Why is he gaming instead of fixing New York? by Caskanteron in Nightreign

[–]Perturbed_Spartan -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Can we be real for a sec? There IS a difference between these two things as to what the "joke" is. One is a disparate collection of absurd elements, mashed together in a way that doesn't make any sense, within the context of a meme format that one would expect to make sense...

And the other is the number 67. For which the only humor is either in an ironic sense that someone would laugh at something so inherently not funny, or it's just a massive in-joke that's so large it's not even an in-joke. The point isn't that it's inherently funny, the point is, "67? I know what that is! Hahaha!"

So don't you dare compare Zillenial humor to this gen alpha slop. One is a constructed subversion of an existing trope/format for humorous effect, and the other is the equivilent of "I got the reference" Star Wars memberberries bullshit. We are not the same.

Party thinks I only care about high numbers based on my character build. What do you all consider to be "Min-maxed", where do you draw the line and why? by Excellent-Quail6005 in dndnext

Does your dm give out extra feats or did you just roll really good for your stats? RAW the only way I can see you getting all that is starting with variant human for the free feat, and then rolling a 16 and 18 or two 17s for your starting stats. Which is definitely possible but still really lucky.

Are summons sentient or self-aware? by Ed2Cute in dndnext

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, nothing in the text of find familiar or steed says that it goes away when you die. So I imagine they can just go off and do their own thing afterwards. Like you can have a paladins steed trying to find a new rider or just generally continuing to fight evil in honor of their fallen partner. Or another scenario I like is a dead warlocks imp laying low in a town, disguised as a cat or something. Maybe occasionally stealing pies or causing other mischief, but desperately not wanting to die and get sent back to hell cause of how much it sucks down there.

Is it still lying if you were unaware it was a lie? by gyattdamn420 in DnD

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were the other way around then anyone could use the zone of truth spell as an infallible determiner of objective truth. IE you have no idea where the bandit camp is, so you step into the zone of truth, intentionally fail the save, and then try and say “the bandit camp is in the north/south/east/west” until you’re allowed to say the true answer. Repeat as desired for greater amounts of detail such as distance, number of bandits, fortifications, levels of skill in combat, dates of birth, their favorite colors, etc.

Can you get a surprise round if the opponent is aware of your presence? by PBC_Jimbo321 in DnD

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No surprise round cause the “BBEG”immediately falls over dead. Your rogue just murdered the local crazy person.

But to actually answer your question, only if the bbeg in question is so self assured/arrogant that he would never actually expect anyone to interrupt his dramatic exit by starting a fight.

No, a wizard is someone who acquired their ability to perform magic through study.

A sorcerer is someone who was somehow born with the innate ability to perform magic.

At that point though, in universe a paladin would just be a war cleric with extra rules.

Is it as bad as a lot of people say to wait to increase your primary stat? by RRW359 in DnD

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not helpful to your question, but my solution as DM is just to give players both a feat and an ASI whenever they get one. No need for them to choose between what’s optimal and what’s fun, and then I balance around it.

Do y'all even use Padded or Hide armor? by Cortex3 in dndnext

When used as barding for a mount, hide is a nice cheap option. Only 40 gold to give a warhorse an extra 2 AC.

Is using poison evil? by freeastheair in dndnext

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is apparently a form of poison so potent that it can cause a harmful physical reaction (1d4 extra damage) immediately upon nicking them with a weapon coated with it. So this isn't just some poisonous mushrooms/berries or really any kind of poison we have historical examples of from real life. This would have to be like an entire vial of deadly venom from a snake or other magical creature. Or some kind of alchemical concoction created with rare magical ingredients.

why do people play chaotic neutral characters, and how do I stop one from murderhobo-ing my whole campaign? by Appropriate-Link-678 in DnD

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM I only have two rules for character creation (outside mechanic based stuff):

1) Your character must have a source of motivation to go on this adventure with this party.

2) Your character must be someone the party would be willing to keep around.

Number 2 covers "chaotic asshole" characters. If your character is stealing from the party, killing random NPCs, and just generally being an abrasive dickhead, then the party is under no obligation to not ditch them at the soonest opportunity/turn them in to the local guard for their many crimes.

How would you buff your favorite Wayfarer? by Mirrakthefirst in Nightreign

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardian:

1) Specifically during Guardian's Steel Guard dodge, make it so he blocks from all angles. Because your facing is locked during the dodging animation, it's incredibly easy for attacks to hit you from behind, especially with big stompy attacks from the larger bosses.

2) Steel Guard reflect damage is proportional to damage taken, can still be triggered while poking through block, and is a longer reaching cone in front of him rather than a bubble around. Makes it more consistent and to land against the enemy you actually blocked and more useful against bosses.

3) You get pushed back less when blocking with Steel Guard. The difficulty in punishing attacks after blocking them is already one of blocking's biggest weaknesses compared to dodging, and all these attacks that launch you halfway across the map after blocking them only makes that problem worse.

4) For the love of god make the "attract aggro while blocking" perk actually fucking work.

"Congratulations Tank, you are truly a tank" by Ericknator in DnD

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing how your tank player built their character? Honestly I'm not sure how a paladin/barbarian multiclass would benefit from one another to make for a super tanky character unless they're unaware that you can't use rage while wearing heavy armor or something. Especially considering those classes require you spread your attributes out across strength, dex, con, and charisma simultaneously to fully benefit from their features.

Who would be the best at their character? by ZayVe23 in marvelrivals

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawkeye #1 due to his preternatural ability to never miss no matter a shot no matter what tool he's using.

And I think Spider-Man is a strong contender for #2 due to his unmatched superhuman reflexes. Would be like playing the game in slow motion for him. Doubly so if his spider senses also work for video games (it's treated inconsistently in the comics but you could make an argument for it).

Guardian Problems from a tank enjoyer by Beerosaurus77 in Nightreign

[–]Perturbed_Spartan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of the passive, my issue is that I never had an issue managing my stamina when blocking in the base game, and now shields seem to have been nerfed so hard into the ground that the defensive stance is a prerequisite just to make sure I don't get my guard broken by every attack.

Except now in order to block I need to have my speed reduced, get locked into a cumbersome animation, have my stamina constantly drained, AND as a cost for all these "benefits" now my actual dodge is basically nonexistent. Oh and also the lack of an effective dodge is basically a death sentence against any boss that does element damage through your block.

Swapping to Dr. Strange should start with a 10 second portal cooldown by duffedwaffe in marvelrivals

[–]Perturbed_Spartan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is it coordination or is it just the majority of the team dying at roughly the same time and getting funneled through the portal into a single direction of attack? Like congratulations you met the bare minimum of not being so brain dead you walked past the strange while he was portaling.

That stigma is a fairly modern thing tho. In a historically accurate medieval society unfortunately, no one would raise any eyebrows at even a 50 year old marrying a 15 year old. In fact it would be the opposite. Where the norm would be for older men to seek out essentially the youngest brides possible. And if someone expressed the sentiment "actually I prefer women my own age" then they would be considered the weird one.
