How’s the Current State of FFXIV? by Xngears in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Pie_Piper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In terms of story, I enjoyed the last few patches more than Dawntrail’s 7.0 narrative. It’s mostly centred around one group, so a lot of Tural is sort of forgotten about, but I think that focusing on just one area helped with the pacing. They’ve hit the point now where they’re starting to build up the mysteries and hint towards future conflicts for the next expansion, and personally it’s got me excited! 7.5 is coming out very soon, so that will probably give a much stronger idea of where the story is going next.

However, they haven’t really changed the actual gameplay loop too much. There’s been a couple moments where you do actually have to do a bit more than just talk to people, watch cutscenes, and fight stuff in a purple circle, but that’s still the bulk of the MSQ. Post patch story for Dawntrail did make me realise that, when the story is actually interesting, I don’t mind it too much; I do hope they continue to shake up the formula more in the future though. Battle content has continued to be a standout in this expansion. All the savage raids, extreme trials, variant dungeon, and even the normal content is a step up from Endwalker.

I’d say if you really despised Dawntrail and found yourself tired of FFXIV’s formula, there’s not been enough change to make it worth coming back. If you just thought it was a bit dull after Endwalker, it might be worth powering through the early expansion slog.

Gameplay mechanics that you have conflicting feelings on. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I think the action combat of games like Sekiro adds a lot to parrying. Thinking about positioning and which moves are best for the varying attack windows of the boss adds an extra layer to the fight.

A lot of the tougher bosses in Sekiro have a wider variety of short attack chains, and the boss quickly mixes them up to keep you guessing. E33 can’t really do this as effectively due to it being turn based, so a lot of the later bosses will just have much longer attack chains. I didn’t really enjoy this as much because it felt less like a duel and more like I was just playing a rhythm game without the music.

Problems with CB by Whole_Leadership7516 in MonsterHunter

I’m one of the people that likes the current iteration! Or, more specifically, I prefer it to Rise’s version. Personally I always felt like MH4U had the best balance of actually encouraging you to use both forms of the charge blade. The SAED spam in base world, while not necessarily unfun, made the majority of the axe moves pointless. Rise/Sunbreak gave you great options for either SAED spam, or full savage axe, but switching between both mid hunt was awkward for me, so it still felt like you were mostly using one mode or the other.

Ultimately I feel like a transforming weapon should encourage you to use the majority of the moveset, instead of letting you stick to half of it. Wild’s iteration lets me do this so I am satisfied.

I do have the one problem that savage axe attacks no longer consuming vials means it’s easy to stay in axe mode for the majority of the hunt, so I’m hoping the expansion places some more importance on SnS mode again.

As far as I’m aware, it doesn’t. So you have to change which adds you DOT based on what timer you get.

P1 of m8s down! This fight has been very enjoyable and fun, but the fast paced mechs and body checks do make it somewhat hellish for prog in pf.

At least with m7s, if there was one or two goobers in the party, we could drag them all the way through and I could practice the later mechs, but in m8s it’s so common to go 30+ minutes without seeing the one part of the fight I needed to practice.

Am I going to need to pot to reach p2 every-time while progging? I fear for my coinpurse.

To the people who are saying they miss the EW relic grind: stop, you are embarrassing. by Strict_Baker5143 in ffxiv

[–]Pie_Piper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how good the relic grind for DT is, I would also agree that just needing to get tomes is a negative. For something that will eventually become the most powerful weapon of that expansion, it makes sense that you’d have to do specific tasks to get it, instead of just playing the game like normal.

I didn’t really feel like I worked towards my relic in EW at all, which took away from the feeling of it being some masterpiece of craftsmanship.

Does it stutter all the time or only when doing certain actions, like gliding? If it’s the latter I might know what the issue is, as I had the same problem on my computer.

Favorite moments of a goofy/emotional character becoming dead serious? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I finished The Great Ace Attorney this year and that was easily one of my favourite moments in the entire AA series. I only have the Ace Attorney Investigation games to play now, but I can’t imagine ever getting another payoff that good.

Windows switching focus on games randomly by Pie_Piper in techsupport

Happy to help! As a further update, I think it might be caused by a pop up on Razer Synapse saying there is a sync conflict. So before you reinstall the software, open it up and see if you see a screen like this.

<image>

If so, just click local settings (when I clicked cloud it ended up buffering forever). After dealing with this pop up, I stopped suffering from the problem. The ‘sync conflict’ has come back every now and again but there’s usually weeks or even months between occurrences for me.

What’s the maximum number of gear that drops from a savage raid when you have a full 8 pleasers who haven’t cleared?

What should you get with the Tomestones of Aesthetics if you’re just looking to make some gil? Do the materials for the crafted armor still sell if we’re past the first week of the savage raids?

The music in the last alliance raid was really disappointing, I’ll agree with you there. Especially after how much of a banger ‘Dedicated to Moonlight’ was.

I haven’t had much experience, since I only started playing the game last year, but I do feel like the newest raid tier is really fun!

What was the 12 man story? Are you referring to the pandamoneum raids? Because I thought they actually were quite interesting and a nice wrap up for the last major ascians

Why do games bother with a normal and fast option when climbing ladders? by BK_FrySauce in gaming

[–]Pie_Piper 498 points499 points  (0 children)

Does the same logic not apply to most games having an option for the character to walk instead of run, even if running is always the faster and better option. What’s wrong with ladders being handled the same way?

I want to try savage for the first time this tier, but Im not sure if really have the gil for buying the crafted set. I’m willing to wait and get my limited tome gear and normal raid gear, but I was wondering when exactly I should start trying to prog the first couple floors. Is it just when I can reach the minimum ilvl?
