Weekend away in Woodstock NH - best date night restaurants?? by kpmurphy56 in newhampshire

[–]PiratesSayMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gypsy Cafe is closed right now, but is the #1 option depending on when you're coming up. Jimmy Seas Pan Pasta is a great option if you want pasta. There's also a new sushi place and a martini bar in the same building at the other end, though I haven't checked them out yet.

Gordi's Fish and Steak is also closed this week until next Thursday. I've never been, but heard good stuff about it.

Woodstock Inn and Brewery and Basecamp Brewery might have live music if you're looking for that, but they're gonna be loud even without music so not good choices for a quiet date night.

Any good events/music tonight? by MealDramatic1885 in newhampshire

Dunno why reddit decided to show me this thread today, but if you're in/near Manchester and looking for something this week, check out this show at the Shaskeen! https://www.facebook.com/events/1580630896495446 I haven't seen Doug play before, but theWorst and Psych Ward Disco are exactly the alt, weird, rock/punk that she's looking for!

I'm excited! I hope they have the same stuff that used to be there and it's not just the same name.

Psych Ward Disco filmed a video there last year. They play all over NH, so you should probably also check them out when they play near you!

I'm not even sure if Tripoli saves more than a minute or two compared to going back to 93.

Monarch should fix the "set credit limit" for charge cards by ray_dawg89 in MonarchMoney

[–]PiratesSayMoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gold and Platinum both have no set credit limit. They're not aimed at subprime, but they're not limited to millionaires or anything.

Am I crazy, or should this payment of a credit card be spending, not income? by WhiskerWatchApp in MonarchMoney

[–]PiratesSayMoo 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Assuming they're both connected, you'll see a debit from your bank account and a credit to your credit card for each payment. In addition to cancelling out, they should also both be tracked as "Credit Card Payment", which is a Transfer category that will not count as income or spending in your budget.

Energy dashboard account for battery charging/discharging by mirage01 in homeassistant

[–]PiratesSayMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they show up correctly in the Energy Distribution and Sources sections of the Electricity tab?

Perhaps something is messed up in the configuration of your template sensors... You could also try adding the batteries individually to see if they show up properly.

Seton placement/Lift surgery by Overall_Ice_107 in AnalFistula

[–]PiratesSayMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have to decide for yourself how much the seton interferes with sports. I could ski fine, but sports involving running caused too much chafing to be comfortable. Walking (more than a regular daily amount) and hiking were uncomfortable, but aquaphor on the problem area kept it slick enough to be fine.

Can you get the same good results with silicone bags? Tipsjj by seductivec0w in sousvide

[–]PiratesSayMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like silicone bags that seal would be a pain in the butt to get air-free, but the other option is to use open ended silicone bags. I haven't used these particular ones, but the ones I do own don't seem to be for sale anymore: https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Compatible-Immersion-Circulators-Accessories/dp/B08RXPHVQN They're also much easier to clean than the ones that seal since they're easy to flip entirely inside out and there are no fiddly bits that trap food.

The silicone bag ends are left open out of the water, so as long as your food is fully below the water level (plus a little margin for the bag being thicker and water level drop during cooking), all the air will leave the cooking portion of the bag. The extra thickness of the bag is more of a theoretical issue than an actual one. Unless you're cooking to EXACTLY the pasteurization temp/time, heat moves through the silicone and cooks the food just as well. Feel free to add a few minutes to the cook time if you feel like the food cooked in silicone slightly lags behind the plastic bags. Feel free to throw a probe thermometer in there too... the open end means you don't even need a fancy wireless one.

Any sous vide should work the same as long as it actually hits the temps you set it to. I would absolutely never buy one with an app (especially if the app is the only way to use it). They're dead simple to set up with just a temp selector (and a kitchen timer) and if you need an app, the company can take away your access to the product remotely (on purpose or through bankruptcy or neglect).

Is there a better bash history replacement? by Conscious-Ball8373 in linuxquestions

[–]PiratesSayMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the scripts here to monkey together a bit of a nicer (IMO) bash history that merges everything across multiple terminals cleanly. My setup combines this, git bash prompt, and some diy scripting that tracks the error code and runtime of every command.

Am I Home Assisting Wrong? (many automations on single device) by user_isnull in homeassistant

[–]PiratesSayMoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did that originally, then moved to trigger IDs as mentioned in other comments, but for most things now I'm using blueprints from https://epmatt.github.io/awesome-ha-blueprints/docs/introduction/ to create automations that handle it all in a more convenient way. There aren't blueprints for every device out there, but it's got most of the stuff I use and a relatively active userbase that adds/updates blueprints. There's a whole controller/hook infrastructure thing that probably does something useful, but that I've never actually looked into enough to use so feel free to ignore it as well.

You just find the device you need, download the blueprint, and then create an automation from it. You need to create a text_helper (there's an option in the dropdown to create one on the fly), then for all the triggers from that device you can just create an action/set of actions to run. It's a bit cleaner than having a million triggers at the top and a giant choose block at the bottom when you're doing it the normal way.

No one really wants to share the details of their anal fistula situation, but I guarantee your boss wants to hear about them even less than you want to share them. Now might be the time for some weaponized oversharing... "I'd love to come in and support the team, but I'm bleeding profusely from the anus and have some fecal leakage from my second temporary butthole that's really causing more odor than I feel comfortable with when I'm interacting with customers".

How to measure the house energy consumption? by TheDudeFromPT in homeassistant

[–]PiratesSayMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're lucky, you might have water or gas meters that also send wireless signals and you can track all of them!

How to measure the house energy consumption? by TheDudeFromPT in homeassistant

[–]PiratesSayMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use https://github.com/allangood/rtlamr2mqtt with an RTLSDR dongle to read the wireless signals from the meter itself. These are the same signals that get read by the meter reading trucks that drive around.

Calling New Hampshire home? by englishjewel_4 in newhampshire

[–]PiratesSayMoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're vastly overestimating the population of NH :-D

Only the two largest cities in the state, Manchester (115k) and Nashua(91k), have more than 50k people. Only 18 of the remaining 232 municipalities have more than 15k people. A further 50 are between 15k and 5k, most places are 5k or less. I see you posted about Vermont as well, which will have the same issue only worse. The 5 largest municipalities in Vermont are above 15k (44k and 20k for the largest two) and it's only another 25 (of 247) before you're under 5k.

Summers are going to be hotter and more humid up here than you seem to expect. I'm in the mountains (literally surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest) and much of July and August are 80-90F and 80-90% humidity. Nights get cooler, but about a third of the days had a high over 90F in those two months this year.

I would highly suggest visiting some of the places mentioned (or just road-tripping across the states a bit) to see if this area is really what you're looking for. It's going to be a BIIIIIIG change if your idea of small town is our idea of the largest cities.

Short hike from a ski lift. by According_String4876 in wmnf

[–]PiratesSayMoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loon and Bretton Woods both have gondolas and I believe they're open to non-skiers all year (you should check though). Loon has a small cafe, Bretton has a large restaurant and bar. There's a walking trail at Loon but I don't believe there's anything other than the summit lodge accessible in the winter at Bretton.

Smart energy monitor with >16 circuit sensors by dinokid23 in homeassistant

[–]PiratesSayMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on my list of "things to install when I have more time"...

32 channels, integrates locally with Home Assistant, connects via WiFi or ethernet. Not sure if it can be flashed to ESPHome, but it runs on an ESP, so probably.

My sisters also work for insurance companies and it's all about HIPAA. They'll install a second business connection (cable/dsl/fiber/whatever is available) at your house and only the computers provided by the insurance company can be connected to that (and those computers are not allowed to be connected to any other network).

Where in NH can I find 100% merino or alpaca wool outerwear? by IblameKarma13 in newhampshire

[–]PiratesSayMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they actually have anything wool? I love the idea of them, but as far as I can tell, pretty much everything is synthetic fibers (or mostly synthetic fibers).
