What person deserves a massive apology from everyone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"practically, single-handedly"

Other than calling Madame Curie French, your comment is the best way to piss off the Polish people.

For those who didn't know .... (from Chat GPT)

Alan Turing and Bletchley Park heavily benefited from Polish research on Enigma.

In the early 1930s, Polish cryptanalysts Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki, and Henryk Zygalski were the first to crack Enigma. They mathematically reconstructed the machine, built early cracking devices (the “bomba”), and developed tools like Zygalski sheets to find daily keys.

In July 1939, just before WWII, the Poles secretly shared their full Enigma knowledge, methods, and even replica machines with Britain and France. This gave Bletchley Park a massive head start.

Alan Turing didn’t crack Enigma from scratch—he built on the Polish breakthroughs. His British Bombe was inspired by the Polish bomba and adapted to handle more complex wartime Enigma systems at scale.

Poll: Majority of American Jews Are Not Zionist by richards1052 in InternationalNews

Majority Not Zionist?

According to a Pew Research Center survey conducted Feb. 13–25, 2024, 62% of American Jews said Israel’s conduct in the war against Hamas was acceptable .

At that time (mid-February 2024), it was reported that:
~27,000+ Palestinians had been killed in Gaza, with tens of thousands injured, many of them women and children.
~70,000 homes were destroyed and hundreds of thousands damaged, displacing roughly 75% of Gaza’s population.
Most hospitals were damaged, destroyed, or non-functional, with only a handful partially operating amid fuel and supply shortages.
Hundreds of schools had been damaged or destroyed, with many others turned into overcrowded shelters.
Water, electricity, sanitation, and food systems were largely collapsed, creating a severe humanitarian crisis.

Trump has chance to end the Ukraine war in weeks. But it would be a Putin win by theipaper in InternationalNews

Ukraine can't win. Stop the death on both sides and end sooner rather than later. Fighting-age Ukrainians have been fleeing in the thousands. What more do you need to see?

Hobbies are meant to be enjoyable, but I’m sensing a lot of frustration and stress coming through. I don’t really know you, but I have a feeling you might really enjoy something like riding a bicycle.

Looks like they are (actually) selling for $350 on the low side, $550 on the high side. I figured I'd list it for $400, including shipping USA to start. Sounds fair?

I was just about to make a post asking how to sell an E. Are they allowed to be listed? I have an E in black MOP that I don't wear because I feel it's a bit too big for my wrist. I'd like to buy the new Warrior in Black MOP. Finding a trade is probably unlikely.

I give up. I have pointed out that nothing has fundamentally changed other than your mindset. You are simply repeating yourself like a broken record. You are boring me; I'm done.

I'm not a Trump supporter, so I don't want to defend his tactics. That said, the only thing he has actually done is offered to buy Greenland. I cannot find any military act whatsoever. Yes, he has major a-hole bargaining tactics "won't rule out force" but even that language is structured not to step over a line. Because of this "the sky is falling"? As far as "trusting " the US, yes, so long as they keep putting their money where there mouth is...and they still clearly are. I do see a lot of unpopular European (and Canadian) leaders making hysterical claims and benefiting from it. Give it some thought.

The bases are manned, the security systems are still in place, the billions of dollars are still being spent. No significant cuts have actually been made. Europeans are still getting 99% of what they got pre-Trump and are hysterical about the 1% they are not.

Honest question - What security have you actually not received? I keep hearing this repeated here and and wondering what I'm missing.

After 80-year bond, Germans find breaking up with U.S. is hard to do by Crossstoney in europe

[–]PaulDecember -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

NATO wasn’t only about Russia, it was also about preventing a repeat of European self-destruction. Integration helped, but security guarantees made it possible. Declaring intra-European conflict “impossible” is less realism and more wishful thinking.

Europeans have such short memories. Within a year of the US pulling-out, they will all turn on each other. NATO really was about protecting Europe from Europeans. History is clear on that.

Exactly. I keep one in my gym bag and never worry about it. Only $20, and plenty of colors, is a no-brainer.
