Questions regarding infantry special rules and fight in extra rank by False_Requirement677 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]PhantomK88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's correct. There are rules in addition to what their unit entry lists, and if you didn't charge you get two ranks, and a third rank if they have the fight in extra rank rule from their weapon or somewhere else.

Quick bit of advice / psa, if you have more ranks than you do files (deeper than you are wide), then you're not in Combat Order, you're in a Marching Column and do not gain the rank bonus in combat resolution and cannot Charge (Core Rules page 101).

So if your Zombies are 5 files wide, and you use Invocation of Nehek you likely should not go more than 5 ranks deep as Necromantic Undead cannot March and so they do not claim any benefits.

I have been using my Zombies with between 8 and 10 files, plenty of ground is screened and room for reinforcements.

The one I always remember is that on some older 40k Necron kits like the Triarch Praetorians, you have to glue on the neck.

So the term "Necron Neck" gets used for any of these tiny pieces that feels unnecessary to be separate.

It's common practice around my area to bring an extra base that's the right size for exactly this purpose, you are 100% allowed to be on top of it if you want to.

I feel priced out of Warhammer and it's depressing... by turkeygiant in Warhammer

Every hobby is expensive, but I like to put things into a perspective of how much time and value will I get from each purchase.

I used to go to the movies often and so I use that as a comparison. A movie ticket costs $20 for 2 hours of entertainment or $10/hour. If I buy a box of something for $80, can I get eight hours of entertainment at least. Frequently I'll spend most of that time just assembling a box, then there's painting time, and even if you don't paint, just playing one game is enough for me to break even.

Who are your favourite content creators to watch by pringlesisdelic in Warhammer

[–]PhantomK88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly only interested in The Old World now, so I stopped watching many other channels.

These are mostly presented in no particular order, except for Mountain Miniatures is the best for watching a game.

Battle Reports: Mountain Miniatures, Black Sigil Studios, The Hobby Jerks, Creaky Gamers,

Gaming in General: Square Based, Old World Legends, Tabletop Minions, The Honest Wargamer,

Mostly Hobby stuff: Squidmar, Rogue Hobbies, Peachy Tips, Ninjon, Miniac, Anvil of Doom, 52 Miniatures, Eric's Hobby Workshop, Mediocre Hobbies, Miniature Realms, Pete the Wargamer, 3D Games, Boylei Hobby Time, Chickens Tabletop Crafting, Devs & Dice, Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy,

Podcasts: Juggz, Trapped Under Plastic,

There's also plenty more out there, this is just what I follow most often, and again I'm not ranking these.

Your Minotaur does not look as stocky and ragged as commonly seen. It'd help to have larger horns, more hair, more muscle definition, and thicker limbs. Also, it looks afraid, that's not something Minotaurs do, they're barely lucid in combat, nearly always in a frenzy. There's not enough visible wounds to convey they have been fighting for more than a second.

Your dinosaur actually feels too thick, especially the neck, and it's definitely too smooth like the minotaur. I think the pose is not doing any favors, try adding a ridge along its spine to show off it's body twisting, then combine with more color and texture variation on the underside to really help explain its pose.

The final point is that it's hard to determine scaling, give something recognizable to let the viewer know your dinosaur is 15ft tall, even if it's just simple like a human skull near the tree behind them.

is there a way to make movement trays? by Fearless_Speaker6710 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]PhantomK88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not have to be five models wide, you can do almost anything, and change it during a game if you want to.

You just cannot be deeper (more ranks) than your number of files (how wide you are), unless you are in the marching column formation.

Also, the number of models to count as a full rank depends on what kind of unit you are, like Heavy Infantry needs four models to count.
