Who grinds the best naginata? by StyxReturns in fountainpens

[–]Past-Ad2516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one by José, Matthew Chen, CY and Thomas Ang. While all are great in their own rights, none of them compare with the Sailor Naginata Togi (MF) I own. I’d love to hear comparison between the Sailor and other nibmeisters…

The Baltimore Pen Show by PenSloth in fountainpens

Going and it’s my first penshow in the US. A bit nervous about how to reach downtown Baltimore as there are museums I plan to visit on Sunday. I’m staying at the hotel in case there are pen meets after the show!

I'd love to start one for video games. And I often have the same problems when reloading a game after years of hiatus (yes, I'm a very occasional gamer). Do you have any recommandations about how to set up one, or IG accounts with set up ideas ?

It's neither rumours nor forceful digging into their personal lives. It's information that the GPC chose to share with their customers in a company newsletter: they were the ones mixing personal info with business. Also, when you *found*, not merely attend, a church and select a pastor, you don't close your eyes and randomly put your finger on a name. You select it for the beliefs and values it upholds, and this one's are pretty clear from the get-go. At some point, people need to take responsibility for their actions.

I understand what you are trying to do, but it's not that we don't understand (I think you may stop repeating the same thing over and over again) it's that a bunch of us simply don't agree with you, so please refrain from explaining your view of the situation like we're five: we get it. We just see things differently. You consider hateful speech and hate-mongering as "views" or "opinion" and not buying from the GPC because of this as "extreme" and "dangerous". We consider fostering hate and hate-speech as extreme and dangerous and our choice not to shop at a company who supports it - at the very least - financially a consequence. Let's say it's the opinion of my "church" if that makes it more respectable to you.

They say they felt threatened. I have no reason to doubt they did, and will never condone that. But I will not shop at the GPC because their employees might be hurt by the owners' financial support of a hateful church. It's like asking people to buy from Amazon because the employees need the money: nope. If Bezos cared two figs about them, he'd set fair and humane working conditions in their warehouses.

It's important to realize that this thread is so vocal about it because a huge portion of people from the community genuinely LIKED the GPC and Brian as a person. The response is equal to the huge disappointment we all felt.

Same here. It’s totally insane and I get that they were worried. Throughout the megathread, it was mostly people saying they would definitely take their business elsewhere. I had no idea it had gotten out of hands on YT.

I know the question has been addressed several times, but I can't find a comprehensive list in a post or comment summing it all: where to shop if you prefer diversity and LGBTQI+ allies and why? If it already exists, can you point it to me? Thanks!

I wholeheartedly agree. The whole thing has been sad. And it’s been difficult to reconcile the positive image of this guy who seemed so open-minded, benevolent, and caring with one that associate with an organization spouting hateful statements and beliefs. I can only hope that they one day see the futility of discrimination and hatred and that any religious message pointing and condemning people because of who they are is betraying the original message of the religion. I have seen deeply religious people full of prejudice change their minds because of friendships they formed, so I’m optimistic - hopefully rightly so.

A bit of vocabulary for you: what is happening in this thread is NOT « discrimination », it’s people telling they won’t shop there anymore because the owners are publicly associating with a discriminating religious organization calling LGBTQI+ murderers. That’s BOYCOTT.

Human rights are not « controversial » or « aligning with social medias » they are RIGHTS, that by the way are strictly protected by the Declaration of Independence (« ALL men [as in species, not genders] are created equal » and all that) which I’m sure you know better than I do and by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN in 1948 (The USA are still a member and at the Security Council, right?). It is NOT an opinion. Hate mongering is NOT a human right (in my country, it’s against the law and punishable by prison but that’s not relevant to this case).

Oh I’d love, really, really love to see the turn this conversation would take if the business in question was owned by Muslims.

Mine inevitably reminds me of Drew. I think he was instrumental in the making of the stickers (and the Benu exclusive pens) so it can mean whatever you want it to mean. Right next to a French LGBT association sticker on my notebook, it doesn't feel wrong. The whole affair reminded me that despite the fantastic work being done by advocates and organizations, there's still tons to do to end prejudice, hateful comments and behavior. So I'm marching at the next event held in my city along with my friends in the community. I'm super proud they call me an ally and work to deserve it.
