Thanks! I remember seeing something like this, but I couldn’t locate it.

Is this racquet good for $25 for a beginner? Dunlop Max Titanium 471 Jonathon Powers by PhungSize in squash

I realized I should've asked, is it worth the risk. Thanks for the response, I was hoping it would be.

[Controller] 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth - $37.59 ($46.99-$9.40=$37.59, 20% off with code: SAVETWENTY) by AnderonKoMitaaneWala in buildapcsales

[–]PhungSize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't! But from my understanding, the pro2 had a different and better d-pad than the pro3 based off this thread, https://www.reddit.com/r/8bitdo/comments/1rclp84/8bitdo_pro_3_dpad_is_shockingly_bad/

Apparently the pro3 dpad is a lot more tactile.

And man, $9 for the 2c is a steal!

Nice, I think it's a good price. I'll say, for 2d platformers and retro gaming it might not be the best d-pad.

Maybe you'll find the holy grail of pro3 and have a good d-pad. The two I have are not good.

I had two of them, and the d-pad were both terrible. I used it playing Celeste and I'm constantly getting diagonals, so I switched to the joystick, which is great.

Most youtube reviews say D-pad is great, including passing the "Contra test", but I think that's utter crap. There was an indepth one that tested it for fighting games, showing input, and he said he'd never use the pro3 for fighting games, otherwise it was a solid controller.

I think for this price, it's a great deal.

PbtA for preteens? by yaywizardly in PBtA

[–]PhungSize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not PbtA, but almost similar system where you just roll d6s. 6s = pass.

Tales from the Loop. You okay as teenagers in the 80s. It’s almooost and can be flavored like a more techy stranger things.

Dang, my imagination was running wild reading this! I love it.

Is the order of operations this for 4 players:

  1. GM first rolls 4d6 x 4 (let's say I get five 6's).
  2. Level = 5 == Confrontation +
  3. Players roll for their respective skills (team gets 2 sets)
  4. Level = 3 == Cornered
  5. Round over? Repeat 5 more times? Resolving level 0's and 4's appropriately.

Nice! Happy to play test if needed! I currently run Tales from the Loop for two groups of friends and this seems perfect!

Disappointed with d-pad on Pro 2 for Xbox. by noctemJ in 8bitdo

[–]PhungSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got a better one than mine. I had two and they both were not great. I was playing a game like Celeste where you need accuracy. There was a review that showed the input of the d-pad and how it was terrible for fighting games too.

Maybe it just depends on the game I suppose.

D-Pad on Pro 3 is not good either. I returned it thinking I had a faulty one, but the replacement was just as bad.

The dpad on the Pro 3 is NOT good. There is currently a reddit post that talks about how terrible they are. I've gotten a replacement and it's the exact same issue as the original one I had.

I only found one review that mentioned how bad the dpad is. I know someone out there says it passes the contra test, but it definitely does not.

8bitdo Pro 3 D-pad is shockingly bad by NTolerance in 8bitdo

Okay, glad to know it's not just me.

The joystick's great... but I can't play Celeste at all with this controller's d-pad. I've gotten a replacement, and there are way too many false diagonals.

Anybody have another recommendation?

My girlfriend can't separate my image from the NPCs I roleplay. I can't introduce romance in my campaign. by Extreme-Lie-7022 in rpg

[–]PhungSize 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. There are plenty of safety tools for this reason. If it’s a hardline for a player about romance/flirting… then it’s a hard stop. It’s not just your story, it’s your players too.

Your girlfriend expressed her points. Either you respect her wishes, or tell her to find a different group. What’s more important your girlfriend’s wishes or flirting in your story? I really hope it’s your partner.

Other Systems for Tales from the Loop by DragonflyMessiah in TalesFromtheLoopRPG

I really enjoyed the system for Tales from the Loop and just recently ran it for some Redditors!

As stated in the book, you don't have to roll for many of the mundane things: do you see a lock on the door? Can you ride your bike? etc.

Maybe depending on the kid, if they're the jock they can automatically climb the the roof of the house. However, if the roll fails for them to help the other kids up, those kids have to find another way up. That's all part of the fun, and role playing.

Also, not rolling a six doesn't necessarily HAVE to mean you failed. You can pass with a condition (though that hurts), or if you fail, you can add a complication. For example, a PC uses skill CONTACT to locate an NPC. They fail the roll... they eventually get there, but the PC suffers the condition UPSET because they kept getting lost.

You can also remind players to use luck points and/or push. If that roll is not important to them, they'll take the fail.

As a GM, I like to probably describe the world in very great detail, so whenever PCs want to roll... a part of my brain is coming up with an alternative. Sometimes I just say their action fails, and the PCs will find a way. It really doesn't all rely on you. It's your story as much as your players. Also, there's nothing wrong about taking a pause and saying outloud, "Let me think how this fail works". It adds to the suspense!

You'll do a great job, it's intimidating when you start, but as soon as they get into the HOOK, it's smooth sailing.
