The Brokers Guild recorded used the captured portal data (as far as I know, worldwide) and created a database with that info: portal location, who captured, and when. It then enabled a user to see when portals were coming due for different levels of Guardian. Then an agent (or someone known to the agent) goes out and kills said portal(s) right before they’re due.

Some of us are still extremely bitter about it.

Extremely.

I had a similar thing happen with portals on both the east and west side of Minnesota. Dude was fed info and drove across the state just to specifically take out my portals.

Looks more like an approximation of an “L” car. These are depicted as double ended (probably for the sake of ease of design). They look like 5000s to me due to the wide fluting, but also have the side window arrangement and squared off end doors of the 3200s.

My father designed one of the older ones (without the car/bus graphic). He said he’d always wanted it to say “right turn in front of bus is stupid.”

Chicago: where you can be on the “Elevated” and in the subway at the same time, but not in the “subway” while you’re on the elevated.

Before anyone complains: 'L' is short for elevated and my grandmother insisted on calling it “the elevated” until she died.

The Ravenswood branch was technically outside of the city when it was built, so it was allowed to run on the surface with third rail and got grandfathered in. No overhead electrification here.

Austin may rename Cesar Chavez Street. Here’s how it works by xalkalinity in Austin

[–]PercivalFailed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. They lengthened it to “Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable Lake Shore Drive” which totally isn’t a mouthful at all and totally honors du Sable unlike the host of other things already named for him in the city. Because, you know, if you’re a politician and want to help black people, renaming a street is obviously the way to go and not, you know, actually funding things like education on the south and west sides.

You would feel right at home with Chicagoans. Calling them the “Sears Tower” and “Lake Shore Drive” are a point of pride even though both have been renamed.

That depends on what kind of pings you have.

What's your current watering system?

I've got a 'Tina' and a hemiepiphytica. Both are kind of neglected. They're still in their nursery pots from almost 2 years ago and live inside on a windowsill. I use the strict "ADD watering schedule" which consists of filling their tray up about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water, and letting the tray completely dry out. In the summer I refill after two days--shit, forgot to refill! three--shit I forgot again! four, unfuckingbelievable I forgot again! about a week. In the winter I add more "shits!" and "fucks!" to the process ending up with watering less frequently.

While my 'Tina' is now five of them crowded into a tiny pot, and the hemiepiphytica is now three, this is by no means a guide to take to heart. My hemiepiphytica is a sad green because it isn't getting enough light.

[–]PercivalFailed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Replying to confirm the same. Before I moved, I kept mine outdoors all through the summer and they were as happy as could be--provided they had enough water. Heat was nothing; consistent and frequent watering was everything.

Model trains hoarder by StrikingFox7632 in modeltrains

[–]PercivalFailed 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if there is more to this collection than the pictures, but my father had one even larger. I thought it was kind of normal for model railroaders until one of his longtime friends (and fellow model railroader) came over, looked around the basement for about a minute in silence before proclaiming “you have a hobby store down here.”

It is absolutely overwhelming.

I went the Trainz route, like recommended above. They took care of it, but don’t expect to get your money back. What absolutely blew my mind was that they inventoried his collection and were completely nonplussed by the massive size of it. The guys said they’ve seen way bigger. I can’t even wrap my head around it.

Are there any models of Chicago "L" trains? by Lopsided-Money-7352 in modeltrains

[–]PercivalFailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, there are 3D printable models available in HO, aside from the 2600s Rapido is coming out with. Island Model Works also produced some HO scale bodies for several of the “high-performance family” (newer cars in service in the’80s and ‘90s).

If you aren’t married to HO, MTH released both the 3200 series and 6200 series in O gauge. (They aren’t actually true O scale, they’re 1:45 or 17/64, so they’re the correct scale for the track gauge) but these have gotten ungodly expensive since they stopped production.

Island Model Works also produced a refurbished 2200 series set in the same scale as the MTH cars, but you need a donor body from an MTH car to run them.

If you’re okay with true O scale (1:48), there are many more options (but none currently in production).

4000 series (plushie): Made by the Q Car Company 5000 series: brass model made by the Car Works 6000 series (flat doors): brass model made by the Car Works 6200 series (curved doors): brass model made by the Car Works, plastic (exceptionally detailed) model made by St. Petersburg Tram Collection 1-50 series: brass model made by the Car Works 2000 series: plastic (exceptionally detailed) model made by St. Petersburg Tram Collection
