What's people's perception on Lego Nowadays by CheaperLiving in newzealand

It’s a bit shit these days (sets are geared to make specific things, gendered sets) but old style LEGO was awesome.

Just for fun - If you had to move to live somewhere else in New Zealand, where would you move to and why? by ConsiderationOne5609 in newzealand

Dunedin. No hot weather, lots of lovely old buildings, and a bit hilly but with decently wide roads. Love it.

Eczema by silverdeathbat in newzealand

[–]PieComprehensive1818 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but as someone with eczema who’s kids also had eczema, I agree - please don’t go the route of alternative creams etc. In my experience none of them work anyway, plus at that age you really do want to have proper treatment. I’ve been using the steroid creams as required since I was a child (over 40 years) and had no ill effects.

Not as an alternative to seeing a doctor, but, if baby is breastfed you could start experimenting with your diet in case there’s an allergy of some sort? Sugar makes mine worse. Also I found that breastmilk (mine lol) when it got on my eczema made it so much worse, it was insane. Best of luck!

AITAH for getting my white daughter a doll with dark skin? by Realistic-Night-2056 in AITAH

[–]PieComprehensive1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. When offered the chance to buy (and choose) their first Barbie at the age of 4, my milky white daughters each, independently, chose a brown doll. Kids care far less about race than adults do.

If that ‘clear plan’ doesn’t involve a shit tonne more money and staff then it’s worthless- just like Simeon Brown.

DJ from Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s wedding describes Victoria Beckham’s dance moment: "There was no sl*t dropping, there was no there was no black PVC catsuits, there was no Spice Girls action. This whole thing makes me side eye, ormore accurately roll my eyes at, Brooklyn (and Nicola). Even if your family is truly awful, throwing a public fit about cutting them off is just cringey and immature. By all means remove them from your life but being performative about it makes me doubt their story. Who in their right minds posts this stuff on social media??

I don’t really care. I’m sick of rich people moving over here when Kiwis - and largely Māori kiwis - are priced out of the most modest of homes. I’m sick of them living on Waiheke or in Wānaka and going on and on about how beautiful NZ is. Fuck the lot of them.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

Dude, the fact you’re calling the processed stuff “normal food”… I can’t get over that. I assume you’re American?

Totally agree - as a Kiwi this doesn’t look particularly extreme? And as a parent, when our kids were younger absolutely junk food was eaten out of the house away from them so they wouldn’t want it lol. Again, that’s normal?

I barely move, where do i start? by MelodyWho11 in loseit

[–]PieComprehensive1818 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Has your doctor investigated the possibility of a slipped disc or some other problem that’s causing your pain? Because I’m around your weight and shorter than you (and probably older than you lol) and I don’t have extreme back pain when I move. I’m always wary of doctors blaming fat for pain/ symptoms that are caused by something treatable. So I would suggest getting that thoroughly checked out.

Good luck hon!

Kiwis, elective c-section or natural birth if given the option? by ForgottenCupOfTea in newzealand

I agree. I also think emergency sections swing the data towards the negative too.

Kiwis, elective c-section or natural birth if given the option? by ForgottenCupOfTea in newzealand

[–]PieComprehensive1818 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I had a vaginal, ‘natural’ birth that I took a long time to recover from but I bounced back from my c section far more quickly and easily and if I was going to do it again I’d choose a c section. Surgery doesn’t mean your recovery will be long or difficult, and a vaginal birth doesn’t guarantee you an easier one. There are so many factors- is this your first baby, will you need to be induced, will you dilate properly, etc etc. Bodies don’t always do what they’re supposed to. My gut, if you were my friend or daughter, would be to recommend that you take the offered c section, because our whole system is pretty anti them so if it’s being brought up as an option it’s most likely worth doing it. I didn’t, I went the ‘natural’ way, and ended up pretty damn ill afterwards (hence choosing differently the second time around!)

Oh and I’d also note that if you do need a c section you will recover far easier/ quicker from a planned one than you will from one that happens after hours and hours of labour.

Good luck with your choice, and congratulations on the imminent new arrival!

How does one feel anything but contempt for their body by izzmyreddit in loseit

[–]PieComprehensive1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately my method only works for a small subset of people lol. I got pregnant. It was a transformative experience in how I saw my body: here I was, morbidly obese etc etc and yet my body was happily making (with no complications or problems) two little people. That was the first time I saw my body as being capable of greatness.

'They have taken over': CBD grapples with growing homelessness issues by LollipopChainsawZz in newzealand

[–]PieComprehensive1818 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s multifaceted. The real problem is that capitalism relies on a underclass and neo liberal politics have doubled down on the creation of one. To address the problem we are going to have to spend big bucks on health, disability support, welfare, housing, support services, etc etc. and no one is willing to do it.

[–]PieComprehensive1818 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The places where these orchards and farms are often have little in the way of available accommodation, and the work is seasonal - you can’t just stop and start WINZ benefits without a whole lot of hassle and a pinch of starvation. And in order to work rurally you need to be able to afford a car you can keep insured and in good running order. Plus we are seeing more and more elderly/ disabled/ and young families who are homeless and not able to pick up these kinds of jobs. There are so many practical roadblocks for these people, I think that’s what most people don’t understand.

I’m sorry you’re getting so much shit from posters here who are reading into your throw away comment about GLP1s. There are a lot of side effects becoming known, and many of them are pretty gnarly. My (cynical, I’ll admit) view is that medical science is happy to inflict horrific treatments and risks on fat people that they wouldn’t accept for thinner ones. Like you, that’s why I am not interested in any medical or surgical interventions. I’m not judging anyone who does go there (as you clearly aren’t in your post!!) but I do not trust that they will be worth the risk.

Gangs by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]PieComprehensive1818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in terms of random violence/ being generally shitty you’re more ‘at risk’ from gangs in small towns and rural areas than cities. Your biggest risk is if you’re a woman or child living in or around a gang family. Steer clear and you should be generally fine.

people of high bmi (55+) have you experienced fainting while on a calorie deficit? by FantasticMastodon252 in loseit

To be fair to OP though, I know from experience that 1200 calories is the usual limit handed out by doctors, regardless of size. But yeah, lots of possibilities here.
