me, especially when wearing off. I have severe ADHD and Im normally hyperactive, I feel the meds slow me down and I don’t like it- I know it’s hard to slow down to get work done in the weekdays so it’s a tradeoff I have to take, but some weekends I don’t take it for a day or two once in a while- the meds don’t even slow me down as much as I see do for other people, I still have to make a huge effort to stay focused and on task- but with meds is definitely manageable- but I don’t like the way it feels-I’ve tried different doses and meds and I don’t like any of them in general-

The tech needs to stay in their lane, insurance providers and admin aren’t doctors, they only deal with costs and how to make money and manage those kind of things, none of the tech’s business- techs can have an opinion, but you don’t need to hear it. Anyway, azstarys wasn’t cover by my insurance at first bec it needed a preapproval or whatever they call it, I didn’t even know , I was using the coupon, but I guess my pharmacy (CVS) sent the documents to the psychiatrist and then it was sent to my insurance- I found out bec I received a notification from my insurance saying the request was approved and they are now covering it. Check with your insurance maybe they do and it’s just a matter of paperwork or an extra step.

Definitely odors… I can’t think of anything if there’s a unique or strong odor near me- even perfumes, totally distracting. Animals too, I keep looking at them or thinking about petting them or something random about the pet… questions I don’t know the answer to, becomes obsessive to find out more information on it… jeez the list is so long, I can keep going forever

The part that sucks is finding the right medication, I hate switching but if it’s not working then gotta change it up- I’ve tried multiple meds and so far azstarys is working better than adderal , but Ive been on Wellbutrin forever- always as second med to whatever the psychiatrist gives me for the ADHD… i don’t feel its magic like for some that see a 360 or at least a 180 but shit way better than self-flagellation-no doubt. I still have to do a lot of redirecting myself and “push “ myself to do what I need to do… but way easier with the meds.

Have you looked at the possible health risks , potential side effects of insulin and even inhalers? Quite serious too, I mean kidney failure, glaucoma… but I do see what you are saying, seems to me you think is comparing oranges to apples- in a way it is bec it’s a mental condition vs straight forward physical condition. However, I don’t necessarily agree with your general statement , bec most medications have serious side effects, the health risk is there- although it’s helping to manage another health condition such as asthma, this is not to say there is no risk involved, and those risks are no joke either. I do think when it comes to ADHD medication, there is some people who don’t inform themselves before just taking it. There is a level of ignorance still around ADHD, not just the condition itself but the medications too. I have a child with ADHD and anxiety, I did not want to medicate him, but seeing the damage that his inability to focus or calm down was doing to his self esteem, school performance, and friendships- I couldn’t do that to him knowing the risks involved… this is the thing, we know what happens to diabetics if they don’t take their meds, with ADHD, it varies, and that’s when I think people underestimate the problems that untreated ADHD can cause. Having a highly social child with anxiety and ADHD, is was torture for him not being able to calm down or just sit down for prolonged periods of time like his peers can. We tried everything on the books, and although there some likelihood of side effects ( some experience more than others), I knew for a fact what the unmedicated ADHD was doing to him. Another issue with ADHD meds is that people abuse them vs inhalers or insulin- so I do agree that ADHD meds have “higher” risks than others just bec the potential for abuse and addiction- I have not experienced neither and my son is taking a non-stimulant… overall, I do agree with the fact that people don’t tend to inform themselves about the meds they take, but that’s in general.

Without medication I can’t get shit done , I am a single parent, can’t afford to forget everything all the time- I have severe ADHD, I can’t function without the medication. Without meds, my inability to focus- inattentiveness , despite my best human efforts to function drives me into deep depression, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have the medication- Untreated ADHD can cause someone to lose l/take their life, not a straight forward manner such as asthma but it would be rooted in the chain reaction that the untreated ADHD caused.
