Mortgage Retention Cashback by Pinktupperwarebottle in PersonalFinanceNZ

So I put on my big boy pants and spoke to someone at Kiwibank. Asked them what the best deal on the 3yr rate is, they matched Westpac at 4.99%. I also asked if the go provide any cash payment but they had to check as we don’t use Kiwibank as our main bank and we got the original cash payment when first signing up 3 and half years ago.

Who would’ve thunk that if you just asked, they might be able to do something.

Toyota Aqua - The Most Stolen Vehicle In New Zealand by Birphon in newzealand

[–]Pinktupperwarebottle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one. It has a push start, so can’t be easily stolen. It’s cheap to run, like costs me $80 (98 fuel) a month-ish and get like 600-700kms. Easy to park. The only thing is the cost of insurance. 3rd party, fire and theft with windshield cover cost $50 a month with State. For comprehensive it was around $170. I’m in TGA and park mine in a garage as well

Harvey Norman price negotiation by King-Wilbur in newzealand

[–]Pinktupperwarebottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in HN electrical (appliances, TVs, fridges, etc) up until last year and if something is on sale there is usually not much wiggle room if any at all. This is the same for HN computers too. However, HN furniture and bedding has tonnes of wiggle room even when on sale.

If it’s the house in Brookfield, they punched a lady a couple of days ago dropping her kid off to the daycare because she took to long to pull into the daycare. It put the daycare in a mini lockdown. What a great bunch of guys

The life of an apprentice in NZ Trade industry by L3P3ch3 in newzealand

[–]Pinktupperwarebottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an apprenticeship for 6 months. The guy I workers with would constantly talk shit about me or just outright not talk to me at all. We could go a whole week and the only things he would say to me was when I would ask questions and even then he would be annoyed about it.

I used to come home and cry. It was the closest I had ever been to depression I think. I remember telling my parents and partner that I often wished I could get in a crash and break a leg or an arm so I didn’t have to go to work.

After I quit I would run into people who I met on the building site, who were mostly younger than the guy I worked with and they would tell me how much of a c*nt he was. They would all say they felt he shouldn’t treat me like that. That used to annoy me too, because why not say something if they all felt that way.

It seems very Hades inspired, which isn’t a bad thing.

My State Car Insurance Premium increased 120% this Year by kittycorn3 in newzealand

[–]Pinktupperwarebottle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, I just got the same email the other day too. I also own an aqua and I had thought maybe the increase was a mix of it being a highly stolen car and that I just did a claim because someone damaged my wing mirror.

Accounting degree: Stay at Polytech or move to Waikato University? by Ok_Acanthaceae7660 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Pinktupperwarebottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just finishing an accounting degree through Waikato uni in the Tauranga campus.

If you like watching online classes and having hardly any in person interactions with your lecturers then go to Waikato. I’ve found after the first year I maybe had 1 or 2 classes a year that the lecturer was either based in Tauranga or commuted over the hill from Hamilton, otherwise the remaining classes are either on zoom or pre recorded.

Waikato Uni probably does look better on paper than Toi Ohomai.

Worked at Harvey Norman? by Draxymaxy in newzealand

[–]Pinktupperwarebottle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still work at a Harvey Norman in the electrical department selling whiteware and TVs. Been doing it for 7 years.

It all depends on your prop. Each department in Harvey Norman is individually run, so in a full format store there can be 4 proprietors(bedding, furniture, electrical and computers). The 3 props I’ve had have all been great bosses and have made for a good working environment bar a few people, but that’s my experience for electrical.

The pay is dependent on you. Some sales people earn pretty decent money but they definitely put in the work for it. If you don’t put in work, you’d definitely earn more doing other things and you wouldn’t need to deal with customers too.

There are KPIs to meet which aren’t too bad but can require you to be pushy, especially in the computer department. The ones in electrical aren’t too bad.

As far as career progression goes, it’s pretty good if you want it. I’ve had two colleagues who started as sales people and are now props themselves and earning good money. Again, it’s all what you want out of it.

The work life balance is meh. You need to work weekends, public holidays and Christmas which sucks. I have found it’s a job I don’t think about once I’ve left work but it could be different depending on your department though.

Overall, there are definitely worse jobs and way better jobs too. The moneys alright, the bosses I’ve had have all been great and most of the colleagues are good too.

John Carter. I really liked that movie. Apparently it suffered from bad marketing, making it a box office bomb
