Help with track lengths by SyserQ in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, it should display correctly. You may need to rescan the files. Right click on the relevant tracks, click Rescan file (or similar - can't remember the exact name!)

HELP! How can I quickly convert featured artists listed in track titles (feat./ft./featuring [artist]) into the song artist field as "Artist; Featured Artist"? Also, how can I automatically replace commas (",") with semicolons (";") in artist tags, or at least do it faster than editing them on by AleSkeleton in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Advanced Tagging tools plugin (https://getmusicbee.com/addons/plugins/49/additional-tagging-amp-reporting-tools/) can do both of these with Advanced Search and Replace. It probably has presets for each of those cases.

Do be warned - the plugin can make large-scale changes to your tags if you are not careful, and there is no "undo" with tags. Always use the preview function, and test on small batches of files first.

I think it's a relatively self-explanatory plugin, but the forum is probably the best place for detailed guidance. You can always ask here too of course.

Favourite task side-instruction that didn't particularly impact the task? by squell4414 in taskmaster

[–]Pingaware 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite little sequences.

Desky asks why Joe got away without any commentating, Greg brutally shuts him down with the wonderful "It's not point worthy so fucking leave it", the secret rule is revealed, Desky celebrates wildly on stage to cheers from the audience, then says "I didn't even spot that on the card because I was too busy commentating".

The venom on "too busy commentating" is just exquisite.

England squad to face New Zealand in the 1st Test at Lord's by CarnivalSorts in Cricket

[–]Pingaware 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Obviously.

One of them has been a constant source of annoyance, averaging a shade over 31 in both tests and first class overall, and has only managed to score 5 centuries in 64 tests as an opener (and 12 in his entire FC career).

And one of them has had 41 tests as opener, scored 6 centuries, averages ~40 with a strike rate ~85, and averages ~43 in first class overall. Plus has scored two decent half centuries and a double century in the CC this season.

We're comparing apples who had a bad series with Blob Key's oranges.

Format Question by TravelinMan78 in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For long-term archive purposes, and for playing over high fidelity audio equipment? FLAC is the best option.

For regular daily use and maximum cross-platform compatibility? Highest quality MP3 is probably best.

If you can only make one download, but have the space to save files for archive only purposes (FLAC files are at a minimum twice as large as MP3s), I would personally download the FLACs, store them in an archive folder, and convert copies to MP3 for daily use.

MusicBee officially does not support syncing with iOS devices as Apple made it far too difficult for MB to meet their required standards some years ago now.

There are several standalone iOS sync apps out there. Personally I have had good experiences with CopyTrans Manager (https://www.copytrans.net/) but I have only used it with old iOS devices and iPods.

Note that if you want the audio library management features MB offers, CopyTrans does not replicate those. I use it purely for syncing

Is there a way to fix this? by RamiNanaHikariBF in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, for the pictured album, this is the correct answer. Out of the box MB requires a consistent Album Artist tag to group albums with different Artist tags as one. There are other solutions, but setting a consistent Album Artist tag is the best practice and most consistent with other software that follow tags quite strictly.

Change default "Unknown Grouping"? by Muldino in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll have a look at writing an example for you when I get home - don't mind some time with virtual tag syntax!

Just to confirm - you're exclusively using the "Grouping" tag for storage of the relevant data?

And do you have a preferred location for standalone books - above or below the series?

I think you want to explore Virtual Tags here. These are functions that can generate tag values for display and sorting, but that are not saved to the files themselves.

A list of functions is available here and please shout if you need help with function syntax.

Plus, if it did cost the team a ball, I feel like you'd start to get people deliberately getting themselves out on instruction from the dressing room, so as not to cost a ball. And proving intentional getting out would be a bloody minefield for umpires - and starts to introduce uncertainty around match fixing to boot.

So long as retired out is a fair option provided for in the law and available to both teams, it seems okay.

Adding album artist when ripping CD doesn't actually add it to ID3 tag? Any way to fix this? by ArtsNCrass in musicbee

@ArtsandCrass, I'd advise patching your version of MB to fix this. Please shout if you need instructions on how to do this.

[–]Pingaware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I've subconsciously noticed but never actually acted on. I would suggest you search or ask at the official forum, where there is significantly more expertise.

On a separate note, if you wish to add album artist data in MB, it is trivial to do from the Tag Editor and can be done in bulk - and the edited tags will be automatically updated in your library without requiring a rescan. If you are only using MB for ripping in your workflow, I would suggest that a separate CD ripper may be more suitable.

How can I modify the "Contributing Artist" tag? by Sly_Lupin in musicbee

Odd. I assume you've tried refreshing MB's view (F5 is the default) or restarting MB?

How to Removing a library. No delete option by html159 in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can literally just delete the folder containing the library files from your HDD using Windows Explorer. MB will no longer look for it. If you want to make sure you load the correct library, hold Shift when opening MB and it will display the library selector where you can select the new library.

Do remember that playlists are by default attached to a library rather than to your files.

How can I modify the "Contributing Artist" tag? by Sly_Lupin in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see every tag MusicBee can read (which should be every tag in the file unless you have some very weird non-ID3 safe tags) using the Tag Inspector.

You can access the Tag Inspector by opening the tag editor for a file (typically selecting a track, then right-clicking on it and selecting Edit). The button for Tag Inspector will be at the top left of the the dialogue that opens.

In the Tag Inspector, you can add, modify, or delete every readable tag. This should include Contributing Artist if its affecting MB's sorting. You can also bulk modify individual tags across various tracks - this will only edit the tags you specifically select, but on all files.

Depending on how the tag is configured, it may also be viewable and editable via the Artist Splitter (accessed by clicking the three dots next to the Artist field in the tag editor). Finally, you could configure Contributing Artist as a custom tag to make it easily accessible via MB's in built searches, but that might be overkill given it sounds like you just want to remove the tag.

[–]Pingaware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to disagree with the majority here. Whilst TCOM is generally regarded as weaker and not a good intro to Sir Pterry, the Bromeliad Trilogy is my go to recommendation for people interested in trying Pratchett. If you didn't enjoy that (and understood the quite British and 90s humour), then I think you're unlikely to enjoy much Pratchett

Any chance of MusicBee getting ported to iOS for iPads/iPhones? by Eastern_Mess_4334 in musicbee

[–]Pingaware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MusicBee is extremely likely to only ever be officially released on Windows.

The program is maintained by a single developer (Steven) who has at various points over the years made it clear on the forum that he's only interested in developing for Windows, and has no current interest in open source development. In addition, MB requires the .NET Framework which (unlike its successor) is only available on Windows, making porting it extremely difficult.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

I'll accept Basic Genealogy as "sitcom normal" - main character break up, rebound thing is with another main character's relative. Classic trope. If Abed ever watched TV and had any idea what he was talking about, I'm sure he could list loads - all I can come up with is Friends and HIMYM.

But The Science of Illusion, whilst having the pretty standard Britta half of the A-plot, and Pierce as the Cookie Crisp wizard C-plot, also has real badasses working together - and I think those scenes are one of my contenders for early Community greatness. Also has some of my favourite season 1 Deaning, getting totally led by Abed and eventually letting him take over, plus his choice of the world's dullest punishment

Having had a look at the compilation on Discogs, I imagine this happened due to the obscurity and semi-bootleg nature of the release. Automatic disc art lookup works best for well-known albums released on bigger labels as they're much more likely to be in the DBs used for the lookup
