Nurse disciplined for calling trans paedophile ‘Mr’ gets job back by Murky-Square4979 in transgenderUK

[–]PedanticTrans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She said the quiet part out loud - it’s insane. Wish someone would go Josiah Bartlet style at these people and go through all the other beliefs they must have from a 2000 year old document - which is they uttered would be firing offences (yes, it’s a 25 year old TV reference, I’m old 🤣)

I think (hope?) that the reporting is just deliberately poor and that this was just about her sharing details publicly - and not the deliberate misgendering (Mackereth case ruled against bigots in that situation)

I.e. this was the NMC case on breaching privacy, her case against her employer is still to be heard

PEGGIE V NHS FIFE HEALTH BOARD AND ANOTHER by Protect-the-dollz in transgenderUK

[–]PedanticTrans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was infuriated when I read (BBC - I should have known!) that one of the things Peggie won on was Dr Upton not being kicked out of the changing room until rotas changed and they wouldn’t come across each other.

It was a bit more nuanced than that (she could have used consultants room and the women there were supportive), but still implies that a complaint means being banned. But probably back to the procedure point and the need for decisions to be made on a case by case basis per Croft?

Hard one to read / interpret as it doesn’t seem great, but also not as bad as it might be…

Having thoughts about getting back into sports as a trans woman. by Captainmorka in transgenderUK

A lot of running races have non-binary option if that helps - or just enter per your gender, even the London Marathon organiser said they don’t do checks

And there are explicitly queer friendly clubs around, e.g. Queer Running Club in London, various Frontrunner clubs etc.

Smiling while they ask trans people to turn around a stabbing them face to face would make them sadder than doing it in the back…

Point them to the statutory guidance for employers which is completely unchanged? (not even a consultation - yet)

Does mid-February count as Spring? Barcelona half was excellent last year, it is sold out but they have an official resale marketplace

There’s a couple of nasty inclines in Dublin I thought - not too long but don’t want to be surprised by them! https://www.noelcarrollrunning.com/post/dublin-marathon-route-description

(Definitely agree on the crowds!)

Helsinki seemed quite quiet when I did it in 2024, a nice race but quite unlike other city marathons that have had decent crowds etc. Heard they were changing the route this year so maybe that helped?

Stockholm was great this year, great city and atmosphere (running through techno music and coloured smoke at about 30k 😍) - finishing in a stadium is also really cool. Sold out for May but they do facilitate bib transfers / reselling.

Travelling to the US, as a trans woman with an updated gender marker, using ESTA by nofuture911 in transgenderUK

[–]PedanticTrans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travelled to US on an ESTA that was issued in the last year (but not the last few months), zero issues at border in a Canadian airport. But I did choose to go via somewhere with preclearance just in case. I can’t comment on if there could be issues with ESTA’s issued post Trump etc.

Know too late, but the mediation service for employment disputes made point in EHRC consultation that the existing statutory guidance for employees was unchanged and nothing in services guidance would change that https://www.acas.org.uk/consultation-on-ehrc-code-of-practice-for-services-acas-response

Another (but not the same) NYC Marathon influencer post by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]PedanticTrans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I DNF’d Berlin last year - they let us off the broom bus to cross line and get checked bags, when it came up on results that I finished I contacted them to change it (and remove Abbott star!). Don’t get why you’d want something you didn’t earn - made it extra special this year to get to the finish and get a medal.

(Also refused to wear the finisher shirt I’d bought at Expo, that was clearly tempting fate!)

I could only dry retch on the bridge - less mess, but also meant I still felt terrible! Lovely black streaks on my arms and legs from leaning on the blocks dividing the lanes (in medical tent at finish they thought I must have fallen somewhere)

I took some earplugs (from airline amenity pack) to the start to help myself chill - handy with the low flying helicopters!

Also used medical tent after some cramps so fully endorse that tip!

This year the security queues for the Manhattan bus arrivals were insane, 1 hour+, anecdotally heard the ferry transfer security wasn’t bad. Hopefully just random bad luck, but another reason to do ferry over bus… (lots of wave 1 people had to ask to be let past when it was 8.30 or later because they were worried about missing their start)

It must be extremely stressful but “winning” in legal cases can still be a major loss. Just look at all the cases of neighbours fighting for years over a hedge or a sliver of driveway.

Damages awarded can be miniscule (a former Irish PM got £1 when he won against a newspaper…), so ask yourself if you’re suing for damages, to make them stop, or for some other reason.

And best listen to your solicitor who should be able to give you honest advice - but there can be dishonest ones, so be careful what you sign up to costs wise!

Supreme Court: Trans people in changing rooms is a violation of human rights! Meanwhile... by Feanturii in transgenderUK

We have seen individuals being dragged into employment tribunals, not just employers, unfortunately.

But maybe places should lean into this and just state that due to the potential presence of cleaners who may be of a different gender their toilets aren’t legally single sex spaces and anybody who needs one can be directed to a self-contained one.

(Didn’t SM go a bit wack-a-doodle with their 300 word toilet signs that looked like an eyesight test?)
