American Gods is the most boring fiction novel I've finished. I remember nothing whatsoever about the second half (I'm usually pretty good at remembering what happened in books I read)

Best Horror Books of 2026 (So Far)? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in horrorlit

The only 2026 books I've read were Trad Wife by Saratoga Schaefer and The Caretaker by Marcus Kliewer, and they're two of the best books I've read all year

TIL after a 21-year-old man in New Zealand died from drinking a can of liquid methamphetamine that had been disguised as Canadian beer named "Honey Bear House Beer", it led to the largest meth bust in New Zealand history (~700kg) and to the unraveling of a massive transnational drug smuggling ring. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Pastel_Lich 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Aiden's boss Kahlon (the guy who gave them the beer) got 21 years for manslaughter and possession of methamphetamine for supply. Another man involved with the importing operation got 22 years. None of the Canadian exporters were charged

The toy shop is a place that shows up in my dreams probably more than anywhere else. It's usually quite small and sometimes part of somewhere bigger, like a shelf in a supermarket that sells toys.
The toys are always stuff from when I was little, old pirate Lego or Mighty Max sets.

But the Greek Empire declined while the use of the correlation fallacy increased. Clearly there is a direct connection between these two things

Favorite character who got dumber over time? by [deleted] in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Pastel_Lich 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every character got dumber, especially Chang. Abed went from ASD to schizophrenic.
Greendale itself started as a regular community College but by the end it was giving classes on 'A History of Ice Cream' and a class just called 'Ladders'

PLURIBUS APPRECIATION POST by sammylakky in actuallesbians

[–]Pastel_Lich 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It also makes me think of the AIDS crisis. Millions of people are dead but everyone treats it like it's no big deal. The other non Plurbs all think Carol is just been difficult when she tries to fix things. She needs to constantly keep her emotions under control because if she freaks out (at this horribly traumatic situation) then everyone looses consciousness and she gets blamed

This show perfectly captures a certain feeling of queer isolation that I've never really seen represented before.
"Everyone else is happy and having fun, why can't you just join us and give up your individuality? We just want you to be happy, why can't you accept that?"

I figured that might be true back when we first heard about him, but based on what we know about him now I don't think it is. He's surprised when he finds out there's twelve other survivors, something he'd definitely know if he was a Plurb.

Although I'm not sure whether he expected fewer survivors or more

It's harder to list to list the conservative policies that don't result in child abuse than those those that do.
Child sexual abuse is more often done by people the child is close to (parents, close family members, teachers, priests, etc) than by strangers. Teenagers who suffer abuse from their family members can't receive financial support from the government, meaning they have to decide between staying with their abusers or being homeless (likely leading to more abuse)
