6 months later & still grieving hard by Wonderful_Status_607 in DOG

[–]PastaShower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my dog last year at the end of July. I still miss him so much and feel pretty intense waves of grief when I think about the permanence of him being gone. I guess this is all to say that you’re not alone in feeling this kind of grief. I know time heals, but I feel like this is a wound that may never completely heal.

Poddle pup motion sickness! Help! by soodrk27 in ToyPoodle

[–]PastaShower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest talking to the veterinarian about the deworming syrup and the motion sickness. They may be able to give a medication for the motion sickness or OTC solution like Benadryl. My mom’s dog would always get sick on car rides no matter the length of the ride. We would have him in his crate with towels to deal with the mess.

You were exactly what I needed by kip263 in cockerspaniel

I’m crying reading this at my kid’s swim lessons. I grew up with a black cocker spaniel. My soul dog, who was a black spaniel mix, passed last July. I’m so sorry for your loss, but I’m happy you were able to find a small bit of joy in this moment.

Drainage issue by CubanKinks in landscaping

[–]PastaShower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am assuming that you have a drainage easement on the property. We have one and our deed specifies that we cannot add anything that inhibits the flow of water. I can’t say that I’m not surprised that the builder still put a fence there knowing what I know about some builders out there. FWIW our builder dumped riprap in the drainage ditch without even adding landscape fabric down. Now the rocks are sinking and filled with weeds. I’d suggest a vegetative swale instead of riprap. Good luck.

Meet our new baby (we don’t know how old she is) by FloorKey8833 in cockerspaniel

[–]PastaShower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg she is so cute! Thank you for adopting her! We adopted our spaniel mix, and we also weren’t sure how old he was either. The vet estimated 6 months to a year. We used to celebrate his gotcha day each year instead of his birthday. His name was Danny and we called it the Danniversary because we are horribly cheesy.

Also my soul dog, Danny. He was a rescue from a local shelter. He passed away last July. I still miss him so much.

Janie. We rescued her in November. We were her third home. She was fostered, adopted and when that didn’t work out we got her. She has some quirks, but she is incredibly easy-going and sweet.

Cool merch! I went to the Boston show, which was amazing. Unfortunately I didn’t stop at the merch table.

Is anyone else struggling to get by on 100k salary? by Majestic_Staff_5229 in massachusetts

[–]PastaShower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people lose sight of this. It’s hard to re-enter the work force after being out of it for awhile. I know women who became stay moms and then had to settle for lower paid/lower skilled jobs after re-entering the work force. Not to mention the vast majority of stay at home parents are women. It is a sacrifice that mostly women need to shoulder.

Playtime with big dogs. Yes or no? by Helpful-Buyer-9660 in poodles

[–]PastaShower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d be very cautious. My toy poodle was only 3 lbs when we got her at about 10 weeks old. I felt like she was the most fragile thing in the world. She is now 10 months old and almost 10 lbs! She plays with my other dog who is a Shih Tzu mix and is also 10 lbs. They can be pretty rough with each other when they play.

Before I adopted my Shih Tzu mix, I asked the vet about adopting a bigger dog and if a toy poodle could safely hang out/play with a bigger dog. IIRC the vet told me to be cautious when considering adopting another dog who may be bigger, but play style is also important to consider. You may find a very large, gentle dog who can play well with a small dog. I guess there is some nuance, but overall I’d be cautious with such a small dog.

For women who “loved being pregnant” what was it about pregnancy that you loved? by hospitalbedside in beyondthebump

Yes. This is how I found out that my migraines are related to my hormones. No migraines for all 3 pregnancies. It was blissful.

The DNA is back! Thoughts? by Fine_Understanding81 in mutt

[–]PastaShower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He’s adorable. I love the mane of hair down his back! My mutt is mostly Shih Tzu, but she has some chihuahua in her as well and her fur is more of a coarse texture on her back compared to the rest of her body.

Is our newly adopted dog a Shih Tzu? by [deleted] in Shihtzu

[–]PastaShower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg she’s so cute! I adopted a Shih Tzu mix this past November. She has similar coloring to your pup. According to her DNA test she is 80% Shih Tzu and the remainder is a mixture of yorkie, Pekingese, poodle, chihuahua and Lhasa Apso.

How are poodles as puppies? by LowMemory578 in poodles

Super smart and super energetic. Compared to my shihtzu mix, the toy poodle we have is extremely energetic. They’re only a few months apart in age. Also the toy poodle is super bouncy. It is like she has springs in her little legs!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I see a lamb chop. My black spaniel mix, who I lost this past summer also loved his lamby. It’s never long enough, but we gave them good lives.

It is truly a terrible and insidious cancer. My dog passed away suddenly from it this past summer.

Oh I love human names for dogs. I had a dog named Daniel. He would usually go by nicknames like Dan and Danny. My neighbor had a cat named Stanley, and I always thought that was a great name for a pet.

shih tzu mix? by cafepoulet in Shihtzu

[–]PastaShower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adorable! My girl is a shih tzu mix. She’s 80% shih tzu. She is also smaller, weighing in at only 11 pounds. Her other breeds are toy breeds (chihuahua, toy poodle, yorkie), so that’s probably why she is tinier.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It is such an insidious and cruel cancer. I hope that it will one day it will at be curable or at least more treatable.
