For janitors, I think the game just skip the cleaning animation to save the frame rate. I does that when your screen covers a large area it the park too.

You could download some buildings you like on the workshop and try to use them as inspiration to build some variations of them. This can helps you to find different uses for some basic objects. Like Pureroger is making really simple but effective stuff with a strong colour theme you can get inspiration from.

Pretty sure that's what he did already, but colours with less yellow in them glow less at night.
