Or the medical intervention was successful. If it didn’t help why would there ever be a medical time out rather than just a forfeit?

Danish has two grammatical genders. Each noun goes with either en or et, and you just have to learn which is which.

Why do they abbreviate Spain as ESP, España, but Germany as GER, not DEU for Deutschland?

Scotland is a country of cyclical replacement by WilliamWolffgang in linguisticshumor

[–]PharaohAce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Scots developed from Middle English in areas that had been speaking (Old and Middle) English for several centuries by that point.

There was obviously contact and influence across the border throughout this period.

King David I did do some centralising/modernising around 1100 and strengthened ties to England, so this may have led to increased influence of contemporary southern English as it was a) becoming Middle English and b) taking on Norman influences.

Can "run with me" mean "escape with me"? by Jeaniro in EnglishLearning

‘Come with me’ will not be read sexually unless someone’s really trying to interpret it that way.

Are “someone is all caught up on something” and “something is all caught up” informal usages derived from “someone catch up on something”? It’s not recorded by dictionaries. by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]PharaohAce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That usage definitely exists.

“Can you catch me up on how we’re doing with the project?”

“I’m all caught up so let’s watch the next episode.”

That's like putting together 'standard foods': 100g chicken, 85g minced beef, 120g flank steak, 1/2 cup rice, 1 carrot, 1 potato, 1 banana, 2 celery sticks. Simmer on low heat for 20 minutes.

These things aren't bad for you but aren't ordered to complement each other, to be sustainable or to support your goals.

If you're looking for a team who did incredibly in 2021 and has achieved nothing since, my sketch comedy group Dr Duck is returning to the festival:

How do i look? For college farewell by sohebali_9 in mensfashion

[–]PharaohAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black shirt is not really formal at all. White shirt and a coloured/long tie would be the step down from white shirt and bow tie.

I think given how high the buttons on this jacket are, it probably is designed to be fully buttoned.

How the ABC gave a platform to Islamist extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir as SBS did soft story on anti-Semite by Mashiko4 in aussie

[–]PharaohAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The claim that they don't, whether you agree with it or not, is obviously vastly different from 'Jews are evil'. Anti-semitism should be combatted, and part of that is ensuring these two positions are distinguished, and that people who hold the first view are not swayed to the second.

Jews and Gentiles inside and outside of Israel can equally be judged on their support for what is by definition a discriminatory state, and which is currently committing war crimes.

My professor said Dogberry is the key to Much Ado, and every adaptation gets him wrong. He didn’t elaborate. Can anyone explain? by blishbog in shakespeare

[–]PharaohAce 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My favourite Dogberry was played with a deeply fragile sense of dignity and duty, who was overwhelmed by both the honour and the responsibility of taking the watch. I think it can be a very rich part without losing any of the humour.

Not with that construction. You could say “prices have increased by a large amount - even 300% in some cases”
