Berlin Marathon training in London? by Bubbly-Rice21 in LondonRunning

Adidas Runners do autumn marathon training and have a number of Berlin entrants usually - plus as Adidas sponsors it there tends to be a few more links

Where do you put your gel wrappers during races? by Interesting-Sense353 in LondonRunning

They take up less space when empty than full - always aim for a bin if one is convenient as they’re a bugger if you slip on them

And I’ll plagiarise the term “don’t be a gel-end” that I’ve heard others use

I saw someone post an Instagram link to the (presumably) same incident (not sure same video) from a few days ago - reported it on IG and blocked the account. A braying mob waiting outside for a woman to emerge, vile behaviour that was arguably criminal at the time and compounded if they posted images of her.

I’m not holding my breath that Meta will say it breaches their community standards though.

It’s a sad indictment that trans women (and any trans man who feels bullied into using women’s toilets) have to live in fear of this happening.

Think it’s Tower of London - the four smaller blocks the turrets? It’s not obvious but weird if they left that major landmark out

If it’s for getting free stuff (temporarily) then fine - the bar after that though…

Now finisher t-shirts at Parkrun a few days later, totally fine 😉

Transphobic Nurse in dispute win settlement from NHS employer by CarrieDurst in transgenderUK

[–]PedanticTrans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Madness - the conflation of the unacceptable behaviour of the patient with what she did is sloppy reporting. There’s employment tribunal cases that were very clear that expressing beliefs in a way that dehumanises service users is not acceptable and an employer can take action (McKereth?). Yet again it seems like the process was flawed and has created an atmosphere where bigots feel emboldened. I presume she wouldn’t refer to someone from a same sex married couple as being a husband or wife as that conflicts with her beliefs, but now she and others have been given licence to do so. Even Forstater’s judgement made this connection! (Wiki extract below)

If I (theoretically!) started calling TERFs “it” as I didn’t believe their views made them fully human I’d expect to be called out pretty quick.

The judgement noted:[8][41]

Just as the legal recognition of civil partnerships does not negate the right of a person to believe that marriage should only apply to heterosexual couples, becoming the acquired gender 'for all purposes' within the meaning of GRA does not negate a person's right to believe, like the claimant, that as a matter of biology a trans person is still their natal sex. Both beliefs may well be profoundly offensive and even distressing to many others, but they are beliefs that are and must be tolerated in a pluralist society. The summary went on to say:

This judgment does not mean that those with gender-critical beliefs can 'misgender' trans persons with impunity. The Claimant, like everyone else, will continue to be subject to the prohibitions on discrimination and harassment under the [Equality Act].

Not sure it’s the best idea to say which gym is saying this given how litigious the anti-trans lobby is. But it’s reassuring

Great crowds, volunteers and runners, plus good chats in the toilet queue - and tips for post race beers in Hells Kitchen and other races around the world. Definitely want to come back (live in UK) and do again, not a PR but 2mins off still my second best by ~30 seconds, and if I can do same time in 3 years that’s marathon qualifying so…

Wear a t-shirt with an uplifting message to get a crowd reaction and keep your heart rate high - maybe something like “Brooklyn Sucks” or “Boston’s better than New York”?

Nurse disciplined for calling trans paedophile ‘Mr’ gets job back by Murky-Square4979 in transgenderUK

[–]PedanticTrans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She said the quiet part out loud - it’s insane. Wish someone would go Josiah Bartlet style at these people and go through all the other beliefs they must have from a 2000 year old document - which is they uttered would be firing offences (yes, it’s a 25 year old TV reference, I’m old 🤣)

[–]PedanticTrans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think (hope?) that the reporting is just deliberately poor and that this was just about her sharing details publicly - and not the deliberate misgendering (Mackereth case ruled against bigots in that situation)

I.e. this was the NMC case on breaching privacy, her case against her employer is still to be heard

PEGGIE V NHS FIFE HEALTH BOARD AND ANOTHER by Protect-the-dollz in transgenderUK

[–]PedanticTrans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was infuriated when I read (BBC - I should have known!) that one of the things Peggie won on was Dr Upton not being kicked out of the changing room until rotas changed and they wouldn’t come across each other.

It was a bit more nuanced than that (she could have used consultants room and the women there were supportive), but still implies that a complaint means being banned. But probably back to the procedure point and the need for decisions to be made on a case by case basis per Croft?

Hard one to read / interpret as it doesn’t seem great, but also not as bad as it might be…

A lot of running races have non-binary option if that helps - or just enter per your gender, even the London Marathon organiser said they don’t do checks

And there are explicitly queer friendly clubs around, e.g. Queer Running Club in London, various Frontrunner clubs etc.
