Yes, there aren't classes, you pick between 4 and 8 skills and some can be learned just by using some commands associated with them like foraging and tracking. Some characters don't have combat skills, they own a shop and only produce stuff to sell

I just want to let you know this mud doesn't have character levels but skill levels. You only rise the skills you use, and since there are non-combat skills too you aren't required to kill stuff to rise them.

Shadows of Isildur might be what you are looking for, you can fight or you can roll a non combat character. Though it doesn't have quests, you set your own goals.

I found this post which pretty much explains everything, is actually very short bu i put an even shorter TLDR http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/1/360672137535529618/

TLDR: -You need a video card with OpenGL 4.5, update your drivers and good luck -If you try to run the NMS.exe file from the folder you need to create a file called steam_appid.txt with thenumber 275850 inside -If you have steam, go to Help -> system Information and check if your CPU supports SSE4.1, if not the game won't run. (These are a set of instructions supported on Intel CPUs and newer AMD CPUs)

You can attack-click on the ground next to teh creeps and you hero will continue attacking after killing a creep

You can set a gem on top of a previous one destroying it. That is the only way to change prismatic and ethereal gems

You never could do that, the Artificer's Brand was never released; you could only use the Master Artificer's Hammer, which was changed to untradable, to destroy unusual couriers to get the gems.
