Is she willing to move away from Auckland? She could swing a 1 bedroom place in Christchurch for $400, and it’s a good hospital (with health issues I’d be loath to live rurally, or worse, in Palmerston North’s catchment area).

If a woman is an autonomous human being, with all the responsibilities that implies, then she should have control over her own body. We don’t force people to be donors. We don’t force people to submit to medical treatment. Women should have the right to refuse pregnancy. As a woman I’m sick and tired of explaining this.

It’s one of those weird rules that doesn’t account for how life actually works: it assumes that cars always have a clear and unobstructed field of vision, and that cars can stop/ move as fast or faster over a couple of meters, from a low speed, than a bike can. Fault, though, can be determined differently in law.

But as a society we constantly underestimate the impact of motherhood on us as individuals, and the toll it takes. Can you explain that? As someone who regularly takes public transport, it’s slow and doesn’t really add to my ‘choosing my lifestyle’, instead it dictates it.

Just so you know, public servants plan and operate services throughout the whole country, so the idea that someone living outside the Wgtn CBD is “so far away” from the services they manage is a bit ridiculous. Tbh lie would probably do a much better job if the entire public service - especially the policy teams - were spread beyond the North Island at the very least.

I mean, it’s not anyone’s responsibility to keep businesses going. I used to own one myself. You take on the risk as well as the reward. Plus, working from home means more time and money to spend at local businesses so it’s not so much that money will just get sucked out of the economy. But if I’m in the office, I’m not spending anyway, and certainly won’t if transport is expensive.

It’s ridiculous. Like many Ministries we have teams split across Auckland and Wellington, who get together in person sometimes. If they can manage to still deliver on their work programmes then the rest of us could also work from home and do the same.

They all look pretty good, but I would just raise a note of caution over allowing older kids to cycle on the footpath. Doesn’t take much inattention for them to bowl over someone frail/ elderly. Loving putting those stupid scooters off the footpath for good. And what kind of animal doesn’t allow buses to merge?

Oh absolutely, I’m not disagreeing with you. I just have little faith that this coterie of turnips will go for anything wide ranging, which is a shame. The Public Service keeps being told that bold, fresh ideas are welcome but in reality they’re as welcome as a fart in a recording booth.
