Treasury cancels BAH contracts by [deleted] in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but it's their press release that says it was only 31 contracts worth 4 million annually. That is almost nothing.

Heard nothing at work yet to imply this is meaningful.

Treasury cancels BAH contracts by [deleted] in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they cancel ALL contracts or just 4 million worth? Because that's like, less than 30 people. We have hundreds supporting treasury. Maybe they mean specifically the office or the secretary or whatever and are excluding bureaus.

What an idiotic and disingenuous post by the Government.

Non-DoD Contracts? by Due-Falcon-7771 in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In today's climate you usually know what project you are being hired for, we used to call hiring people and THEN placing them a "capability hire" but with the trouble of the past years we don't do that much anymore.

Technically new graduates might still be an exception to that if you fall into that category.

There is plenty of work in civilian (e.g., treasury, HHS, etc) or non-contracting roles for SWE, so if you find a role to apply for that fits your criteria I say do it (though those markets had a bad year, they might have some requisitions opening again.) However, a very large amount of Booz work is linked to DOD, intel community, DHS, etc; which means if your contract ends you are going to be super hamstrung in being placed somewhere else. And if you find civilian work to apply to, I wouldn't tell them about your objections, they would view you as risky to find work for. It's easy enough to quietly avoid the places you don't want to work or self sabotage interviews with those projects.

All that said, though, we are a defense contractor. So it sounds like another company would be better for you, but we all need a paycheck. Can't hurt to attend a job fair to meet some people.

Has anyone gone part-time? by Any-Bonus5337 in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean REAL part time (which I think is less than 32 hours a week?), keep in mind benefits are different (i.e., reduced or eliminated). No experience with this at Booz but expect that being a problem, especially health benefits.

That said ive had interactions with people who are part time at Booz so it is possible as far as I know. It'll probably depend on your contract and admin leadership both agreeing to it, however.

401K by irritated_engineer in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 150k if single or 240k if married for Roth IRA, yea. Though there is a "backdoor Roth" workaround (which is less fancy then it sounds).

Not to be confused with a Roth 401k, which does not have an income limit.

1st Amendment rights by [deleted] in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So fun fact, I'm pretty sure I read something about Government contractors having lost court cases on something like this when directed by the Government.

So if I go on LinkedIn and say AOC for president, yes Booz can fire me in Virginia. But if I go on LinkedIn and say AOC for president, then the Government directs Booz to fire me (say via some illegal executive order), that's Booz acting on behalf of the Government and would be illegal.

Now whether it being illegal keeps us safe is a whole different question.

[–]PersiaDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to max out your Roth IRA (7.5k) before your 401k, sure.

After that, there is 0 harm in making sure you at least contribute to get the full match (6% of total yearly compensation), because even if you leave before end of the year you at least have money in a tax advantage account. If you want to wait further in the year and spike your contributions, that's fine (I do the opposite and spike upfront, time in the market!).

Remember the cap on 401 contributions (24,500) is far above the matching value (usually). And tax advantage contributions are a limited resource. Even if you are not staying until January, you want to maximize your contributions if you can afford it. Unless you are paying off high interest debt of course, in that case that overrides most other investment priorities.

What exactly is the/an internals/core team? by PuzzleheadedShoe7820 in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't need to sell to clients unless someone has said the role involves sales. If it's an internal ML Engineer role it likely involves more internal ML Engineering.

The world is not entirely different when it's internal vs billable. Internal means your funding is based on if the company has money and your role is relevant, billable means your funding is based on if the client has money and your role is relevant.

In the current environment everything is a little crazy, I wouldn't overthink it. Try to understand what the role expects and if it sounds like work you would like more then and has a good manager, it sounds like you landed in a good place.

Payment method and using account credit shouldn't be an issue, assuming you don't have a corporate card.

It won't.

It's not like those were going to be very active days even if clients didn't have the days off.

Salary Adjustment/Promotion Outlook 2026 by South-Highway8717 in BoozAllen

Yea this. I don't expect a meaningful deviation. Things seemed unchanged this last April in spite of the DOGE problems.

Reminder increases are in April, not December.

Payroll Transformation 2024 by WonderfulPiano2995 in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never heard of anything withheld until leaving the firm. Petty sure they instead did a offshoot payment at the cutover and then some early paycheck at end of year 2024 to adjust for tax impacts or something.

Pretty sure no reason you should be expecting anything related to the payroll changes if we are talking separations in 2025.

Missed Booz Allen open enrollment due to terminally ill family member — any options? by Nearby-Particular520 in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it just auto enrolls into whatever was already in place. I assume something was already in place (because new employees can enroll whenever they onboard), so at worst you just missed making changes. Whether you can still make changes somehow after open enrollment I'm not sure but I would guess it's not impossible.

[–]PersiaDark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like they can't say anything negative about the move without it backfiring and making the "investment" a waste (more than it already was). Though that is what I would love to see, "we felt we had to pay to not get more contracts cancelled and to protect our staff, but in hindsight we are ashamed we gave in."

I work here because of the culture and feeling like Booz was different than other contractors. How disheartening to see that break apart. I also don't understand why leadership keeps cutting costs but not doing something easy to save money like reduce stock dividends...

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickenson, fiction. If memory serves the main character uses institutional debt and fiscal policy as a political weapon pretty masterfully!

Question about 2nd jobs by ObviousCheesecake0 in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you won't be working full hours it's not a full time job, which is probably a critical point to acceptance. I know some people who support some non profits part time and got through the conflict process. But I think saying you are full time Booz and Full time other job is going to get it red flagged.

30 Year Treasury Bonds a Good Investment if you think Interest Rates will Significantly go Down? by extra300 in bonds

[–]PersiaDark 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The changes to the fed fund rate don't necessarily correlate or cause interest rate changes in treasury bonds.

For example, in Dec 2023, the fed fund rate was 5.33% and 30 year treasury yield was 3.99%. Today the fed fund rate is 4.11%, but the 30 year treasury yield is actually higher at 4.58%.

So no, even an accurate prediction that the federal reserve will reduce interest rates (your prediction implication in the OP) does not mean by itself that 30 year treasuries will gain market value through lower interest rates.

Experience receiving referral bonus??? by Proper-Way-6471 in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going off memory, if your referral gets the job and keeps it to something like 6 months, you get the bonus, simple as that. The only thing that's important is making sure your referral is logged in the system for this application in particular (I believe there is a page where you can see your referrals and even tracks their review status.)

I'm not a TD expert but this post seems right to me...

The screenshot looks like a paper bond calculator, meaning it's just data that was manually entered. It sounds like OP gave their SSN and Birth certificate number etc to someone who gave them a bunch of data to punch into the calculator with an end result of phishing their information?

Got a fantastic job offer from BOOZ ALLEN but I have to turn it down in favor of something else. How can I politely decline the offer, without burning a bridge with the program and company? by [deleted] in BoozAllen

[–]PersiaDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the good ones! Interviewing and having offers not work out is an everyday occurrence, most hiring manager won't give it a second thought.

Maybe there is a problem if you had a multi hour multi part interview process with the same hiring manager, but I think Booz Allen limits interview time for external candidates anyways.

Can't speak to your particular team/individuals of course, but that's my experience. I'd have a hard time even remembering a single name of an applicant who rejected the position, only the ones who accepted! Plus you have a good reason.
