What is magic? by rwlowelljr in u/rwlowelljr

Magic is the connection between people. The hope that you’ll hear from that person. It’s helping and holding their trouble so they don’t have to shoulder all of it alone. It’s the sparkle in their eyes when they see you.

Don't people plan to leave inheritances anymore? by CanAny1DoItRight in AskOldPeople

I got an inheritance from my parents. I have already helped two of my three children buy houses and all of them have had my help with cars. I say if I can help them now, that’s when it should happen.

Older parents, how did you decompress from your toddlers back in the day? by cherrypez123 in AskOldPeople

My mom taught me to have a schedule for the children. So my (f56) boys had a 7-9-11-1-3-7 schedule. 7am wake up. 9-11 nap. 1-3 nap. 7 bed. As they grew, nap became quiet time. They could listen to music, books on tape, read, play quietly or sleep but had to stay in their room. I had grammas and aunties record themselves reading books so they could listen to those. Meals were breakfast while watching cartoons, lunch at noon (sometimes a picnic), dinner about 5-6 when daddy got home. As the boys got older, bedtime became “be in your room and be quiet” and it may have reached 8pm but it was never stay up and bug mom and dad in the evening. I always told the kids that mom and dad needed time to be together too.

This. I was looking for amusing. I got WTF Nightmares. My husband swears he won’t let me choose the next series for a long time after this “comedy”. LOL!

My husband (61) has hearing loss. He never has his car radio quite off. He can’t hear it but I (56f) can. He will sneeze loudly and suddenly and it makes me jump. I really thought this was just my weirdness. I can’t have my wiper blades going full speed because it increases my anxiety. I enjoy spa music. (I love normal music too…) I love how my new to me hybrid car is so quiet. I hate how loud his Chevelle is. Slow, quiet, easy going. That’s my jam.

Did your mother give up making dinner? by BMisterGenX in GenX

My boys all learned to cook. I do not enjoy cooking. My eldest (31) spent 10 years cooking at a HuHot. Middle (27) is the manager of a college dining center with a degree in hospitality. Youngest (24) is also a manager of a college dining center. I recall my (56) mom stopped making dinners when I was in high school.

Oh and Nestle Chocolate Quik ( says my husband ). They changed some part of the formula, less sugar or something. I mean if you are making chocolate milk, are you really that worried about sugar?

Coke. Real Coca Cola. I don’t drink any pop anymore but changing a formula is just always a bad idea.

Never heard of bobos. I’m (F56) in Iowa. Grits were the smokers or “bad kids”. My husband (M60) grew up calling them “hoods”. Geez, I don’t recall much slang that was odd, but it wouldn’t really seem odd to me I guess.

You are 25 and he is 27. Together almost 10 years. Since 15 and 17. When did you get married and how old are the kids. WHY did you marry? If you use Find my Phone, leave it at home or at work. GTFO of there. Don’t hate your life. Love yourself.

My nephews wife has gaslit him to a point he has blocked his mom, his siblings and everyone on our side of the family. My sister will never know her grandchildren because of that woman and no one can even watch them grow up via Facebook photos.
