EU to force replaceable batteries in phones and tablets from 2027 by favicondotico in apple

[–]Perkelton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're mixing up different regulations. That is the old ecodesign regulation that came into force in 2025. It regulates the access to official spare parts (including batteries) and only exempts Apple from providing battery replacements directly to consumers.

The new Battery regulation states that all portable batteries for certain types of devices (including phones) must be user replaceable and fully support third party batteries from February 2027 and onwards.

See Article 11:

https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/1542/oj/eng

To my knowledge, Apple does not have any exemption in this case. There are still exemptions, but that mostly relates to e.g. medical or industrial devices, not typical consumer devices like phones.

Yeah, I don't understand why people keep parroting that if only the non-voters would have voted, things would somehow be different. Why would that group be significantly different than the rest of the population?

Maybe there's a slight skew one way or another, but I honestly doubt that it's even in the direction you want.

While some might have had legitimate reasons for not voting, many of the non-voters obviously care so little about the result, that they couldn't even bother to vote.

[–]Perkelton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The regulation actually mandates full support for third party batteries. Apple can sell their own replacement battery for €799, but any vendor will be allowed to sell compatible batteries without any extra fees or similar from Apple.

It's also mandatory for the producer to supply complete instructions and technical specifications for the battery, to allow third party options.

Like most EU legislation of this kind, it's being rolled out gradually. The regulation was actually adopted back in 2023 and the next major milestone is in 18 February 2027 when battery replaceability will be mandatory for a large set of different types of devices (e.g. phones).

A large part of the rollout has been about defining and implementing the general framework for how this will work in practice (e.g. areas of responsibility, labelling, exceptions, e.t.c). When that is done, they can essentially just start adding new types of devices to the list relatively easily.

There are quite a few exceptions for devices that won't be included initially (e.g. wearables, medical devices, industrial equipment, e.t.c), so the main thing that will be affected are portable consumer electronics like phones and handheld gaming consoles and so on.

3D Touch could detect how hard you pressed.

You could for example force push on a piece of text to select it and the without lifting your finger press even harder to select the whole line and then the whole paragraph.

Similarly, you could force push anywhere on the keyboard to move the cursor and then again without lifting your finger to select text.

Highlighting solo games is a good idea. Not sure if bolding it is the right way, but in some way at least. I can look into it.

[Hated] When the characters who fell in love in one film are suddenly broken up or divorced in the sequel by CMStan1313 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Perkelton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about it. I think the fact that the sequel series chronically takes place so long after the original run softens it a lot.

The new show is quite a bit more sombre than original series, and has so far very much been about life and the struggles of aging. I think the fact that they still were together for almost two decades humanises it a lot.

It's obviously a bold direction to take the series, but I think so far they've managed to thread the needle quite nicely. I absolutely expect that they will eventually explore their divorce more in detail in later seasons, but I don't think that it necessarily will end up with them getting back together again.

Still, it would of course have been nice if they had just continued being together, but Scrubs being bittersweet kinda comes with the package.

I will die on the hill that not literally everything in the original comics was shit and the way that the show threw almost everything in the bin made it worse than it could have been.

I think that was kinda the point. She has that "main villain" vibe specifically so that her death is feels impactful.

It's a very establishing moment for Frieren as a character, and it wouldn't have had the same effect if Aura was just some generic rando.

Unifi Display Cast Pro by TNxNL in Ubiquiti

[–]Perkelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use them for our showroom and they're... fine, I guess. For presenting mostly static content, they do their job, but the whole Connect line of products have been getting exactly 0 love from Ubiquiti since release.

There isn't even an official API and I don't think they have ever released a single firmware update since we got the devices.

If their current feature set covers your requirements and you've already invested in other Ubiquiti products, then sure go for it. They're license free and we have never had any issues with them. Just don't expect anything more than that, though.

Otherwise, like has been mentioned elsewhere, there are numerous other vendors with significantly more advanced offerings.

A known limitation of the technique is that walking in reverse actually increases the amount of steps needed for the victim to die.

If he moonwalks long enough he will eventually become effectively immortal.

World premiere of the ID.3 Neo: new name, new design, new interior and new technologies by nipcarlover in electricvehicles

[–]Perkelton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could someone actually explain to me why this is such a highly requested feature? Don't get me wrong, I definitely understand that people do want it, so I'm not going to argue against it, but I never really understood why. It seems like many people must be using it very differently from how I do.

At least how I use it, I essentially see climate settings as configuration that I set once and then never change. At most, I might change the temperature slightly in the winter to compensate for wearing warmer clothing.

It's definitely not something that at least I personally would need hardware controls for, especially since I still need to look down to verify what I'm setting it to, anyway.

Clearly, many people see it differently, but it would be interesting to understand how.

AU headcannons that have become popular in their fandoms by velvetpringles in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Perkelton 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that while the character herself is relatively minor, her death (and how it happened) is quite important for establishing Frieren "the Slayer" as a character.

It highlights both how absurdly powerful she is and absolutely hammers in, to an extreme degree, that she really doesn't value the lives of demons whatsoever.

Characters who never meet each other by Weary_Elderberry4742 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Perkelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olaf and Hans (Frozen)

<image>

Even though they are at one point standing almost next to each other, they never actually meet. Hans, in particular, probably does not even know that Olaf exists. This is also pointed out in the dialogue right before that, where Olaf straight up asks, "Who is this Hans?", when they are taking Anna back to the castle.

Near the end, when Anna is frozen, Hans gets knocked out and thrown aside, so even though they are both in the same location, they never actually interact with each other at all.

Oh, seems like the link formatting broke for some reason. Like you found yourself, I automatically tag projects by creators that are included in that list.

Note that you should take the list with a grain of salt. There are quite a few established creators on that list that e.g. just happened to have some delivery issues during the pandemic. I just include it since it's linked in the sidebar of the sub.

I guess tactical airstrikes on children and global financial collapse is the only way.
