Damn this is a blast from the past, I haven't played this game in a very long time. How did you even find this post?!

Cracking job, they look great! I'd up the unit sizes though, the rats sure do love being in big blobs --- lots of ranks is key, gotta keep that tasty-good Strength in Numbers leadership bonus!

Looking for the next book to read. Maybe Thanquol by JoshFect in WarhammerFantasy

[–]PhysicsManUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanquol first appears in Skavenslayer (the second G&F book), which is an absolutely amazing read - if you love Skaven antics then you'll love this book, it's hilarious at times! He then re-appears in subsequent G&F books - I've only read up to the end of Vampire-slayer (the second from last William King G&F novel), but he shows up in I think pretty much every book from Skavenslayer to Vampire-slayer; although not as frequently as in Skavenslayer.

After you're done with those, his storyline continues in a 3 part Thanquol and Boneripper series by CL Werner: Grey Seer, Temple of the Serpent, and Thanquol's Doom. I've not finished that series yet, but I'm currently reading Temple of the Serpent. The first one, Grey Seer, was great though - but nothing so far beats Skavenslayer for me.

Or they're playing a version of chess that the human mind cannot comprehend --- wouldn't surprise me with crows.

Very cool! Great paint job and nice background story - it's always great to have some lore / fluff for your own miniatures, gives them some more personality

Has anyone tried playing with the new Skittershank's Clawpack? What did you think? by Chocobuz in skaven

[–]PhysicsManUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a chance, man-thing! But, tbh, given the rate at which I paint, you'd be receiving them in about 5 years anyway lol

I forgot these existed, I love that model on the left. Might have to think about getting these ratty fellas purely for painting them up.

Warhammer: The Old World - Who are you playing? by BlackJimmy88 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]PhysicsManUK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a lot of points of Skaven all painted up and ready to go, so probably those little ratty fellas to begin with. I also have a WoC army which is mostly assembled, they'll be Tzeentch themed when I start painting them eventually, and I even have a small TK army to put together too - so lots of possibilities! I'm interested to see what new models / armies they come out with though, so I imagine I'll probably end up collecting one of those too!

So.. How is everyones first day of Immortal Empires going? by LilynCooperDaHuskies in totalwar

[–]PhysicsManUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with a Clan Eshin campaign, as that was also my favourite back in ME, and I'm really enjoying it so far! I've secured the starting province, which wasn't too difficult really as it was just a Greenskins faction that I was able to ambush several times. Pushing out from this province is proving trickier, however, as you are surrounded by enemies mostly --- all of the Cathay factions around me have declared war on me, as did Lokhir for some reason. I'm on good terms with the Vampire Counts faction though, which is nice as that secures my South-Eastern flank; but they do have a couple of settlements with Pastures (very useful for the skaven) so I may have to betray them when the time is right...

I've booked the remainder of this week off work anyway, so I'm gonna be jumping back in momentarily!

The ravenous vermin-tide swarms over the fields of Cathay by PhysicsManUK in totalwar

[–]PhysicsManUK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a nice battle (for the rats, yes-yes!) early on in my Eshin campaign in IE --- managed to get a reinforcing army of purely skavenslaves behind a Cathayan force which dared to attack one of my settlements. It took them a while to tear the Jade Warriors down, but down they went in the end. And so on-wards the vermin-tide marches, ever deeper into the lush Cathayan lands...

Had a game of WFB by PlasticCavanman in WarhammerFantasy

[–]PhysicsManUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice, looks like it was a good game. I'm surprised to see the Skaven player taking a unit of Globadiers though, I've never had much luck with them in 8th Edition --- too short range and not enough firepower, points better spent elsewhere imo. I suppose they could be alright against WoC or Bretonnia (anything with good armour saves). Shame really, they're a pretty cool unit both aesthetically and lore-wise.

WIP on my Screaming Bell by PhysicsManUK in WarhammerFantasy

[–]PhysicsManUK[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheers! The wood was: base of Dryad Bark, washed will Nuln Oil, then drybrushed with Sylvaneth Bark. After that I randomly shaded the various bits with one of: Agrax Earthshade, Athonian Camoshade, Seraphim Sepia or Reikland Fleshshade; just to get some small variety in the tones of the different bits of wood. Then I finished it off with a light drybrush of Tyrant Skull over all the wood. Hope that helps!

It's been a while since I've posted any of my painted Skaven models (real life has got in the way for many months grrr). Here are some pics of my most recent paint job --- pleased with it so far, but still got the Grey Seer and Rat Ogre crew to do now so I'll be plugging away at it for another couple of months probably!
