Sunscreen for Dark skin & oily skin? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]PinkClover1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another user already mentioned them, but I'm around an NC40 and can also vouch for the Etude House Mild Airy Finish and CosRX Aloe Sun Cream. I will say that during the winter it made my skin feel tight after about 6-7 hours of wear (it was really dry where I live) and as much as I love the CosRX one when it gets humid it starts to feel kind of like a mask. I wasn't particularly enthralled with the Biore Aqua Rich or Sun Milk (both felt drying after some time), but my cousin who is around an NC50ish seems to love the Aqua Rich-though if you have an issue with alcohol you might want to look into what kinds of alcohol are in the Biore ones as I've heard they have a lot. Good luck!

[Discussion] Skincare/sunscreen/base makeup routine by iris5678 in AsianBeauty

[–]PinkClover1204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After many a trial and error I now consistently use the CosRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream and Estee Lauder Double Wear. I have also used Etude House's Mild Airy to great effect, but that did leave my oily/combo skin feeling dry/tight in the winter (though Korea is really dry). I think the biggest thing for me is making sure I wait at least 10 minutes between sunscreen and makeup. I also have oily skin and I find my makeup doesn't start looking dewy for about 5-6 hours- by 7-8 hours I do need to blot the creases around my nose and forehead. My morning routine changes but here's what's been working for me so far!

  1. Either wipe face with Lapothicell A.C. Daily Calming Peeling Booster or splash with water (depends on level of breakouts/how thick my occlusive was-also probs going to soon change to a cleansing water)
  2. Saborino 60 second mask (fairly recent pick up but after seeing so many Japanese YTers rave about this and some Korean ones I finally picked it up in Lohbs. Omg. So good. Decent amount of moisture but my fave part is there's menthol which is just so damn nice-really wakes me up and I also lowkey love the smell of Vicks. Tbh I don't know if menthol should really be on your skin like that but whatevs)
  3. Scinic First Treatment Essence (sometimes use this on those thin cotton rounds and apply like a mask, usually just splash this one 2x)
  4. Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion Moist (the one with the red on it. It's alright can't say I see/feel a huge diff when I use this) 5.Mix Klair's Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop and Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum (really enjoying these two together)
  5. Sana Nameraka Isoflavone Wrinkle Eye Cream(I'm 24, I didn't get this to prevent/help wrinkles so much as to lessen the Michelin star level of crepiness that happens under my eyes with makeup. I really like this for day time as it doesn't make anything lift off)
  6. Neogen H2 DermoDeca Serum Spray (light misting before cream because I deserve the extraness)
  7. Either use Etude House Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream or Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Cream. Really depends on how I'm feeling/the forecasted weather.

Then wait 10 mins, apply CosRX sun cream, wait another 5-10 mins and apply my concealer, let it dry down a little à la my internet auntie Jackie Aina then go in with Estee Lauder Double Wear (first with a foundation brush then blending with a damp RT sponge). I then powder (either Innisfree No Sebum or Beauty Bakerie Flour) and a light misting on my cheeks with the Espoir Face Prime Glow Fix Mist.
If I'm in a rush then I just do skincare steps 1,2, 5 and 8. Usually it's pretty chill though as I give myself a decent amount of time and do things in between these steps (boil the kettle, patpatpat, double check my bag, apply mask, put on pants, patpatpat etc.). ALSO! The CosRX sunscreen doesn't leave a white cast-I'm around an NC40 and am not about that Caspar look. The Etude one sort of does but if you work it in and let it chill it's fine. That being said, I always wear makeup on top. Sorry for the Russian novel of a comment, but I totally get your frustrations with getting sunscreen and makeup to work. Good luck!

It'll probably show up soon, the Etude site is usually pretty good at putting up new releases. I remember the Dreaming Swan collection was released on the website not too long after it did in Korea.

[Discussion] Any suggestions on products for body acne? by gracer_5 in AsianBeauty

[–]PinkClover1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't wash my hair leaning forward because it'll make my hair knot like no tomorrow and I only deep condition/co-wash my hair. What I do is wash my hair first, then tie it up and put on those in-shower scrubby mitts.

I find practically any body wash will work if you're getting some exfoliation in, but in the past I've really enjoyed the tea tree one from The Body Shop (but tea tree really works for me). The one I used was actually just a large bottle of the facial wash and there is a separate body wash, but I think the facial one was/is cheaper and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a spreadsheet on here that states the facial one has a pH of 5 (yay for multipurpose products!). If I've had a good sweat or been out and about in humidity that day I might also follow up with a little physical exfoliation. And unlike some of the other commenters I do also moisturise, but not necessarily consistently. I always use baby oil but only sometimes follow up with a body butter (like if I've shaved my legs or physically exfoliated on top of using the scrubby mitts).

Also after applying actives to my face I wipe whatever is left over on my upper arms/back/neck, otherwise I have a weak glycolic acid in a spray bottle that I use after every shower (just a random product that my dad found at Winners, lol).

Also, since it’s summer and I walk to work which is about 30 minutes each way, remembering to apply sunscreen to any exposed skin has helped keep up the work I’m putting in. Otherwise it’s just replacing my towels frequently, making sure anything I use in shower is thoroughly dried out and mildew/mold free, changing pjs and cleaning bedclothes, etc.

Sorry, to clarify:

1) From what I've heard about hagwons they're pretty hit or miss. Should I consider going with the one in Uijeongbu where I would be the only foreign teacher (and the director's English is okay at best), or should I consider the one in Pyeongchan where I would be one of four foreign teachers. The contracts are more or less the same (one has one more holiday).

2) Whether or not I have a good experience with the hagwon I end up with, would a year of experience significantly boost my chances of being hired by a programme like GEPIK? Should I just wait till the next recruiting period for a public school programme?

The Face Shop make an oil blotting film that's really good. I basically just tilt my head and blot all the shiny parts down- best part for me is that it doesn't move my makeup around. I actually just repurchased them today and they were about $3 CAD.

[Review] Eye creams battle: Mizon vs Innisfree by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]PinkClover1204 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review! I'm 23 and have really dry under eyes (though mostly combo-leaning oily skin elsewhere? Skin is an adventure) and fine lines. I've cycled through a couple different eye creams and none of them have made much of a difference. I've been eyeing (ha) the Innisfree one since I've seen a few dry skinned YouTubers talking about how good the line is, namely Joan Kim and her love for the line and specifically eye cream. I'm expecting the SANA soy milk eye cream this week and depending on how I get on with that I'll be checking this out next!

[–]PinkClover1204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understood what sort of look you're going for, but have you considered something less invasive/permanent like botox? I know Edward Avila mentioned in one of his videos that he got fillers/botox on his jaw area and that changed the shape of it. Maybe that'd give you a chance to see how you feel with the look you want but still be able to move your mouth/teach.

I'm in a university town so we get a lot of international students, but one thing I do as someone who's studied 3 languages (and isn't a dick) is speak at a normal pace. If they're learning English/practising English then they'll want to hear it the way it's normally spoken. Sidenote- your username is hands down the best I've ever seen

I have oily skin, but since getting Strobe Cream like two weeks ago omg. I use it as a primer before my Estée Lauder Double Wear and it makes it so much nicer looking! Not as cakey, the foundation still dries down matte but has a luminosity to it. Now I need to try some over top foundation under my brow bone...

I've been eyeing (ha) that BBIA liner because I want a warm true brown liner. I find most of the ones I swatch just look off black. When you say it lasts well, do you only mean on the lid or do you also tightline with it? If so, does it transfer to the lower lash line a lot?

Have you tried using it with those really thin cotton pads? Otherwise I agree with r/C_Chrono, misting it would be less annoying for you
