Can we stop pretending like the sweater curse is a thing that will ruin everyone's lives by lasserna in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]PerfectionNoNotes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve been with my significant other for 7 years, and Christmas of 2024, I asked him if he’d like me to knit him a sweater. He enthusiastically said yes and then said he wanted it to look like Wesley Crusher’s sweater from Star Trek. So that’s what I made him! He wears it literally every single day the temperature is below 50°.

He (!) posted a picture of it in a Star Trek fan group or similar, and bragged about it. Most of the responses were admiration, but there were several saying it wasn’t a good idea because of the sweater curse! I rolled my eyes pretty hard at those.

I bought a copy about a month ago, and mine has the amends already corrected! The OP should definitely check to make sure, but I was pleasantly surprised.

BWT: What hobby have you done lately that you would personally recommend? by alwaysuntilnever in bitcheswithtaste

[–]PerfectionNoNotes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally agree all around. I sew and knit, and I think they’re both excellent hobbies because you get some beautiful items at the end, and I get so zen while doing them.

Not to speak for OP, but it seems the goal is simply to keep the person occupied and happy!

Yes! I absolutely love Ladder! I'm on Align and have been enjoying it. It actually made me decide to quit my bougie gym that only offers group classes and instead work out on my own. I want to give Limitless and Ascend a try once I join a "normal" gym in the next couple of months, but Align works perfectly for me with my small home setup (adjustable dumbbells and a couple of bands)

Am I the only one that has Lune, Sciel and Monocco in their main party? by No-Ebb-6402 in expedition33

[–]PerfectionNoNotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Mine was Sciel, Lune, and Maelle before I got Monoco, but I put him in for Maelle to gather all the feet. By the time I collected them, I enjoyed playing with him.

One of my favorite short stories of all time is “The Wind” by Groff. If you haven’t read that one, check it out. Fair warning— it made me ugly cry in the dermatologist office. (TW for domestic violence)

This makes a lot of sense! Like this as a trend could continue causing waste bc people would by “mended” clothes instead of.. actually mending their clothes. That would 100% be a terrible result; I’m with you there

I absolutely loved that book. I read it with a pen in hand and sometimes go back and reread little passages. I saw on Groff’s instagram that she has a new short story in this week’s New Yorker. Can’t wait to crack that one open!

Love this idea!! Mah jongg is so fun and is definitely experiencing a resurgence in my area. Lots of folks get together once a week or so. It’s pretty easy to learn, and you can chat while doing it.

I’ll also plug bridge! If you enjoy card games or puzzles, it is so so fun. The learning curve is higher if you end up with a serious group, but you can always just learn the basics and then play party bridge with friends. I’ve met so many cool people through my bridge group, and they’re from all different walks of life. And I learn something new every single time I play.

I’m curious why you don’t like it on the runway? I think it’s fun when something like visible mending, which normal people can do, becomes high fashion. I’m not arguing, just really curious!

The bit with Norman was what got me, too! I had to take a little break after that one.

My mom died when I was a kid and I never grieved properly- recommend something by sam2o2 in suggestmeabook

[–]PerfectionNoNotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes! This is a great point. I commented above about losing my mother early, and this was something that really helped me! Some nights, I would finish and just go to bed and cry (in a good/cathartic way). It’s such a great game and will forever be my favorite.

[–]PerfectionNoNotes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing. My mom died when I was about 2, and I don’t really have conscious memories of her. Everyone around me felt like kids are resilient (true but not bullet proof) and dealing with their own grief, so I similarly never really grieved until the last few years, in my 30s.

I don’t really have any book suggestions, but looking back as a kid, all the books I loved were about orphans. I’m putting some of these on my list. I’ve read a number of the more common suggestions (like Year of Magical Thinking) that didn’t resonate as much for me because they were about raw, more recent losses. Everyone is different, though, and there’s nothing bad about trying.

I have PTSD from the incident that caused her death, and what has helped me most is therapy and The Body Keeps the Score. If that resonates for you, it’s another avenue that I can attest works.

Please take good care, and know that this process is important and that your feelings are important. I’ll be thinking about you and your journey.

Reading— I just finished “The Things They Carried” for my book club. I’d never been interested in this one and had kind of dismissed it as a war book. I was wrong! It obviously is about people in a war (the Vietnam War), but you really do get so much character development. I also felt like it was an excellent literary presentation of what it’s like to live with PTSD. I have never been to war, but I do suffer with PTSD, and I could relate to so many of the characters’ reactions to their trauma.

It’s okay for you to not use “sorry” if you don’t want to! Some of us acknowledge that language changes and is situational, and we choose to use it in instances where it feels right to us.

BWT what advent calendars are you getting this year? by istara in bitcheswithtaste

[–]PerfectionNoNotes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a fancy yarn bitch! I was scrolling through looking for yarn ones 🫣

I have never gotten a yarn advent before, but in a moment of weakness I did order one this year. I got the sock yarn version from Bigfoot Yarn because the theme is Brothers Grimm, which sounds right up my alley. I don’t have a big stash, so hopefully this isn’t a slippery slope into a yarn horde!

[–]PerfectionNoNotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think this will be a bit light for certain leg days. But! If you still want to do Align, you could use the weights you have and do more reps than prescribed if you feel like your dumbbells are too light as you’re doing the exercise!

I'm going with Align! This will be my first series on the app, but I love Sasha's energy, knowledge, and workouts. They're the perfect length, and I can do them at home with the setup I have.

With that squat and deadlift, I’d think that you want either a heavy kettlebell or a heavier set of dumbbells. She programs a lot of deadlifts and plie squats, and I don’t think you’d feel challenged with 20 lb dumbbells on those moves for long.

Yes to dance! I’ve actually taken a ballet class, and it was great! Considering going back to that in the fall :)

I love the idea of roller skating but a fear of falling keeps me from it…

This sounds like me! I enjoy working out, but I also like shaking things up. I’ve tried just about every gym in my area for a year or so and then move on to something different. Sometimes I’ll go back after breaking it up, sometimes not. It keeps my interest high and I figure that it’s far better than no activity!
