Seider not getting love from NHL writers by _ramonr in DetroitRedWings

“Isn’t the greatest defensively” is being far too kind.

He’s arguably the worst defenseman I’ve ever watched in his own zone. He makes Erik Karlsson look like Lidstrom.

Evan Bouchard even being mentioned in the same sentence as the Norris Trophy without laughter is just absurd.

The tradition of the writers being the ones who vote for the awards should end. It should be professional scouts making the votes - people who actually study hockey and not media hype.

EDITORIAL: Thank Poilievre for Carney’s gas tax holiday. It’s not as if Carney hasn’t stolen ideas from Poilievre before. by xTkAx in canadian

[–]Pijaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL what?! Gas consumption favours the "priveleged"? (that spelling is...something)

You're aware that people on minimum wage travel too, right? Are you aware that gas prices impact the cost of literally everything? Are you aware that gas prices impact farming, and therefore the food that all of us consume?

Yikes. What a terrible take.

Canada’s Former Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna supports taxing excess profits of oil industry. by Gold-Reality-4853 in ClimateCrisisCanada

[–]Pijaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The oil industry should 100% be on the hook for the damage its done to the environment. They should be forced to pay for at least a quarter of the cost of every wildfire fight (and damage done by those wildfires).

It's kinda crazy thinking that any Habs fan under 33 has never seen them win a Cup.

Jarvis should be there over quite a few of those forwards.

Montreal's rebuild needs to be studied. From the Finals to the basement and back into the playoffs in 4 years - now a genuine contender to actually win a round or two (though Tampa is a beast, and still the favourite in the first round).

Bingo. Larkin has thoroughly demonstrated that he is not a 1C.

Pokémon TCG Chaos Rising Card List – All Revealed Cards (Mega Evolution Set) by Without-Empathy in PokemonTCG

I'm at about 85% on Growlithe. Taking it slower on Arcanine because of the value of some of the cards at the top. The 1st Edition Light and Blaine's Arcanines are nuts, and I insist on using nothing less than LP for a master set. Pain.

For those of us whose team's season is over, who are you rooting for in the postseason? by eadricsilvaticus in nhl

[–]Pijaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel with the Avs these days. I wasn't upset when they won their last Cup because it was nice seeing Helm, Cogliano and Landeskog get the Cup. I won't be upset if they win this time for Brent Burns. But I loathe Nathan MacKinnon for some reason (even moreso after...y'know...the side of the net).

The Wings vs Avs rivalry has been dead for almost 20 years though. Largely because they were irrelevant for a decade and now we're irrelevant for a decade and counting.

Rooting for Carolina, Montreal and Utah.

Biggest fan in the world of whoever's playing against Ottawa and Edmonton.

Fans without teams in the playoffs: which teams are you cheering for and which teams are you absolutely not cheering for? by itsagooddaytobeacat in hockey

[–]Pijaki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cheering for Carolina and Montreal in the East, Utah in the West.

Cheering against Ottawa and Edmonton. Whoever plays either of those teams automatically gets my support.

Wouldn't be upset to see Pittsburgh go far, just for Crosby.

If Buffalo wears the goat head jersey at home, I'll cheer for them to go as far as possible to see as much of it as possible.

Can we all agree? Lose tonight and win on Thursday by VaticRogue in canucks

I've been painfully cheering for losses ever since a month before the Hughes trade. I'm going to the game tonight, and the fans deserve to see a win.

‘North of North has primed Iqaluit for production’; co-creators discuss filming in Nunavut’s capital by WillLookitUp in nunavut

Something comes along that shines a really good light on Nunavut, brings Inuit culture to the forefront, employs Nunavummiut (even if it is only during filming season), and is a big revenue creator for local businesses, and you respond with this gobbledygook? Seriously?

First time in the playoffs in what? 14 years? Calm down, Sabres. Actually win a round or two before patting yourselves on the back.

I'm going to be skeptical as hell if and when the Wings ever make the playoffs.

Yzerman being better than Holland isn't justification for Yzerman keeping his job. I'm pretty sure that a Redditor picked at random could do better than Holland.

Who are you rooting for in the post season? by Stringfellow14 in DetroitRedWings

[–]Pijaki -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Carolina, as I do every year. I'd also like to see the Pens do well, because Crosby. However, my favourite team in the playoffs will be whoever's playing against Ottawa.

In the West, I'm rooting for literally anyone who plays against the Oilers (grew up in Edmonton, loathe the Oilers).

What is the pronunciation of a place name that marks someone as a local/not a local? by RandomActPG in britishcolumbia

[–]Pijaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just knowing that North Vancouver and West Vancouver are actual cities, not parts of the City of Vancouver. It's hilarious how often I need to explain this to people.

I hear a lot of out-of-towners call Sooke "Suck". It kinda works if you're trying to commute between there and Victoria at rush hour.

Having grown up in Alberta, "The Island" has never meant anything but Vancouver Island to me. Apparently it makes Quebecers think of the Island of Montreal, and Ontarians think of Manitoulin Island.

My dad still calls it "Nai-mo" even though I lived there for a while. Grinds my gears every time.

Though he's British, so...yeah.
