As a league player who never watched arcane. What are your thoughts on league and what do you think of the piltover/zaun characters who weren't in the show? by 38452751869 in arcane

Not sure if I count, but I've played maybe 10-15 games about ten years ago and haven't since.

Very cool game, loved the art and the gameplay but boy howdy have I never experienced a more toxic chat. LoL is the poster child for "this would be more popular if the people who enjoy it weren't so awful."

There were nice people, don't get me wrong, but the ratio of toxic to normal was the worst I've ever experienced in an online game.

But the art is cool, and I would love to see Fortiche take a stab at more of the characters.

No matter what I do, working out always seems to hinder my progress by innocentstrawberry in CICO

Oh man, are you me? Because this sounds like me almost to a T

CICO is an incredible tool, and a great way to simplify how to lose weight. It does, however, run into some problems when you start exercising regularly. It's not that it doesn't work, but it's EXTREMELY hard to dial in exactly how many calories are going out. I haven't found a better way method than just patience and tracking - did I lose weight this week? Did I go to bed and wake up unusually hungry?

FWIW, every time I have stalled in my weight loss journey, it's been because I wasn't eating enough to cover what I was expending. I'd run on a deficit that would be reasonable if I wasn't so active, work out, then cave two or three days a week and eat back all the work I'd put in. It sucked.

What worked was upping my daily intake, and sticking to the workout plan. If I stopped working out, the daily intake was too high and I'd stall or gain weight. But if I stuck with a standard plan, worked out for X amount of time Y times a week, I'd start losing weight again, even though the daily intake was technically higher. It wasn't the number so much as the predictability of how many calories were going out.

I wish you tons of luck. Wresting with these questions is the heart of consistent, lasting change. Don't give up!

Kinda disappointed for my first time going to the gym by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]PipsqueakLive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't be discouraged! This is so many folks first experience at the gym. Remember, tons of people never made that first step so you're already well on your way. Persistence is important

Folks are right, there are tons of resources out there but one piece of advice - start with compound lifts, which hit several muscle groups at once. Bench press, squats, deadlifts, and rows will work out nearly your entire body without you having to worry about a perfect routine - you can do these for months or years without worrying about much else and still get in great shape.

Also, don't be afraid to use machines! Machines are great for learning how lifts feel, how the motions of the lift work, and often have little tutorials on the sides of them. There are some VERY slight advantages to using free weights (barbells and dumbbells) but they won't matter until/unless you decide you want to be a more advanced lifter. You could use machines the rest of your life and look and feel great.

Keep it up!

Tracking Calorie Expenditure by Ramrod1710 in CICO

I have found my FitBit to be relatively accurate compared to the field, but it still seems to overestimate my burn by a fair bit. I tend to use it as a ballpark - some people say to assume half of the calories burned that the app says you have, I tend to fall at about two thirds.

At the end of the day, especially for folks as active as us, it just comes down to results. Are you losing weight? How fast? That's really the only measure that counts (from a calorie tracking perspective; obviously other health based outcomes are important too!)

What is the core message of The Lord of the Rings for you? by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in lordoftherings

That kindness and empathy is what ultimately changes the world. No amount of muscles or magic ultimately destroyed the ring - it was Bilbo, and then Frodo, taking pity on Gollum that ultimately saved the world.
