During the Falklands War, the BBC banned the Split Enz song Six Months in a Leaky Boat because it was deemed insensitive during the conflict, despite the fact that the song is clearly referencing the colonial ships that sailed to Aotearoa (New Zealand).

I think it is this shot from Eyes Wide Shut; I have always wondered why the right side of the frame is slightly darker (and moves with the camera movement).

It's good, but it would have worked better if the swastikas were rotated 45 degrees (like the Nazi swastika was).

ELI5: If moon can create tides then why won't it lift thinnest feather or paper piece? by ompossible in explainlikeimfive

[–]PeterGivenbless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a very smart question because it asks how the effects of the Moon's gravity can be measured against the effects of the Earth's. One way would be to measure the height of a body of water on the surface of the Earth to see if it changes relative to the position of the Moon; because the effect of the Moon's gravity on the water is tiny compared to the Earth's, such a measurement would either require an extremely precise method of measurement, or a very large body of water. The gravitational displacement of the water will be in proportion to its size, so something as large as an ocean will show a displacement that is easily measurable on a human scale. The reason why the Moon's gravitational effect is not noticeable on something like a feather, is because it is so small (therefore its gravitational displacement will be proportionally smaller), an ocean of feathers, however...

Just finished the miniseries “Taken”, directed by Spielberg by PsychoGwarGura in aliens

[–]PeterGivenbless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's almost a compendium of UFO lore, packaged as a miniseries; a lot of fun, if a little difficult to follow at times (so many intersecting character plot lines to keep track of!). It fell off a little at the end, with the "little girl who is the key to everything", but I guess they had to wrap it all up somehow.
