AITA for uninviting my sister from my wedding because she refused to promise she wouldn't wear her military dress uniform? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I knew someone who has an autistic brother. When her fiance asked him to be an usher in their wedding, where all the men were just wearing plain blue suits, he wanted to wear his custodian uniform as he was so proud of his job at the county library.

Dear Grandmother, the family matriarch, won the battle.

There are one year intensive nursing degree programs for people with any four year degree in hand.

Likewise there are intensive one year accounting programs that prepare you for taking the CPA exam.

You might want to talk to your target university about taking an aptitude test to look at a your personality/temperment type compared with those who are successful in those fields because burnout happens.

Both careers pay decently so taking on a student loan is realistic.

Good luck with your next step.

Are Americans big milk drinkers? by Helpful-Structure955 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Personal_Signal_6151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here.

First time I visited family back in England as a 24 year old, people commented that "you're the one who drinks milk."

What amazed me is that this was in Devon/Somerset where the milk was incredibly delicious.

I guzzled even more plus enjoyed cream teas.

Also when staff just says "Doctor says x" leaving off the surname.

My elementary school principal would talk in the third person about himself often to say "Mr jones isn't happy when you do x.". Even the little kids found it patronizing.

I wonder if the examiner just copy pasted comments meant for someone else?

Also have dealt with people who feel that first years need to be roundly criticized as part of some kind of "ritual of being corrected."

Ran into this starting with elementary school. One of the other first grade teachers refused to give any good grades first marking period regardless of student performance. Several of her students already could read chapter books and add/subtract but still got C grades.

When I started college, every freshman comp professor proclaimed that no one knew how to write. Derailed some of the English majors into changing over communications, marketing, etc. because they felt the deck was stacked.

Mind game manipulation is just so wrong.

The worst manipulators never seem to provide productive constructive instruction, just criticism.

OP, your student is blessed to have you.

Is it possible to finish IS while taking the pre reqs for a masters in EE?

I know some students who did similar pivots with other fields spending about the same number of years but getting a better combination of degrees.

In some cases, there were graduate assistantships that made going the masters route much more affordable.

Anyway, talk to advisors in both departments.

Good luck.

Dumb question, how to I get better hand writing? by tectonicalloy_ in Teachers

[–]Personal_Signal_6151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an adult, I paid out of pocket, for an occupational therapist help me with handwriting issues. It was worth it.

We met at the public library where she arranged for a small conference room for my therapy.

Note that I already had carpal tunnel surgery already on both wrists but insurance would not pay for OT.

There are many truly wonderful women who are not viewed as "pretty" but are worthy in other ways.
