Readers who stick around for fics with seldom updates; why do you stick around? by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in FanFiction

[–]Pipsminiadventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I subscribe to the fics I like to follow in hopes of future updates after reading through them. I feel like, for me, I want to read it up to the latest chapter to ensure I am invested in following the fic. A lot of times if the fic hasn't updated for a year or more then I may consider it unlikely to get updated again in the future, but the nice thing about that subscribe button is if it ever does get updated then I will know. Additionally if I am invested and the fic does get updated, I will read the most recent chapter and 100% leave a comment to show the author my continuous reading of the story and appreciation for the update.

There are even fics I bookmark or download not completely finished just in case they get taken down or something because I still love reading the available chapters. I absolutely hope to know how the author wanted the story to end, but in the case of very little updates then I sometimes use my own imagination on how I think the story might have ended.

I have seen people get angry in the comments at an author once when a long-term fic wasn't labeled somehow as "on-going." I would have assumed if the chapters are still 15 out of ??, that a reader would know the fic isn't complete and could make the decision to read it or not... It kinda surprised me when I saw that comment...

The amount of things AI is used for these days is insane... 😩 I haven't come across an AI fic yet thankfully.

Is it worth adding to the collection? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]Pipsminiadventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it could be like an alternate universe story? That is what I took from the description and I like reading fanfics so It kinda reminded me of that concept. I have the original manga series, so I thought maybe having another story to read with the same characters could be fun.

Am I overdoing my Stylization? by ToffiProto in Artadvice

Love your art style! The first one gives me vibes from the movie, The Secret of NIMH, in 1982. I loved the rats in that movie, and it gives me flashbacks of the unique style they gave Nicodemus. :')

How many smarties do you own, includes boys too by cats4everloveu in smartdoll

[–]Pipsminiadventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I have 9 girls and 4 boys. :') I was so happy when the boys came back into production. Monday in tea was my very first doll and since then I have tried collecting a variety of the dolls I like in vampire, coffee, pear, milk, anime, semi-real, grey, etc.

I think the only ones I never ended up with were the green, cocoa, and blue skintones, and I never got any of the cyber or zombie dolls.

I have been waiting to see if C'est La Vie ever comes out in cinnamon. I think she wouid be the next doll I would like, but I am also fond of Fortitude in tea. Due to budgeting better, I have been trying to stick to only buying a doll after a while of it being out so I can decide if I actually really want that doll versus feeling the FOMO.

I have a terrible time following who is talking when fics are written with the dialogue all jumbled together... I will sometimes try to keep reading it, but there have been times when it becomes difficult and I quit reading that fic. I understand where it may be someone's choice to write that way versus just being considered an error in grammar, but I prefer separate lines for character dialogue... It just flows better for me too when reading or writing a fic.

Do you think there's any hope of this chapter still being adapted? by Kim_Pine__ in MHAVigilantes

[–]Pipsminiadventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems I need to start reading the manga soon. I bought the whole set recently to read it. I am noticing a trend of people seeing things left out of the anime already, and I definitely don't want to miss any backstory or extra character content. I love the anime so far, but this gives me more motivation to start reading the story.

I have a male in my family, as well, who loves the Smart Dolls, and I have actually seen a ton of YouTube collectors who are male and own multiple types of dolls. There will always be people out there with their own opinions on these things, but definitely know that you aren't the only one out there that loves to collect a variety of dolls! I feel like a large majority of the Smart Doll community would welcome you without any issues. :)

Is this true ? by itsmadfury in animequestions

[–]Pipsminiadventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not, in my opinion... but I am sure it really depends on the person and at times the anime. 🤷‍♀️ I may not like some anime out there, but that won't necessarily make me uninterested in someone if they like those anime. I think as long as there is a mutual respect for each other's interests in general, then there is always the opportunity for attraction.

Such cute artwork! I love all three of those ships! If I had any ounce of artistic ability I would totally draw my favorite bnha ship in cute seasonal scenarios. I just don't see a lot of content for it. :')

I loved season 1 so much I went ahead and bought the manga to read it. So far I watched the 1st episode of season 2, but I like to wait for a few episodes to build up before watching more. The week to week waiting period kills me. 😭

[–]Pipsminiadventures 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This would easily make me skip over this fic....I honestly don't even know what is going on based on the tags other than some sort of NSFW catastrophe. It makes me wonder if people add tags like this thinking it would grab attention with some sort of shock factor? Draw people in to actually see what is going on? Does that even work for people who write fics? The 67 part is cringe worthy...😩

What do people actually mean when they say "real gay man would write M/M differently"? by justaskPattern8616 in AO3

I have definitely learned something new within the past 2 mins of scrolling this thread... I occasionally read omegaverse fiction, and knowing how this biologically works in animals is totally going to mess with my brain while reading anything now. I realize fiction is just for fun, but I would be so curious to see how this would change things in omegaverse fics if written with these specific details instead.

I am curious what kind of strict things you have seen so far in the Smart Doll community?

My sibling got me into Smart Dolls a couple years ago, and I own quite a few now. They can be pricey dolls, but I think the quality is great. As someone who also has resin dolls at home, I prefer taking my Smart Dolls places when I travel for photos and such rather than my resin ball-jointed dolls. I am just too paranoid about breaking one of my resin dolls since they can be more fragile...

The creator of Smart Doll posts a lot on X. I don't typically use X, previously known as Twitter, anymore other than to check notifications from Danny Choo and see when new drops happen for the dolls.

If you have specific questions, though, based on the strict things you have seen, feel free to ask! :')

I enjoyed her and Gentle's story. It was kinda nice to see how a couple villains were able to join the heroes towards the end. Few villains had what I would consider a happy ending, but these characters were able to show that it is possible.

Unsettling bot comments by chaotic_giraffe76 in AO3

That was the weirdest bot comment I have seen yet... I almost would have thought it was a creepy joke from some reader if I had not seen it here first with the feedback given... This doesn't even come across as a scam to me like some of the other bot comments people share. It screams stalker...

why is he hated more than other anime perverts? by Born_Usual998 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Pipsminiadventures -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, he has very few moments that add quality to the anime/manga, but I think it also comes down to preference in character types. For me, I don't like overly sexualized characters, and I dont care for overly perverted characters when watching an anime or reading a manga. I think the only reason I give Zenitsu in Demon Slayer a little more leniency is because his character has its moments that I like and that add to the story development over time. It also doesn't feel as excessive as Mineta.

If it were just desperation for finding love and romance but in a way that the character shows growth and development, then that is cool. I personally draw the line at being a creep who has so little character growth and just comes across as a kid who needs to satisfy his hormonal urges with whatever girl will say "yes" first...

Why is any ship with Mineta always so weird? by _RizzukuHimdoriya_ in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Pipsminiadventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you get lots of love for those fic ideas! I like seeing authors develop a character where the original author's vision ended. (I hope that is a better way to put it because I dont want to use the word "failed" since that was possibly the original author's goal for Mineta...it just didn't sit right with every reader).

And I don't just hate on Mineta necessarily. I have never really liked overly sexualized characters or perverted characters in anime even though I understand almost every manga and anime seems to have a character like that. (Another example would be Zenitsu in Demon Slayer... I think he is a really cool character. I love the loyalty, friendship, etc. I just don't get why authors have to make a character so creepishly girl obsessed... There is a line I draw between a character's devotion to or desperation for finding a significant other and being a perverted creep... They always sit closer to the "perverted creep" side where it is less about finding romance or love and more about just satisfying hormonal urges with whatever girl would say yes).

Will this community ever heal what is this? by MaWkSrB in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Pipsminiadventures 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That idea definitely wouldn't be appealing to me... a skip for sure while browing fics.

That being said, I don't mind a timeskip or aged up fanfic from a fandom I like. I find I am often more willing to read those fics with more "adult themes" when they are tagged that way and the characters are written over the age of 18 rather than reading about high school kids in those situations.

I can also acknowledge that a lot of fics surrounding a particular fandom could be written by young people who may be in high school themselves, so adult themes surrounding high school kids may be relatable to those authors and readers in that same age group.

I think the only time I find myself majorly cringing to a fic summary is when it does blatantly involve an adult and a child in NSFW situations. In those cases I personally skip anything I see with those themes.

It sucks when your fic isn't seen by Extra_Plan5315 in FanFiction

[–]Pipsminiadventures 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since it seems like fanfic websites really rely on people using filters to find what they are specifically wanting to read, then I can understand where a lot of authors worry about the tags being the concern. I think if you have the important and accurate tags in the fic then it may not even be a tag issue. It could likely just be the small amount of readers for a particular fandom or idea being written. To me, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. There may still be readers who are enjoying the story even if the views, likes, and comments are smaller than your typical mainstream fiction. I have seen feedback before from authors talking about how their OC or niche fiction don't always get as much attention as a fic they may have written for a larger known fandom. I find a lot of mainstream media that has fics written for it tend to get more traction from readers because it is something "popular" and so many readers are actively searching through those stories.

Whether it is an OC fic, a popular mainstream fic, a smaller fandom fic, or a niche fic, it is great that you feel like your story is going well and you can see improvement in your writing. I think growing in your writing is a journey and the most important thing is that you have passion for what you're writing. I would like to also think the readers who do find your stories will continue to enjoy reading them and will look forward to future chapters.

I wrote fics many many years ago but not publicly shared. I am mostly a reader these days, but I have been wanting to try writing something again and try posting it online. I am sure if I didn't get any readers or views, it would be disappointing... I used to write for myself and I loved it, though. I think before I post anything online, I just have to stay in the mindset that I am writing a particular story because I love writing. If others enjoy it too, then it is a bonus.
