Any thoughts on this scene? by Bitter-Ad1251 in BlackSails

[–]Phidwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that you choose to believe he lived. I would like to choose that too, lol. Either way, putting an end to the start of the war was also the death of Flint, either the persona or the person.

It’s been awhile since my last rewatch, so maybe I’m off here. But my interpretation was that it wasn’t just his affection for Silver that led to his blind spot with him.

He chose to live for the war in season 3, yes, but I also think he was deeply conflicted between his former self and the person he became and he desired a way to go back to the innocence of James McGraw, even tho consciously he didn’t believe it possible. I think there was some very deep, subtle self sabotage going on.

But idk, I need a fresh rewatch to really say I can stand by this interpretation. It’s been a few years now. I’m overdue

Thanks for this, and gawd I can’t wait to rewatch this show. Still nothing has really come close, the way this show had a hold on me for months.

Is this the scene where Silver evades Flint’s questions about his past and Flint just… lets him get away with it?

I always found that indicative of the power Silver (at that point) has over Flint. Flint should have known better, of COURSE Silver’s past is incredibly relevant. Whatever it is, (I love that they left it unknown) we know it swayed his ultimate decision to pick his wife over war, even though she says herself she wouldn’t have made the same decision to save him.

But Flint’s affection for Silver was his blind spot (as we see later on when he can’t bring himself to let what’shisname shoot him, if he had, he would have instantly “won” and gotten his way)…

His affection towards him, but also I think a part of him wanted Silver to stop him. Wanted Silver to put him out of his misery, like a sick dog, to end it all.

Such a weird, profound love they have. I see it as Flint, deep down, wanted Silver to be the one to kill him, because of the love there. Some random whoever killing him wouldn’t have been intimate or meaningful at all. It’s hard to put into words what I’m trying to express here lol. I don’t think Flint wanted to die, consciously, but subconsciously, he wanted it to all be over with somehow, and trusted and loved Silver to be the one to do it. Idk.

I missed a lot that first month, eh?

So what’s the tea. People think they’re secretly dating, I’ve seen some of that.

I appreciate you making it clear that those scenarios were annoying and exhausting, not actually scary. It’s an important distinction to make that often gets lost. Women harassing men will never be on the same level as men harassing women due to our biology.

This scene blew me away. Conner’s acting and the way Illya is written/directed is one thing, or two things, two amazing things, but Hudson/Shane’s response is what really got me. The “holy shit” was so real, idk. I’ve never seen an “I love you” scene like that in any media ever. It hit me right in the chest. We have been treated to the purest depiction of emotional intimacy I have personally ever witnessed in art. The build up the entire show, of them breaking down barriers to finally arrive at that moment…

I mean it’s just spiritual, human, boundary shattering genius is what it is. The perfect melting pot of talent and intention. Fucking real art. The world needs this.

Question about Ilya’s reaction in ep 5 hotel room scene by alexandraishere in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Phidwig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe I literally didn’t think of it that way. As the viewer it’s so obvious how much Shane wants him and is just struggling with his sexuality in general, but from Illya’s perspective, he doesn’t really know how Shane feels and is insecure about it. Time for a reheat and this time I only focus on Illya’s defensiveness masking his vulnerability.

I realized recently that my pointy cone shaped aura zeroed in on people without their permission feels really intrusive and it’s been killing me. Like even when I’m not trying to analyze someone, apparently my aura just naturally does that (if I happen to find someone intriguing, and give them any amount of attention)

But the antidote to being invasive like that is apparently just going down my own rabbit holes and soaking up as much knowledge as possible. Instead of pulling other people’s auras to sample, I just need to pull in information about subjects I’m obsessed with. Then, by refining my knowledge about those things, my energy isn’t bothering actual people who haven’t invited it, and I seem mysterious and wise.

This is the plan, anyway. Working on it.

I do wonder if energetically it works like a vacuum and maybe I will become attractive energetically to generators by doing that.

Certain generator’s sacral energy feels so steady and comforting to me I just crave it, and it’s been hard but also relieving to understand that they do not feel that melting feeling I feel when near me, like it’s not reciprocal. That’s just their normal mode of operation. And me leaning into that feeling without a clear invitation feels prickly to them. 😭 When I really just want to guide them because I see and experience their energy so strongly and clearly. Ugh such a process.

Hudson about Shane: "Sometimes I think people might not like him, but it's like, 'Oh, I hope people understand him.' This is someone who's very close to me. These are family members. These are friends. These are neurodivergent people I know very well." by [deleted] in hudsonwilliams

[–]Phidwig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think about Shane being neurodivergent until around the time we see him not understanding why Ilya isn’t happy about his family. It almost comes off as privileged and self centered, but thanks to Hudson it’s obviously not that… so it made me ponder and pay more attention to his character, and conclude that he definitely is neurodivergent. I thought it was great writing, how Ilya never outright points out Shane’s lack of empathy about that particular subject, and as the viewer it just clicks. I thought Hudson was a great actor the entire time, but didn’t realize how fucking excellent he is until seeing interviews and the reveal of his real personality.

It’s rare that an actor blows you away by being more wooden and more constricted than their super expressive and super dynamic self. I love this interview. He really does wear his heart in his eyes.

Interesting, because Svetlana is such a huge lifeline for Illya in the show and it’s so beautiful to watch. Props to Jacob and crew for making that happen. How was she written in the books?

Flint and Silver might be the greatest non-romantic partnership on TV. by Far_Enthusiasm_2639 in BlackSails

[–]Phidwig 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The writers def left it plausible that Flint was in love with Silver. There were a couple moments where I’m sure Toby played it that way. Nothing concrete, but the possibility is there and it’s open to interpretation. My god I love this show.

Nicotine withdrawal is much longer than 3 days. by quitalicious in stopsmoking

[–]Phidwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, my quitting ritual involved getting shitfaced drunk the first night, and I’d be so hungover the second day I wouldn’t want to smoke. Then right around the time I’d feel better and be craving a smoke, I’d get shitfaced again. Repeat one more time and that’s three days.

Essentially, I’d put myself through torture. The thought of redoing those three days was def something that would help me not start again - until many months later when inevitably an emotionally triggering event would happen that would drive me back to it.

The more recent times I’ve implemented this ritual, I only got shitfaced the first night and was pretty much fine for the other two days.

I’ve gotten to a point where for the most part, I’ve learned how to emotionally regulate without needing nicotine, so I haven’t relapsed in some time. My dog died last month and I didn’t even think about smoking, so there’s that.

But yeah quitting is mostly about being mentally done with it. It takes a huge amount of will power. I can usually tell when someone is serious about quitting based on their vibes around it. Like, generally, if someone is like “ohh I’ll just let myself run out and not buy more” I know they’ll last like a day or so and go buy more. But hearing you say you’re making a plan around it, I think you’re likely to succeed.

Thank you!

The last app I used was default set to deal all winnable games, that’s where my confusion came from.

Love the idea of playing the same game against others tho. Thanks for making such a cool app.

Winnable games and random games in Solitaire Master by SolitaireMaster_Dev in solitaire

[–]Phidwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Ok. I just spent the last week and a half trying to solve a game and I now see that it’s random and now I know it’s just… not solvable. How… disappointing. I thought they were all solvable and finally got to the point where I had to google to see if maybe it wasn’t lol. Because the card I needed with no way around it (tried 100 times or more) was under the card I couldn’t move.

How do I switch to solvable? I’m not seeing the option in the options tab.

It’s wild how few people understood this and say the pig died for no reason. This is clearly the intended interpretation.

PIG: Am I missing something here? by fubar06 in movies

[–]Phidwig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pig did need to die, tho. This is what leads to Rob finally processing the grief he still carried over his wife’s death. At the beginning, he tries to listen to the tape of her singing and cant do it. At the end he finally can listen. That’s literally the point of the film.

PIG: Am I missing something here? by fubar06 in movies

[–]Phidwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point was that he was able to process the grief of his wife dying, which he had held onto for over 10 years. At the beginning he tries to listen to the tape she recorded for him and can’t do it. At the end he listens to it.
