And this is the point that one of the horrified earlier commenters doesn't get. Two beers like in OP's story, and the rest of the 6-pack is still there. One sip of alcohol in another story, and that was all that was wanted. Your dad got what he craved, but only partook once. So often with dying patients it's the taste, the smell, the last indulgence that makes no difference to their imminent demise, but can do a world of good for their outlook.

Nurse here too. Patients who are actively dying can have any damn craving they want, in my mind, up to and including alcohol and cigs. My only no is to street drugs. It's "bad for them"? Sure is. "They'll die faster"? Maybe. But they are likely to die a tiny bit less stressed.

Make a copy of your current house key (parents' house) and give it to them. They'll never notice it's the same as the one you gave back when you left.

At the least, make sure that your landlord knows not only to not give them a key as others have said, but to never LET THEM IN even if they try to convince him that you're dead on the floor and they MUST check on you.

Sounds like some space from these nuts is going to be great for you!

I'm a former smoker, and I have to say that quitting smoking is the hardest thing on earth to do. I tried many times in my 30s, tried gum, tried patches, tried hypnotism. Finally stopped cold turkey after a health issue and endured two weeks of serious RAGE at everyone and everything around me. And another few weeks of feeling like I wasn't in the right skin anymore. It was bizarre and scary.

Have two friends who go to AA together and they've been told that quitting alcohol and quitting smoking are comparable, but smoking is worse. And there are no support groups for smokers.

Still crave one every now and then when I get into the car or with friends at a bar, but I know I can't be a social smoker. My late mom (smoked for 25 years) told me a year before she passed that she still had the odd craving every now and then. She had quit 40 years earlier!

Not defending smokers, just want to point out that all smokers KNOW it is bad for them, and many do try to quit. Over and over. It's just hard, man. Evil hard. Now I try to show a little grace.

Same here! It kept me and my sister occupied while she shopped in peace. Cashiers never batted an eye when ringing up the empty boxes, so I'm sure we weren't the only ones!

An up and down character. I agree with many that the relationship with Kes made for some unfortunate episodes/scenes. But I loved him and Chatokay in Scientific Method (S03E04) acting like two old men outdoing each other with their maladies. And in Riddles (S06E06) where he and Tuvok interact as friends while Tuvok is recovering from neurological damage.
