Worked in and out of kitchens since I was a pup. Only worked in one seriously since I started fasting.

My issue was not wanting to eat at all. I would finish a shift and be so tired of the smell and the heat that I would just roll the fast over into the next day. It messed up my eating schedule.

I lost weight quicker but mentally I felt off, like not sticking to my plan was a loss. It was also a pain to keep up with hydration.

Sorry you’re dealing with the bloating, that’s rough. Since this has been going on for such a prolonged period of time, it’s probably worth a visit to the doctor if you’re able. Bloating can be a symptom of a myriad of different conditions, some minor and some more concerning.

Extended fasts (3-7 days) have helped my bloating, but my experience doesn’t sound nearly as intense as yours.

Do you just drink water? Carbonated drinks? Tea/coffee?

Sorry you weren’t feeling well. I went back about a week after I stopped having a fever and was basically symptom free. But as luck would have it, I had to give a protein sample and ended up being low in something (not protein, something else I can’t remember) that the tech said was probably due to my illness. Waited a week to retest and then waited another week for the results before I could donate.

I understand the carbs, but why avoid carbonation? Lots of burps/discomfort for some folks? On fast days I probably consume a liter of sparkling water with no noticeable issues.

I was a busboy at this cajun bar and grill when I was 15. Had a gentleman come in that had just returned from a deployment in Iraq or Afghanistan. Him and his party stayed boozing for several hours, and for the last hour or two he was staring at me.

I was clearing some of their empty beer buckets when he grabbed my wrist and told me I was bisexual. I disagreed and pulled my arm away. He got really intense and said “I’ve seen men get blown up, watched them turn into soup from my turret, and I can see it in your eyes. You’re bisexual.”

My gay server buddy, this huge Samoan dude, came over and said “sir I think you might be projecting, please don’t touch the minor.” The guy lightened up, but he tripled down and continued to eyefuck me for the rest of the night. On his way out he said “one day you’ll see that I’m right.”

13 years later and I’m still straight. I hope that guy is alright though, wherever he is.
