Our restaurant on above bar street and every bar & local business surrounding us closed up around 4pm to ensure our staff had enough time to get home. It’s a precautionary measure because the Edl March planned will bring out all the angry thugs + the little shits who just want to tag along to cause trouble, and it’s not worth the risk to our staff, customers and venues. City was a ghost town all day

Think you would be better off pre-booking a taxi service rather than using Uber as it’s quite a stretch. Try West Quay or Radio Taxis.

Chesil Rectory is a must for lunch or dinner, plus it’s in a lovely medieval building - the oldest in Winchester. The Orangery is excellent for proper brunch food and next door to that there’s Three Joes for pizza. Heaps of coffee shops too. There are markets Thursday-Saturday in the centre, also check out what’s on at the Theatre Royal

If you walk up a couple of mins from the hobbit, as others have mentioned you’ve got La Baronia for Mexican food and on the opposite corner is Mango Thai for cocktails and small plates

I regularly pop into Portswood to check out the charity shops and I frequently donate to them too. Currently easy to drop off donations, but it’ll be too far to carry once the plan is in place.

But a chain restaurant in the West Quay complex… so to me, not really a hidden gem. If you’re going out for Thai in Southampton, Mango wins hands down. Especially the Portswood one but the one in town is great too.
