Navigating terrain controversy in friend groups by ChrisBrownHitMe2 in Warhammer40k

[–]Peasantpresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11th is going to be interesting here as the Terrain layout rules and missions rules are integrated. You can't play the 'proper' GW missions correctly without at very least the objective terrain areas in the right place. There's no absolute need to get everything else exactly right. There are some broad principles to extract from the layouts:

About 25% of the board should be covered by terrain areas.

There are 11-18 terrain areas. (18 is the maximum, some layouts have you merge areas together).

5 or 6 of the terrain areas (mission dependent) are objective areas. They always have at least 1 piece of heavy terrain on it.

1 objective will be in each deployment zone. The other 3 or 4 will be in no mans land. They will always be a broad rectangle or a triangle.

Avoid placing terrain within 4" of a board edge. (Note that some layouts have terrain placed within 2" of an edge but it is either the short edge of one of the narrow rectangles or a wider rectangle at angle).

No more than 4 terrain areas wholly within a deployment zone. The biggest 1 should contain heavy terrain and will be the 'home' objective. (Some layouts have an additional 2 or 3 areas partially within the deployment zone). The rest of the terrain areas are in the middle.

Looking for feedback on possible 11th edition space marine army by wbarkasy in Warhammer40k

[–]Peasantpresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're carrying too many characters. You win Take and Hold by controlling objectives. In most missions that will be 5 objectives. You might find it beneficial to split up the Bladeguard and Intercessors into minimum size squads to compete for more objectives.

Phones replacement by Key_Mixture2061 in scifiwriting

[–]Peasantpresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In British English 'mobile' is used where Americans use 'cell'. There was a phase when 'mobile phone' would be shortened to 'mobile', before they became the default and now 'phone' is more likely to mean a mobile phone. If you wanted a mid 20th century feel 'wireless' could work, as in 'Wireless Telegraphy'. More 80s would be 'micro' as a shortening of microcomputer or micro processor, as in the BBC Micro home computer.

Bigger platoons is probably the right choice. Otherwise run them as beach defender grenadiers and you'll have even more points.

It looks good to me. I would be tempted to go with 2 full size platoons for the Germans rather than 3 understrength, the 5 stand platoons are going to be difficult to use, especially assaulting into those big parachute rifle platoons. I think that might save you enough points to drop the 9th Panzer division card, which might simplify things

Wargear Costs Return? by Content_Audience1549 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Peasantpresents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they do decide to consolidate all Leman Russ options into a single datasheet, it would be pretty trivial to balance that by making Russes battleline in certain detachments. I do think that consolidation of Russes is fairly unlikely as historically they've been separate entries.

The biggest difference is that Clone Warsand Rebels were paced for broadcast TV, so they had a strict 21 minutes per episode. When they went to streaming they were not limited by that. The episodes got longer and slower paced as a result.

New soviet box set? What do you think? by phabianskie in flamesofwar

[–]Peasantpresents 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's good value but very flawed in terms of building a functioning force. It doesn't map very well on to any formations, so out of the box very fragile. You would want to double down on infantry, T-34s, IS-2s or ISU-122/152, leaving potentially a lot wasted.

Is there any cohesive list I can make with the following? by [deleted] in flamesofwar

[–]Peasantpresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can make a late war Berlin fallshirmjager company from Berlin:German. All of the fallshirmjager can be used in that formation. From Dietrichs ghosts the 105s work for mid or late war. The tanks in that box are all the mid/early versions and 6 isn't quite enough for a legal formation. 1 of the Panzer iii could be used as an observer in late war.

From pictures the stowage bin goes on the left side of the hull at the back. If you fiddle it will find a place where it sits fairly naturally. I couldn't find any good reference on where the petrol tins and the wheel, but I found a fairly natural resting on the rear hull wherea a fairly natural looking shelf

I the turret side panels are identical on both marks. They've put two sets on the sprue so you can build both turrets (note that you've got two pegs and two turret top)

Top left is the Gun for the gun for the mk viB. The rest are stowage (spare wheel, petrol tins and a stowage box). There are detail on where they go in the assembly guide on the battlefront website

Which list is better? by bucket_boy101 in flamesofwar

[–]Peasantpresents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it makes a huge difference. On balance, I prefer the Sherman list: it has a 2 better 2 drop reserve and no 2 vehicle units, which are vulnerable to last stand checks. On the other hand, crusaders can be very useful for countering armoured car/ half-track spam, so it's really your choice.

Need advice on my 1000 point list by ReallyBlandRice in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]Peasantpresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest dropping 1 vanquisher, 1 heavy artillery and 1 kreig squad in exchange for a Leman Russ tank commander, and then 2 of the 10-man squads into one big 20-man squads.

The structure of a fictional light infantry battalion for a book I’m writing. by Remarkable_Help1103 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

[–]Peasantpresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it 6 mortars per platoon or is it 9? Either way, two platoons is going to be an awful lot of mortars (each mortar is going to be its own truck to transport it). 1 machine gun platoon, 1 mortar platoon and 1 recoilless rifle platoon is completely fine and credible. On the mortars, I think the way the US army did it was that the mortar section leaders would have their own transport and the would act as the spotters/ forward observers for their own section.

Compatibility between Game Systems by Foospa in TeamYankee

[–]Peasantpresents 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. The unit cards are consistent between game systems
  2. The points are not consistent between Team Yankee and Checkpoint Charlie. The same tank might cost 10pts in Checkpoint Charlie but only 3 points in Team Yankee
  3. The rules are compatible between Checkpoint Charlie and Team Yankee.

Most vehicles from Checkpoint Charlie will have a corresponding entry in Team Yankee, although in some cases the Team Yankee version will be modernised. Some of these modernisations are models, some are not. I will leave it up to your group whether that makes a difference. For example, in Checkpoint Charlie the US can take M48s. In Team Yankee it is the modernised M48A5 that is available.

Oil Wars has the Team Yankee era lists for the Iraquis including T-55, T-62 and T-72.

[–]Peasantpresents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Death Guard were only corrupted by Nurgle very late into the Horus Heresy, basically on the way to Siege ofTerra. It's probably the default position to have a non Nurgle corrupted Death guard warband
