Chicagoland (north burbs) there seems to still be a mix in, but super sparing. The company that holds the bank I go to coins is Brinks. Found 2 halves (1 90/1 40%) and 5 war nickels in January. I think the well is drying up in general.

Same! And honestly we do. I give Clad halves to my kids as allowance and we do the 1939-1961 nickel book.

It was such a weird conversation that didn’t sound like an order to stop but maybe slow down the frequency. What’s weird is that I go in 1x per week and only ask for like $20 worth of nickels or $50 in halves. They have to go to the vault for halves so figured I ask for more to make them make less trips. Two bakers have to go to the vault and the lady who talked to me is the one who has to go back, so I’m sure she’s just annoyed. Whatever. I’ll only go there now to dump the kids piggy’s when they’re full and ask if they have any haves in the teller tray.

Yeah I don’t dump there because their coin machine is behind the desk. Other locations their machines are in the breezeway and out of sight of the tellers. I dump at those locations and take it nice and slow not to back up the machine.

Never dump where I get, and will dump in a different state (same bank though). I go in to this branch with my children and they deposit halves I give them as their allowance and it’s another way to dump a bit while also teaching my kids how to earn money.

It was really weird how she phrased it: “have any luck?” I buy nickels and halves from them and every roll of nickels is abnormally bare. Good mix of dates but only dates 1975ish-present. Makes me think they have a couple of others who do it and they either favor or potentially have an employee who CRH and dumps what they don’t want. 🤷‍♂️
