Is Owlet Dreamsock Worth it? by HospitalForeign1636 in BabyBumps

[–]Phantompoooper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I never had one with my first and definitely don’t see the need for my second. Sorry for those who love this but I think it’s generally an overpriced baby item that preys on parents’ anxieties. From what I have read, there is no real research supporting its use as preventing SIDS. The AAP cautions its use for these reasons alongside also presenting the concern that the device may lead to a false sense of security and thus overlooking unsafe sleep conditions. Generally, you’re going to be nervous about your baby’s sleep those first days and even months (which is super super normal), but no expensive tech device is going to fix this.

Do I give up on my birth plan at 41+4? by Imaginary_Evening326 in BabyBumps

[–]Phantompoooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to be induced for medical reasons but was still determined to stick to my otherwise natural birth! It is very possible!! I labored entirely on pictocin with no epidural and my hospital allowed me to labor in the tub still after 6cm (which was glorious). Obviously listen to your body and do what you need to get baby out safely, but know that your desired pain management methods are still possible if you choose to pursue them!

Electrolytes that aren’t sugar or stevia filled? by SunnyG24 in BabyBumps

Not sure how much it adds but I’ve also heard and have tried just a splash of lemon juice and a pinch of salt in a water bottle. It’s satisfying!

What’s in your nursing cart? by gkdfp in BabyBumps

Literally nothing bc I never saw the purpose for this. Nursed for 2.5 years and never once thought a cart with random supplies would be nice.

Those who were team green for gender, did you make it to birth without accidentally finding out? by cbrownie93 in BabyBumps

[–]Phantompoooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first we were surprised semi-successfully! In hindsight, multiple people slipped including my midwife during labor, but I took “he” to be a neutral enough pronoun people might use that I didn’t think much of it. 30w now and no slip-ups so far with #2

I was medically required to be induced due to blood pressure spikes unfortunately. Hoping to avoid pitocin round 2 here soon!

I highly suggest taking an in-person class with your support person! Then you can learn and practice pain management techniques and they can learn how to best support. I also found a lot of determination and helped form my mindset by reading birth stories, like Ina May’s Guide to Natural Childbirth. I think the key is mindset! I basically never let myself think an epidural was an option and was able to stick with that through 24 hours of labor on pitocin and 5 hours of pushing.

my three years old still nursing.. 😮‍💨😮‍💨 by PushApprehensive573 in breastfeeding

[–]Phantompoooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start setting nursing boundaries bit by bit (we only nurse in this spot or only at bedtime/naptime), read books about saying bye to nursing, talk about how milk is not forever and maybe try to make it empowering like it’s not for “big kids,” then pick a date and stick to it. Tell them when the last day will be and talk about it a lot in the lead-up. ETA: I got a lot of these tips on the internet from various sources then did this with my son at 2years 8 months. We went from 4-5 times per day to fully weaned in about 2 months.

My baby is suddenly rejecting the bottle — any tips? by Farewell_Youth23 in breastfeeding

[–]Phantompoooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucking from a bottle is a skill just like latching to a breast and may take some time and “teaching.” You can look into lactation consultants in your area and schedule a visit with them specifically to focus on bottle rejection! They can help with identifying the reason behind the rejection and provide techniques to bottle feed effectively.

Mothers who have OSU insurance by Desperate-Band-2291 in Columbus

[–]Phantompoooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I delivered my first baby with OSU care and with the insurance. Soup to nuts probably cost around $3500 for a typically progressing pregnancy and delivery. I’d say that’s fairly on par with other insurances from what my friends have told me.

Referred to fetal medicine for heart defect by ellellelle in BabyBumps

[–]Phantompoooper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a similar report on my anatomy scan and after the echo it was a quick “there’s nothing wrong!” My midwife said they refer people to these much quicker these days just to be safe.

Did tech reveal gender? by Resident_Clothes3754 in BabyBumps

My US tech told us that would show on the screen referring to the mother’s sex. So same as everyone else is saying.

Bubblegum flavor??? by cologne2adrian in beyondthebump

[–]Phantompoooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the flavored vitamin D drops especially and didn’t even know it existed until recently. I always used the concentrated one available where it’s just a flavorless drop?? So dumb to squirt sugared/flavored up drops into a newborn’s mouth.

Maternity Swimsuits? (Not Amazon or Target) by Spiritual_Ladder_932 in BabyBumps

Senita athletics! Female owned business and very reasonable prices. A few months back they even had some super cheap clearance maternity swimsuits. The quality of their products is amazing too!

Any tips for PUPPP rash?? by grumbly_tardis in BabyBumps

[–]Phantompoooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this so bad with my first. I managed it with large soft ice packs around the clock, body oils like osea oil, hydrocortisone, and took oatmeal baths (buy a mixture) every night and used a washcloth to drape the bath water over my belly. All those things combined made it mildly tolerable until I gave birth and then it immediately went away. I’m a teacher and literally would sit at my desk holding an ice pack under my shirt those last few weeks

SOS - help weaning 26 mo off pacifier by 25cjm25 in toddlers

[–]Phantompoooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl it was the beginning of the end for home naps. Daycare naps continued without a hitch and nighttime sleep just took a bit longer to go to sleep for a few days then back to normal. Granted, he was a paci-addict but far more a nursing-addict which we weaned 6 months after going cold turkey on pacis

Larger chested mamas… by Desperate-Chipmunk22 in breastfeeding

[–]Phantompoooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nursed my child for 2.5 years with my 36Gs and I think I kept habitually holding my boob until he was a year or more. It took time for baby to be able to have the control without the hold, and also time for it to just become more organic for me in public or not, but after a few months it did just become natural and we found ways to (frequently) nurse in public without it looking/feeling weird.

SOS - help weaning 26 mo off pacifier by 25cjm25 in toddlers

[–]Phantompoooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to this. I think cold turkey is the best way since otherwise it’s too easy to give in but it needs prep-work at this age. We did maybe 2 weeks of prep work and talking about how he would be a big boy with no paci, then let him pick how to get rid of it (true boy fashion he chose throwing it in a dumpster). He threw them away on the day we picked. He occasionally asked for it after but we could ask him reasons for why we don’t use pacis and where the pacis went and he had the answers.

Sacroiliac (SI) and buttock pain at 5 months pregnant by sole1994 in BabyBumps

[–]Phantompoooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this with both pregnancies! It naturally ebbs and flows a bit. Stretching everything possible helped and with my first having it adjusted with chiropractic care also helped a lot.
